...of this board are the number of recruiting experts who post here. You know, people who know as well as, or even better than, those who work at it 24/7 and jobs depend on it. Kind of like folks who aren't real doctors they just play them on the radio.
Not that I'm above all that. Me? I'm not into more receivers in this recruiting cycle. We got a boatload of highly rated receivers last year. Where exactly is Van Jefferson going to play? Why take a scholarship and tie it up in one more receiver or tight end? This radio doctor would like to see more tackles, offensive or defensive. Not another bright shiny offensive bauble.

I get that we get Black back and DPJ should continue to improve, but our outside WR play this year was nothing short of abysmal. I certainly wouldn't mind more insurance with Van Jefferson.
December 14th, 2017 at 1:48 PM ^
was nothing short of abysmal. An offensive line that was lost on pass protection. Two QB's hurt, the second of which was a good man but not good at playing quarterback. Only then do you get to the receivers. DPJ and Black true freshmen. Crawford having a bad year. Collins paratically a red shirt. Martin was a red shirt.
December 14th, 2017 at 1:55 PM ^
Don't think VanJefferson was needed that bad anyway. Not like he was a burner which this team really needs. Not just another fill in possession guy. Remember that most of the SEC defenses aren't all that special and he wasn't exactly lighting them up as a guy who had good amounts of playing time. Lot of smoke and(in) mirrors here kids with his production. Just my beliefs though and what the hell do I know?
December 14th, 2017 at 2:55 PM ^
I don't see how you can look at that list and think, yep we're set at WR unless you're going strictly off recruiting rankings and assuming considerable improvement. Even if you consider Black and DPJ to be guaranteed solid options, in itself a stretch of an opinion, Van Jefferson gives us a guaranteed solid third option for two spots. And what if Black or DPJ gets hurt? You assume Collins or Crawford is going to step right in without a drop off?
I don't think the 2018 WR class is a big issue as far as incoming freshmen go, but certainly seems like Van Jefferson would be a good pick up.

I don't think Jefferson would start, really. He would probably be behind Black and Peoples-Jones, and he *might* beat out Grant Perry for a slot receiver position. He would be a good depth player, certainly, but I don't think he's a game changer.

Van Jefferson is a slot guy. I really hope Michigan can get Luke Ford. I would easily take the two guys we allready got over tremble.
Losing out on Anderson is way worse. Are safety play is not good. I fully expect J. Woods though to take over one of the safety positions. Maybe powell shows up a little more as he was only a freshman.
Frere, Patterson, Oweh, Chase, Ford and Friday and keeping Reese. These guys should be Michigan's main concerns. Harbaugh needs to close on these guys. These are the guys who make or break this years class.
December 14th, 2017 at 11:08 AM ^
I think our safety play has been better than good. If you are talking about some very good slot receivers (DaeSean Hamilton) getting the better of them this season, I don't think that's a far accessment. He will play on Sunday's and he got the better of every teams safeties. They were in a position to make a lot of the plays they didn't, and will only be better after having a year under their belts. He would have been good for depth, but I don't think he would have started, and he probably realized that, that's why he was never really thought of as a lock.

Is the most important and OSU is making a move. Can't miss on him!
December 14th, 2017 at 10:45 AM ^
like he had a pretty nice connection with Patterson, was my take in watching the film. But there are so many little things that go into this that many of us never see--especially the personal part of it--that I'm always inclined to think anyone who doesn't choose us shouldn't be here.

Tremble tweeted this a day and a half ago. In case you don't get the facial recognition he's between Ramsey and Hinton. I haven't seen anything since then that makes me think he's looking more towards ND GA or UCLA.

I don't know of any new info on Jefferson per se. But someone yesterday pointed out that of the three Ole Miss guys, Jefferson was the one whose chances of clearing admissions looked the diciest. So if Anderson didn't make it through...

Anderson waited until he heard that his transcripts didn't clear to move on with his recruitment.
Jefferson already visited Louisville earlier this week.
That should tell you everything about Jefferson's confidence of being able to transfer in.
December 14th, 2017 at 10:39 AM ^
People tend to forget it's not 100% football ability that has to be in order for a transfer to go through. There's those pesky classroom, grade-thingies that sort of have to be met too.
December 14th, 2017 at 10:16 AM ^
I'm fully prepared for the NCAA to not allow Patterson to play this season. Because that is how it works for UM. A few days ago it looked like were getting three good players, including one sure thing QB (according to some) and in the end we could very well be back at square one.
December 14th, 2017 at 10:27 AM ^
Well square one is a likely national title contender, so I think we'll be alright.

Per Sam Webb: #Michigan has offered 2018 Essexville (Mich.) Garber TE/LB (and Iowa commit) Ben VanSumeren
December 14th, 2017 at 11:24 AM ^
I was wondering if/when this was going to happen.
December 14th, 2017 at 11:39 AM ^
They are seemingly desperate for a third TE. That has to mean there will be some unexpected attrition from the TE's this offseason. I'd rather bank that scholarship for next year and give it to a walk on than a 3rd project te if the only guy we were losing this year was bunting.
December 14th, 2017 at 11:49 AM ^
Well...there is some expected attrition from the TE position.
December 14th, 2017 at 12:04 PM ^
Then it sort fo makes sense to go after a third no? Its a position Michigan was playing 4 guys with real playing time this year. If Wheately and Bunting are both gone that leaves you with only 3 TE's with playing experience and only 5 total on the roster for a position Michigan is often playing 2 guys at a time and 4 in a game. If we only had 3 OT's around next year I'd probably want 3 OT's in this class too.
December 14th, 2017 at 11:39 AM ^
VanSumeren catches the ball well. Iowa has a knack at finding 3* TE's and turning them into dudes. He'd probably be a good flip.

Ten straight minutes of watching this. I bet I've laughed a dozen times. Amazing. And it is on video. Just fantastic.

That spin looks to be entirely under control from the start. Didn't fight the fishtail and has that grip to stop the spin... wish I had that on US 23N a few years back.

I didn't have a car at UofM, so I went about 4 months without driving. My dad picked me up from school and brought me home for the holidays. I picked up some work over the break at the place I had a summer job. So the first day of the job, there was a snowstorm and the roads looked like the gif above. I'm driving to work and it's almost exactly like that video. Some bozo ahead of me was swerving all over. I thought I saw an opportunity to pass him, so I hit the gas and ended up swerving right into the ditch. Someone behind saw it happen, circled back and picked me up. They dropped me off at a gas station and I got the car towed out. I was only about 2-3 hours late for work that day. Ah, the joys of driving in Michigan (are you reading this XM?)

except I managed three complete circles, and at the end a slow motion bounce over a curb into a hedge. Brrr.

Let me get this straight. At 9:51 AM someone makes a speculative post on a mesage board regarding the 473rd ranked footbal recruit for 2018. By 10:42 there are 56 responses to this post. And its the recruits that are acting like 6 year old girls? Got it.

Michigan has a high 4-star in Muhammad and 3-star Schonnmaker already committed and they have 8 underclassmen TEs on the roster, most notably; McKean, Gentry, Wheatley and Eubanks.
Let the kid determine what situation is the best for his life moving forward and save the 12-year old insults...and maybe work on not having your emotions hang in the balance while 17 year old kids make their life decisions. Go BLUE!
