Grant Perry's size and speed don't blow you away, but still best receiver on the team at this point, the guy is realiable, you throw in his direction and he holds on to it most of the time, goood hands.

Van Sumeren plays in the TVC East which is not a Top 10 conference in state. BVS's tape consists of him playing mostly guys who will not sniff P5 football.

89 catches and 25 TDs, might be the Grant Perry replacement. Sure he looks skinny but clearly has talent on his tape. Let him red shirt and see what you have in a year.

on a different sport. As a PG, he should have plenty of quickness. Now he can bulk up and train more for football.

According to Max Prep, kid had over 2,300 all purpose yards (over 1,600 receiving) and 25 TD's his senior year in Kansas City. Kid might be able to play. I think we should hold off on judging until we see how this kid performs.

I found a similar maxpreps page but it didn't have any stats. Appreciate the link.
I watched his HUDL tape last night. For those that haven't seen it, here's the link.

Not many spots left. Gotta love the early signing date. Getting a Michigan education is not a tough choice. On to the 2019 class ...

Harbaugh loves his multi-sport athletes. First impression watching his HUDL video: Good hands. Good athlete. You can tell he is a competitor as well. Will probably redshirt. Could be a very good slot receiver. Another under-rated kid who looks like a real find. Welcome aboard Ronnie!

Seems like Chase is trending to either LSU or TCU. Interesting to see that he does have one CB to U-M........from Ace just a few days ago. Wonder if Ace knows something nobody else does.

First look - very good at high-pointing on jump balls. Probably his best asset. Solid vision after the catch, can make people miss with decent agility. Speed will cap his ceiling. If he spent all his time on football? Low 4*. Since he didn't: generic 3*.

This is not good, You aren't winning a NC with projects.

The only part of his game that screams "project" is his build. He needs to put on 10-20 pounds of solid muscle before he'd be able to block or take a hit at the next level. Clearly has the natural ability to find the ball and pluck it, which is much more important than testing results.
December 18th, 2017 at 9:16 PM ^
With only projects, sure, but there always has to be room to develop guys and given the 16 and 17 classes, there room and space for that development, there's a lot to like with this guys film and they need a wide receiver. I think this class will provide some really great ,experienced depth when it's all said and done and Michigan needs that.

This feels like "we need a Wr in the class so lets take him." But what's the point of taking a guy if he never will contribute. I hope he can become a good, reliabel slot guy but the tape and offer sheet leave a lot to be desired.
December 19th, 2017 at 8:29 AM ^
Eh. There are other receivers we could have yoinked. So why throw out an offer in Kansas City if there's no real geographical benefit? Why not try to take a kid from Detroit or Grand Rapids where you can build some inroads for the future?
December 19th, 2017 at 12:17 PM ^
I'm guessing it's because the staff liked him.
December 19th, 2017 at 1:30 PM ^
Yeah, it was a rhetorical question, but thanks for answering. That's my point. They like Bell better than the local guys. Otherwise, they could have stolen someone from CMU or WMU if they're all equal, because it would grease the wheels for other local prospects in the future.

I don't disagree regarding putting faith in a professional talent evaluator with a history of success. But dangalang, a user name has not checked out like this in a hound's age.
December 19th, 2017 at 12:20 AM ^
He's not the talent that Chase is. But honestly, I felt there was no way Chase would see the field with Four older (and better) Outside WRs ahead of him. Bell and the kid from Cali are more comparable since they'd be playing more inside. If he turns out to be Grant Perry but with better ball skills in the air, Michigan just made themselves better. It's hard to sell a 5-star kid on "You'll be our weakside blocking WR who will get crossing routes and one on ones with safeties from time to time and be a safety valve for the QB along with our ten TEs".
