Red Berenson auctioning off a ton of his old gear
Saw someone share this a few minutes ago. Not sure why Red is doing this but he's auctioning off a ton of his old gear including his old jerseys if there are any collectors out there
The most amusing thing to me was that he's selling his 2nd place trophy from 2011. Can't say I blame him for wanting to be rid of that thing

Sorry on mobile
He owns that trophy? I would think it would belong to U-M.
I want to get my hands on this piece: his leather jockstrap from the ol' days.
Actually I think that's Russell Crowe's from Cinderalla Man that he just auctioned off for $7,000.

texted me "OMG they have a freaking Blockbuster!"
Is it really the last one? The website lists 9 remaining nationwide, which I thought was the correct total. But the website may be out of date?
This seems strange. Some people are unsentimental, but... He's got kids and grandkids, and he's selling off his rings? How much money did he make in a long career at Michigan?
Agreed. Red made a fine living for himself -- I think around $200K per year in the end -- but it wasn't like he was pulling in millions. If he wants to sell it, that's his choice.
My assumption is that this isn't about getting money; I think he is "downsizing" in advance of a move to a home that's a more appropriate size for a retired couple. I'm sure he asked the kids about what they wanted him to keep and what they wanted him to sell.
Note that he isn't selling much of anything from his best teams at Michigan.
This was my initial take. Also thought about the charity angle - since nowhere does it say where the proceeds will go (that I was able to find, anyway). It's unfortunate that most (some) jump to the immediate conclusion that the man is broke.
Worth noting: WOTS reputes that Red has a frugal nature. Jim Hunt once said "He still has the first nickel he ever owned."
So I doubt he's struggling for money, but he's probably not inclined to hang on to things he doesn't need to keep around, either.
Yes. You should follow the link and see for yourself...
