Fitzgerald isn't going to make the same mistake Harbaugh did against Osu. If their Qb is dialed in - the Cats have a chance.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:15 PM ^
Offensively he is going to make the exact same mistake, rock fight is all they know. He might not have a choice though.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:03 PM ^
Go UGA and go OU I guess? Seems like those two winning are the surest ways to lock OSU out. No way they'd give a 4 seed to OSU over a 1-loss Bama
November 27th, 2018 at 8:49 PM ^
I have an issue with OSU getting in given that they have a 29 point loss to a bad team.
November 27th, 2018 at 10:16 PM ^
I have an issue with a team losing a conf championship game and still making playoffs while at least two other teams would have the same records and more impressive wins.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:05 PM ^
Given the UM losses to ND and OSU and all of the other games played this year, who thinks ND beats OSU on a neutral field?
I cannot see ND scoring enough on OSU, and the OSU speed would be as problematic for ND as for UM.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:13 PM ^
ND is better than us, and their coach seems to be willing to change things up to exploit an opponent.
OSU is easy to score on, which is why everyone is pissed that we didn’t hang with them. ND would do much better than we did.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:16 PM ^
About 1000% positive we’ll end up in the Peach bowl vs Florida. SIGH.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:22 PM ^
About 1000% you are wrong. Most likely Fiesta. But if Peach it will be LSU. A third matchup in 4 years isn’t what a bowl wants.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:31 PM ^
I was thinking that but BPONE
November 27th, 2018 at 9:06 PM ^
Fuck that. I do not want to play Florida again. But since we're in BPONE I am sure it's gonna happen.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:17 PM ^
Also, whatever bowl we're in I hope we wear our home unis. I've had enough with the ugly white away unis. I mean seriously, its terrible
November 27th, 2018 at 10:23 PM ^
The all white unis bring on immediate BPONE.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:19 PM ^
Why? So we can get crushed in the playoffs? I'd rather end the season with a win in the Rose or the Fiesta.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:44 PM ^
Hell yeah so we can get crushed in the playoffs. I can just imagine the amount of butthurt we'd cause by getting in this way. We can be the trolls of CFB for once.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:36 PM ^
Need Oklahoma crushed. Osu crushed. Georgia crushed. And ucf just to lose.
not playoff hopes but to play LSU or Washington. And for a top 5 finish.
an 11 win top 5 finish would be best since ...
November 27th, 2018 at 8:40 PM ^
I’ll be honest, I want OSU in the playoffs vs Bama.
That gives the Rose Bowl on Jan 1 as opposed to being the prelude to the playoff game at 1 on Dec 29th in the Peach.
If we can get back to the granddaddy vs Washington, I can actually sit and enjoy the game and not think too much about the OSU game. A win and I would say this season was a moderate success
November 27th, 2018 at 8:53 PM ^
UM will be in the Fiesta. They aren’t taking a 3 loss LSU team over UM.
November 27th, 2018 at 10:22 PM ^
One question, could we get Steve Emtman and Billy Joe Hobert on the field for a few snaps? I’m still pissed about that game.
November 27th, 2018 at 11:27 PM ^
I.Don’t.Understand.This.Fanbase. Why would we want our biggest rival to make the playoff and we don’t? Anyone on here who doesn’t want chaos to happen & we get the #4 is stupid. As Herm Edwards said,YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME! Can’t win it if you don’t make it. Maybe just maybe we make adjustments and shock the world?
November 27th, 2018 at 8:42 PM ^
OSU and Oklahoma aren't going to lose. But if they did, I could see the committee putting Georgia in before they put Michigan in. If Georgia also got blown out, I still think it would come down to OSU vs. Oklahoma. If all 3 got completely utterly blown out (0% chance of happening), Michigan might have a shot.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:42 PM ^
One more shot at this 8 game playoff idea by replacing conference title games with the following play-in round to qualify for the CFP final four:
- #1 Alabama vs. #8 UCF @ Georgia Dome
- #2 Clemson vs. #7 Michigan @ Superdome
- #3 Notre Dame vs. #6 Ohio State @ Lucas Oil
- #4 Georgia vs. #5 Oklahoma @ AT&T Stadium
Come on, wouldn't that be a kick-ass slate of games versus these crapy conference title games? I love college football and would prefer true competition to qualify into the CFP final four. Sign me up as this 4 team selection process is so f-ing preordained it sucks.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:13 PM ^
8-team playoff needs to happen, like, yesterday. It would be a huge improvement and win for CFB. And Michigan would've likely been in it this season. I'd take Clemson in round 1.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:13 PM ^
would be even better if they scrapped the stupid bowl tie ins and played the 1st round or two on campus of the higher ranked team.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:17 PM ^
True playoffs should be at neutral fields. Dome stadiums ensure no games are disadvantaged by the elements.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:21 PM ^
Why??? You would rather watch a game in a giant dome or NFL ad filled stadium than see the teams play on campus? You are the first person I have ever heard say that.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:37 PM ^
Sorry, but that is such a high school mentality. The college playoffs need to get more competitive and home field advantage is for the lesser league. Need to get the profile of the playoffs to a way higher level.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:48 PM ^
Lesser league like the NFL?
November 27th, 2018 at 9:38 PM ^
Some other people have mentioned that idea on this blog. Though why would the SEC and the other warm weather Power 5 Conferences agree to that kind of playoff system?
They wouldn't care for the idea of sending one of their teams somewhere to possibly play in the snow.
People apparently forget or don't know that the Power 5 Conferences get together and agree on a certain playoff system.
November 28th, 2018 at 9:43 AM ^
This is what would preserve the awesomeness of the regular season if the playoff were to be expanded to 8 teams.
Now the incentive would be to finish in the top 4 for home field advantage.
If an SEC team doesn’t want to head north in December to play a game, then finish in the top 4.
Just think how exciting some of these late season games would be if home field was on the line.
November 27th, 2018 at 10:14 PM ^
That looks phenomenal. Let’s ditch these conference divisions while we’re at it. Totally stupid and arbitrary. NorthWestern gets to play for a conference championship? Let’s make the regular season count again as it relates to conference championships.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:46 PM ^
This staff can't hang with the coaches in the Cfp right now. Sad to say - we would get embarrassed yet again.
Agree with the poster above on the away uni's.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:18 PM ^
Sorry, not yet ready to be this kind of whimp.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:47 PM ^
Agreed on the 8 team format.
November 27th, 2018 at 8:52 PM ^
I’m sorry but why would you even want to go this year. Bama and Clemson would both score more than the wife beaters did against us. We’re not there yet. Not athletic enough enough.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:19 PM ^
Iron sharpens iron. Need to always strap it on and find out. Football is a tough game and hiding in a corner is not going to bring us any further forward.
November 28th, 2018 at 8:24 AM ^
How’d that work out for State?
November 27th, 2018 at 8:55 PM ^
I hate to say this but they do that to keep a large fan-base intrigued and tuned in for ratings. Money on the table that even if Georgia and OSU lost (possibly even Oklahoma) in their respective championships they would still get in over us.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:04 PM ^
I think we have the athletes to compete. We don't have the strategy/style right now on either side.
With a month to prepare - could add stuff on both sides of ball. But we had all that time for bowl game last year ...& we had a year to prepare for Osu this year. We still run into a stacked box over & over ...& the D has no clue how to play zone.
I like JH btw. Hope he gets a good OC & tells Brown to add some more packages to the D.
November 27th, 2018 at 10:10 PM ^
No doubt. Get more creative on offense and defense. Would be a welcome surprise.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:05 PM ^
After last week, we should have dropped below the top 10.
November 27th, 2018 at 10:07 PM ^
Get some perspective. We would shove UCF’s shit in.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:09 PM ^
The ranking of Michigan this high is not to indicate some level of hope for us to go to the CFP.
It is laying the groundwork for putting OSU in the playoffs over Oklahoma based on destroying the #7 team.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:15 PM ^
Not so sure. Who between 8 and 12 inclusive deserves to be ranked higher than Michigan?
November 27th, 2018 at 9:30 PM ^
Nobody. Who has a 2-loss record with a tougher schedule? Nobody. Our fan base is so negative right now it is pathetic.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:39 PM ^
Agreed. I was down Saturday and Sunday but fuck it, I wore my Michigan jacket with pride every single day since the beatdown. We are a good team who had an inexplicably bad game on Saturday. There are 100+ FBS teams who would rather have Michigan's success than their own.
November 27th, 2018 at 10:05 PM ^
Good man.
November 27th, 2018 at 10:53 PM ^
Preach! This is the most inspirational perspective I've read since Saturday. I'm just now shaking the pit-of-stomach woe as of today. I live and work on ohio and saw mostly humble Buckeyes all mid to late season, until our loss. Then the typical arrogance and ignorance returned. Thanks for this though.
November 27th, 2018 at 11:49 PM ^
Preach, and Bingo!
After our game with them I talked with a friend of a friend, Ohio guy, who told me they were dreading playing us after we blew out PSU, and that they wanted their DC fired.
He is still humble and grateful for the outcome.
November 27th, 2018 at 9:27 PM ^
It certainly leaves the door open to jump OSU over OU. But that would take OSU scoring like 70 on NW to their 7 and then OU struggling to stop Texas again in one of those 51-50 shootouts.
