How is Loveland first-team but Stover is tight-end of the year? Makes no sense.
November 29th, 2023 at 12:29 PM ^
Loveland is second-team to the media.
November 29th, 2023 at 12:32 PM ^
Ahh, didn't realize the aggregate the coaches and media for those ones.
November 29th, 2023 at 12:34 PM ^
My aggregate is blocking and receiving, so I'm going Barner!
November 29th, 2023 at 12:39 PM ^
First team to coaches. Stover 2nd team coaches
November 29th, 2023 at 12:31 PM ^
Stover was on the media's first team. Not sure who decides "of the year" awards, maybe a combo of coach and media votes, and Stover had the edge?
November 29th, 2023 at 12:32 PM ^
I just looked it up, it's a combination of media and coaches, but I'm not sure what the formula is.
November 29th, 2023 at 12:28 PM ^
Well-deserved for each and every one of them. And each can play in the NFL
November 29th, 2023 at 12:30 PM ^
It was the signs…the signs I tell ya! They stole the signs!!
November 29th, 2023 at 12:31 PM ^
Barnhart?
Not to be a dick, but he's a much better guard than tackle.
The Zinter injury sucks, but forcing Barnhart to guard and putting Trente at tackle may be a blessing in disguise.
November 29th, 2023 at 1:23 PM ^
Blessing? Nyet! Even if Barnhart is better at guard than he is at tackle, in no world is it a blessing that he replaces an All American due to injury. It's more like an acceptable contingency plan.
November 29th, 2023 at 1:56 PM ^
Barnhart being on this list is in large part a reflection on how poor offensive line play has been in the conference this year.
November 29th, 2023 at 2:18 PM ^
I wouldn't call it a blessing in disguise, but at the same time, it may work out fine for us given:
1. We don't have Barnhart outside now letting fast DE's by.
2. Jones may be able to pass protect better giving JJ more time to throw.
November 29th, 2023 at 12:32 PM ^
So many SKILLZ
November 29th, 2023 at 1:12 PM ^
I was just thinking - does blocking and tackling - or playing together (as a unit - like the OL) - have anything to do with how effective teams are during their season?
November 29th, 2023 at 12:35 PM ^
Just like on the defensive list, I think they threw some buckeyes a cookie for not getting gold pants. Again.
No one is taking Stover over Loveland. No one.
November 29th, 2023 at 12:41 PM ^
How about those transfers... the transfer changes are the biggest change that has helped us compensate for the inability to recruit at the same level as OSU. Bless those changes!
November 29th, 2023 at 3:16 PM ^
Transfers are one element to compete against OSU recruiting. Player identification and development is another. We are clearly doing good things with physical, mental, and skills development.
November 29th, 2023 at 12:43 PM ^
So what they are essentially saying is that the Michigan players are better than the rest of the Big Ten combined?
I thought we won because we knew some signs.
Clear Petitti didn't have a say.
November 29th, 2023 at 12:44 PM ^
Does anyone know, definitively, who doesn't have eligibility left on this team? The depth chart on MGoBlog is a little murky (for example, Henderson is listed as a JR with a COVID year, but I'm pretty sure he's a SR and out of eligibility bc he played in 2019). Barner was the guy who triggered this question, bc I had no idea he had eligibility left.
Off the top of my head I think the offense only loses Johnson and Henderson to eligibility (obviously lots of NFL departures too).
Defensively, Barrett, Sainristil, and Goode (and Green, who I don't recall seeing play meaningful snaps).
Special Teams, Turner only shows 1 game played in 2019, so that seems unclear (redshirt possibly, plus COVID year?)
November 29th, 2023 at 1:22 PM ^
The best resource is Seth's roster spreadsheet: link
And looks like only Tuttle and Johnson on offense
November 29th, 2023 at 1:41 PM ^
Henderson only played 3 years at ASU he is eligible to return with COVID rule. Nugent has eligibility I am pretty sure. Only Zinter and Keegan and Barnhart should be graduating off the line. CJ at WR is graduating. RW has a year left. BC is graduating and that is it for RB.
November 29th, 2023 at 4:25 PM ^
I've seen that stated in a few places, but this article says he was starting for ASU in 2019 ... https://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/college/asu/2019/09/17/arizona-state-starting-17-year-old-offensive-line-asu-college-football-ladarius-henderson/2354523001/
November 29th, 2023 at 12:55 PM ^
Damn... impressive. Any idea of this kind of thing has happened before? Hard to check, I'm sure, but gotta be pretty unlikely... every starter recognized?
November 29th, 2023 at 12:59 PM ^
This proves it: it was the signs
November 29th, 2023 at 1:03 PM ^
This is impressive as hell
November 29th, 2023 at 1:03 PM ^
I am very happy for all of these individuals! Still, I wish the selections didn't seem to be such a rote "vote for the winners" exercise. Henderson on 1st team was a surprise, Barnhart a surprise. Eichenberg as LB of the year? Balderdash. Fashanu was all hold all the time!
November 29th, 2023 at 1:08 PM ^
So wait...you're telling me that all 11 offensive starters, 15 defensive players, and 2 special teams players make all-conference and most of the conference ADs thought our success was because of a low-level analyst? GTFOH
November 29th, 2023 at 1:08 PM ^
We knew the offense would be good this year but that's impressive as hell.
November 29th, 2023 at 1:14 PM ^
Henderson made 1st team by coaches? Wow. Didn't think the sample size was big enough. And didn't realize he has played that well.
Same with Nugent, didn't realize he played well enough to get 1st team both with coaches and media, especially the hiccups early on.
Where have I been....
November 29th, 2023 at 1:21 PM ^
As someone pointed out - the role of other activities has been raised.
It's extremely apparent to me - after watching Michigan play the last three conference games - just how substantial any alleged "other activities" might have influenced what took place on the field.
JJ's completion rate of 87.5% and 80.0% against PSU and OSU, respectively - are one obvious stat that illustrates the point.
November 29th, 2023 at 1:24 PM ^
Wolverines! Special team deserves special recognition!
November 29th, 2023 at 1:33 PM ^
It's weird to me that Iowa has 7 guys on the Offense list from both coaches and media:
Coaches: 3 3rd team and 4 HM
Media: 1 3rd team and 5 HM
From a historically bad offense...
November 29th, 2023 at 2:11 PM ^
Plot twist: They are defensive backs but they score more than the offense, so it counts.
November 29th, 2023 at 1:35 PM ^
Media is hosing UM based on Wyin telling his Mom the bully pushed him around again.
November 29th, 2023 at 1:52 PM ^
Woot!
November 29th, 2023 at 5:49 PM ^
Epic recognition for an underrated outstanding team. Well done guys. Go Blue!
