Any baseless Peppers speculation?

Submitted by taistreetsmyhero on

Peppers will get drafted in the top 5-15 if he leaves now, but he clearly still has a lot to prove. NFL teams may see his potential and believe they can fix his pass coverage deficiencies, or look at his stats superficially and see someone they can utilize more effectively on offense. But I think his game could still improve from another year at Michigan and this team clearly has more to prove on the field. Does this loss move the pendulum at all?

begrudge the college athlete that left before 'accomplishing' anything.  I got to know some student-athletes at M and gained a different appreciation that still evolves.  We can never know another's position, station, needs, wants, dreams, and we have no right to judge their decisions.  And I've never seen anyone sum it up as eloquently as burtcomma.  Thank you.

All the plusses.

In football outside of QB and kicker the longest careers last usually max 10-12 years. Most less than that. No reason to use up one more year of earning potential by staying in school when you are good enough to get drafted (especially 1st round) after 3 years. Go get paid.

With his family situation I don't think he can afford to pass up early first round NFL money. The risk is too high.

He is a young man and very proud, he very well could come back but I suspect the bowl game will be his last in a Michigan uni.

NFL bound. Would be crazy to turn down top-10/top-15 money. wishi him the best, sorry his last game against OSU had to end on that crap.

that said, i liked how he nailed that fan. what kind of dip shit trash talks a 20-year old after that game?

He will be fine in NFL. M will be fine without him. I think our DC will make sure our D to be great year in and year out. We need more top recruit, that's it.

kinda crazy to think his first (and maybe only pick) came in his last regular season game.

As a side note, I will be a little pissed (admittedly, irrationally) if he throws a pass in the bowl game out of the Pepcat.

I'll admit the refs were bad in this game, but they only missed a couple of calls, and I'm just not going to agree with anybody that the spot was a truly bad call.

But, the NFL has refs that are just as bad if not worse. The officiating in the Monday Night Game in Mexico City was infinitely worse than in this game. The spot in that game was 100% indisputably wrong, and they got it wrong two plays in a row. Officiating in football is universally atrocious.

Thats why nfl is unwatchable now days, these draft "experts" hype up everyone that runs fast or throws 1000yds a game. They dont take into consideration who the opposing team is when these so called "heismen" candidates play. I love Jabrill but he has shown nothing the past few games that matter the most. I dont even know what teams would draft him as?

Jabrill's showed nothing! You should be slapped by a whole pile of horse dung in both eyes. People are idiots and it shows most when they open their mouths! Take him off our team and we don't go 10-2, idiot! Game changer to say the least! If he was your son, you'd encourage him to come back? Yeah right!

Because the NFL is a meat market. And there's TONS of guys lifting heavy stuff year-round, lining up to make even 50K a month or less, or much, much more.

And when they see a guy that can run in the 4.4-5 range. They'll take a chance.

The washout rate of the NFL is unbelieveable, no matter who you are.

That being said, I too have no clue where he could fit exactly.

If he truly weighs 205 lbs, then he'd be woefully undersized for a Su'a Cravens-type position.

Safety is probably the "logical" position for him, but the real problem is that his cover-skills are so unknown at this point in time, spending near zero time there while at Michigan. He just doesn't have enough footage. I mean this in all seriousness, it's not a certainty that he woud pan out.

Would some team take a chance on him? I would think so.

But yeah, I don't really know where he goes. He's a super energetic, hungry player with great size/speed. But that doesn't always translate to the NFL. Because at that level, everyone is lightning quick.

The biggest reason he may leave, might actually be a little more because of the mass exodus of teammates (and maybe the "step-back" in talent we take in 2017/"this was our year to do it, in 2016 we make a run for the NC" feeling), more than the "NFL is calling" theory.

Also, at this level, you can take out a pretty large insurance policy.

I thought even before the season that I wouldn't be surprised to see him come back for next year.

Either way I wish him luck and success!

I'm saying this a huge Peppers fan ... I'm disappointed with how he played late in the season. I understand he wasn't getting the punts and kicks to him like he was early in the season. But, to me, he's got a lot to learn and there is room to improve (perhaps a lot) technique wise and in coverage. I kept waiting for him to take over a big game and make the impact that decided the game, and he didn't. Yes, this game was close to that, but still not. Speilman had 26 tackles versus Michigan, Woodson had INT's, returns, and big plays on offense. Now, as much as it pains me to say it, there's really no reason why he shouldn't learn these things while getting paid in the NFL ... unless he love Michigan and feels he has more to prove and could up his draft stock by having a more defined role after another year learning in Brown's system. I only want what's best for Peppers and his family, and understand why he almost has to make the choice to move on. But, there is so much more potential to tap.
