[ED - Reminder we get money if you use our Amazon link]

Has anyone found any amazing deals? I have been browsing a bit and haven’t found anything I can’t live without. Would like to get a record player but don’t want to spend a fortune. Also, would like a hammock w/stand but haven’t found any great deals on one.

What are you looking for or wanting to get?

Prime Day is starting to remind me of Black Friday; are you really getting some type of huge discount or did they just artificially increase the price for 5-6 months to make you feel like you're getting a deal?

This has been a thing since my dad was a regional sales manager for KMart sporting goods back in the day.  He did the same thing - would browse through a competitors store checking prices.  Then he would match them, sometimes raising a price just to mark it down and call it a 'sale' the next week.  Corporate policy - they all did it.

If they did it back in the 60's and 70's, they still do it today.

If you compare prices on camelcamelcamel.com you will see that some items arent really that discounted. There have been times in the past where a specific item was cheaper.

Prime day is a scam. They jack up prices of stuff you want 30% so they can give you a 25% deal and still make more than the original price.

EDIT: already mentioned above so I’ll just put it out there that Helmet is coming out with a new album in November. Look forward to seeing them on their US tour (Spring 2024?) but ….. IN THE MEANTIME I’ll have to keep listening to  their earlier stuff.

last time I saw them was in Detroit at St Andrew’s with my brother. We ate at the Detroiter since it’s right around the corner. Sit down, get a beer and look over and none other than Paige Hamilton was there with the band and manager eating and having some beers. Chatted with them after the concert as well. Great group of guys

Use CamelCamelCamel.com to check if things are actually a deal, or if they just marked up the price 50% before taking 33% off.

I needed a new tablet (3 year old Kindle Fire HD10 wasn't working very well), mostly for reading books and CBR comics and occasional web surfing. Upgraded to an Ipad for $250 which was only slightly more than the currently top end fire tablet.

If you have trees/poles/something else to tie a hammock to, I would recommend just buying the ENO Atlas hammock straps instead of a stand. Super portable and easy to set up anywhere. I bought my straps almost 10 years ago and they are still in excellent condition.

Was looking for a good bluetooth/partybox speaker.  Nothing that caught my eye out there.  Ended up getting an open box JBL Partybox 1000.

I never buy during big sales. Sounds counterintuitive but I find that it’s easy to buy stuff you don’t really need because of the great deal. I just cleaned out my house of 22 years and it made the case that I bought a ton of stuff over the years that I didn’t need or use nearly enough to justify buying it in the first place. Buy less, pay full price, get a good deal every now and then.

Can definitely relate to this. We recently cleaned out the basement and had a couple yard sales. Whatever didn’t sell got donated. It was sad to see all the stuff we wasted money on go for next to nothing or nothing at all. Told my wife no more unnecessary purchases of random things. Definitely don’t need a hammock but have wanted one for a long time and we are trying to get more use out of our yard while we are stuck at our current home.

It's not a Prime Day deal (Edit - yes it is) but this turntable is a pretty good price as long as you want a black one. I bought the same turntable a few years ago and like it a lot. The bluetooth is great when I just want to listen on headphones but the turntable sounds best through my nice analog receiver and speakers.

I took advantage that other retailers are getting into the Prime Wars--plus July happens to generally be a good time to buy major appliances--to save quite a bit on things I needed to buy anyway: refrigerator, stove, washer, dryer for my new house (it already came with a brand new dishwasher). That component of my move-in budget ended up a couple grand less than I had anticipated, woo-hoo! So I spent some of that money on a 12V car fridge for my camping trips, and I had previously researched prices on models I was interested in so I know that the 'sale' was truly a sale.

If there is something I am wanting off Amazon Ill tend to hold off until Prime day or Black Friday and see if it gets discounted. So far it really isn't working for me as the models I want don't get the ol price decrease.

I bought a new robot vacuum and a pickle ball set. both were already on sale prior to the sale lol

typically the only things worth buying on prime day that are truly heavily discounted are Amazon products like a fire stick or an echo etc

We ordered a 9th gen iPad (still has the home button) for only $250, which is a pretty solid deal. Also, a new Shark vacuum for $150 that was also a good deal compared to some other stores.
