Admit it. If we beat Michigan State on Saturday

the possibility of pulling off a national championship  in both football and basketball will look more real to you.

Even if you beat MSU, you have to beat OSU and then better OSU, Georgia to win a national championship. You can sell me on hockey and basketball but not football this year.

That will take an OSU victory for me to believe.

We could beat MSU by two scores and we'd still be nowhere close to a beating OSU, let alone a National championship.

And I say that not all that confident UM can beat MSU on Saturday. Both teams run the ball well, both play fine defense but only one has any sort of a passing game beyond 5 yards.

So, no, it won't look any more real than it does today and that's "not very real". Let's talk if UM is undefeated going in to OSU.

I'm sitting here nervous as hell about MSU thinking we have about a 40% chance of winning Saturday, and some of you are thinking National Championship.  Then on game day, when the score is close, I remain optimistic while most of the board is melting down.

My only conclusion:  Some of you are bipolar.

If UM beats MSU to go to 8-0, I’ll believe 11-1 is the most likely outcome for the season.  If UM beats OSU, I’ll believe they will win the B1G Championship and anything can happen against UC or Oklahoma if UM gets matched against them for the 1st round of the CFP, but I would expect a win against either team.  I am less optimistic against UGA or Bama, but again, anything could happen.

“If UM beats OSU”…dude…since Lloyd Carr retired we have won 1 game in the Ohio State series to an interim Coach.  Even Carr lost his last 4 games against Ohio State…with some great teams.  We haven’t been able to expect a victory against Ohio State since Cooper was their Coach.  So yeah…”if”.

No it won't. I don't believe in either of the U of M or MSU football teams. I truly believe there is only one measuring stick this year in the BIG and that is OSU. If either team gets blown out Saturday then we will likely know that team is not good. If it is close I don't know if we will know much more than we did going in.

Just my $.02.

A win over MSU and I’m starting to plan the Rose Bowl trip. I don’t like our chances to beat OSU and go to the playoff, but the Rose would be a great consolation.

I audibly laughed at that one. Yes, if we beat MSU our odds of winning a football national title might creep up to 1% and maybe the odds we win both football and basketball national championships creeps up to like 0.01%.

0.01% definitely looking like a real number to me so I'll give you that

No but if we win Saturday I admit I was wrong about harbaugh and I will layoff the fire harbaugh campaign until December 2022 depending on what happens next season

It will look more real than if we lose to them? Yes, since if we lose it's 0. More real than right now? Sure, since probabilistically there's a chance that we lose on Saturday (though I don't think we will). But that's an insipid comment, since you could say it after literally every single game won. I'm no oddsmaker, but even if we win on Saturday I still wouldn't put money on being nat'l champs in either sport (much less both). Going from, say, a 1% probability to a 2% probability doubles your odds, but still doesn't make it likely.

The only thing I'll agree to is that the outcome of this game will have no impact on my feelings that neither of these teams is going to even sniff a conference championship, regardless of how close the final records look.

Good lord.

I love the optimism, but the football team has not beaten anyone currently ranked and the basketball team has yet to play.

This post seems like a parody of a delusional fan.  Especially given the last 20 years or so of Michigan football.

Party on.

Seen this movie too many times.  Strong start, brutal finish, usually 3 losses down the stretch.  I love that the team has given itself another shot this year to try again, that's about it.  Taking it one game at a time, and will not be surprised with an L this Saturday.

I can say this with complete honesty and sincerity:  Beating Sparty means nothing in regards to a Natty.  Winning against those idiots just restores in-state order from the chaos of recent years (not to mention shutting up my annoying brother and uncle).  Until we compete with OSU, it's nothing but a cute little side story for the rest of us "second stringers" in the B1G.

Beat the Buckeyes.  That's is all.  Til then, I don't want to hear d*ck about any championships of any kind, including whose fans have the fewest chromosomes...

I will listen to 97.1 on Monday between 2-6 , if , and only if , we beat sparty. Otherwise , it will be no 97.1 between 2-6 as usual.

If I go out and start running daily and get up to an easy 5 miles, that will make it “more real” that I could win a spot in the next Olympics.  But “more real” is not the same as “real.”  I’d be happy with just beating MSU and going 10-2 or 11-1 without a losing rout in there anywhere.  Beating OSU would be the cherry on the sundae, and I wouldn’t care about the playoffs if we could do that.

If we win Saturday, it sure would be a lot more of a possibility. Lots of Road bumps along the way, but once you get the momentum going, who knows. A win Saturday would position us very well. I have no problem seeing us being 11-0 going into the Ohio State game.

I have a lot of confidence in coach Howard's ability to recruit and coach. I think he is just going to get better as a coach every game.  I think he is ideally situated for the college game. I think he is a person of high integrity, intelligence, and would be great at directing young men in the right direction.

My confidence and Coach Harbaugh is not as high, even though I think he is a person of high integrity and good for young men and giving directions. I just wonder about his coaching ability, his x and o's at times.  But I think a lot of his younger coaching staff is doing very well and might be the answer for him. Throw in a couple of really good recruiting classes and this team could really take off

I'll admit it, not even the slappiest of the Cow slappies on RCMB would post something like this, though our team and their team have the same football and basketball records right now.  Must be a Michigan thing.

How about the possibility of making the "final four" in both will become more real. I'm still not convinced that anyone in the Big10 can beat the SEC teams this year.

only if you're willing to admit the reverse is true? If we happen to lose, will the sky be falling and the season is basically over? in case my point is hidden in the sarcasm, i just want to win the game... No i won't start thinking about winning a football championship even remotely b/c of this week's game. Much less a basketball championship as well. The two aren't mutually exclusive in your eyes?
