Any baseless Peppers speculation?

Submitted by taistreetsmyhero on

Peppers will get drafted in the top 5-15 if he leaves now, but he clearly still has a lot to prove. NFL teams may see his potential and believe they can fix his pass coverage deficiencies, or look at his stats superficially and see someone they can utilize more effectively on offense. But I think his game could still improve from another year at Michigan and this team clearly has more to prove on the field. Does this loss move the pendulum at all?

Hopefully Lewis and Butt give Peppers a casual reminder that they turned down the NFL for their senior year. I think he is gone but there is a decent chance he is back. I will be optimistic and say 15%.

I really don't know what position Peppers will play at the next level. I don't believe his value at CB in the NFL is that high. He has coverage deficiencies and a lack of ball hawking ability (only 1 INT in his career). Only way a CB is taken in 1st round is if he is a great cover guy which Peppers is not. I'm not sure if he is a safety either in the NFL as I question his size and speed for the safety position. I feel his best bet is to stay at Michigan and hone his CB skills ie. Improve his pass coverage skills and get more picks to show his ability to produce takeaways. I do not believe he is viewed as a first round talent by the NFL as some believe he is.

Bye bye Breezy, its been real. I'll miss him but look on the bright side, Tyree and/or Hudson might eventually (or now?) be better in coverage so we don't have to move them to LB. We lose the explosive tackling and more with him leaving, but I'm anxious to see the young guys get in there at LB and at safety.

I'd love him back, but it would be a bad decision for him IMO.  He can still improve, especially in his coverage.  But, I'd be really surprised if our team wins more games next year or if we beat OSU.  So, if a major part of his decision to come back is to win or beat OSU I'm afraid it would be a disapointment for him.

I'm so glad he was on our side.  He is an amazing young man and I loved having his skills, confidence, and passion on our side.  Maybe I should leave it at that, but if you can't vent on a message board where can you?  So, I'm gonna go ahead and say it, even though it may not be a popular statement (although if you're honest I'd bet you agree).  I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disapointed by his season.

He had a great year, no doubt and I'm holding him to an awfully high standard, but he was at no point in the same league as Charles Woodson.  Despite the early comparisons, I know he was not the same sort of player because Woodson was a lock down corner and that is not Jabrill's game, but he also did not have the sort of impact on games that Charles did.  Jabrill only had one punt/kickoff return for a TD in his entire career.  He had a few rushing TDs, but none in the losses.  He had one interception off a tipped ball yesterday and he had 4 sacks this year.  All of those are great stats, but I don't think he'd be a Heisman candidate if he wasn't such a heralded recruit.

This unrealistic expectation is unfair to him and this doesn't make me like him any less, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disapointed in his impact on the games where we struggled.  I don't recall him doing a whole lot in Wiscy, Iowa, or OSU.  Going into the year I expected a few more big plays at key times to help us win games.  I never really thought to myself "Jabrill will make a play to bail us out and win the game."  I think his signature moment was the TD against MSU, but he wasn't able to do that sort of thing as much as I had hoped.  He dominated inferior opponents, but had some struggles against some of the better teams.  He is a phenomenal athlete, is fast, is explosive, is positive, smart, and energetic.  He also probably helped us get Rashon Gary.  I'm so happy he is a Wolverine, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect more.  I sometimes feel a bit bad for Jordan Lewis who IMO was a better player and was overshadowed by Jabrill.  It's not fair to expect that much of a kid, but that's how I feel.

his kickoff return that sparked a Michigan drive and helped to flip field position and maintain that advantage through the first half,  protectng our defense and forcing Ohio State to continually start deep in their own territory, then you are miissing his impact. He altered special teams play throughout the game because OSU refused to kick the ball deep to him.

You are right to say that Jabrill  didn't have a Heisman impact on the Ohio game in a way that Woodson did both as a junior and even as a freshman, because he recorded two picks in his freshman game against the Bucks while Biabakabutuka stole the show with his 300-yard rushing effort.

But again we are talking about guys playing way above even the magnitude of The Game in a game that is always remembered by super-human and extraordinarry play. Jabrill never got a chance to establish himself as anything more than a decoy yesterday

Again, he was a great player, who had significant contributions, but never the sort of impact I (and many others) had hoped for.

I'm no coach, so I have no idea how to put a player in a position to have the most impact, although I did have some suggestions (put Jabrill as a WR and RB instead of a QB).  Maybe we didn't block well enough to spring him as a returner, maybe his game wasn't a cover corner to come up with more picks, maybe our offensive line wasn't good enough to give him space to make plays.  I don't know the answer to any of this.

What I do know is he wasn't able to make a big enough impact to win the tough games as Desmond & Charles did, or even Braylon for that matter.  He was good at a lot of different things, but never struck me as the best in the country at anything.  I had hoped he would be more and that made me disapointed.  Great player, no doubt, the kind of player that can't be beat, unfortunately no.

that if Jabril didn't help the team to a B1G championship, he would be considering heavily coming back for his senior year.  Not sure where he is at with his degree, but I think he'll be back again to lead this team to a chamionship next year!  Go BLUE!!

when he left after a less than satisfying end to his promising college career at Michigan, but then the Panthers ttraded up to the second round to draft a guy that most Michigan fans thought wasn't going to do much until he learned how to block and run better routes while improving his hand, eye coordination. Truth is, the kid was right to go. He's still a Michigan man and he went to the Superbowl in his first season. Now, he's counted on as a regular contributor for his team and he's getting better in what would be his rookie season. He's had some big moments and TD's for the Panthers, but he's still far off from what many thought he might be as a freshman and sophomore in Ann Arbor.

I suspect Peppers will have no choice but to leave based on his draft status, especially if it's as as high as some speculate. Guys like him don't come around very often and the NFL can't wait to steal them from their unpaid mortgage pool of college talent. We should just be grateful that Peppers represented our emotional interests and team and will always be a Michigab man and continue to support and enjoy him as he moves ahead in life. He's more than earned our respect and admiration for his exploits, albeit all too brief.

Upon another viewing of the game, this was a pretty disappointing game for peppers. Honestly, for such a dynamic athlete, where are the game changing plays? Slow to react on on a tight end twice, slow to get to the QB, and in OT, could have tackled samuels in the backfield. I think he should come back, getting drafted on 'potential' is what watered down the NBA.
