OT: Zak Irvin has left his team in Italy for "incomprehensible reasons"
As cited in the article, it's unclear why he left. The team released a statement saying Irvin left "for incomprehensible reasons" and "with no signs of intolerance."
Sportnado has reported he left the team for personal reasons and plans to return to the US.

So you're saying that if we had a Waffle House in Detroit, it would be called the Day-Twat Waffle House?

Neither is Indy

How's your Italian?

...if there's a bit of mistranslation there. The team president is quoted in that article as having previously called Irvin "an excellent schoolman," which is...odd.
I also wonder if the "no signs of intolerance" is a reference to racism (or the lack thereof). Racism in Italian soccer is sometimes blatant.

What I wonder is whether the spokesperson was essentially saying, "We don't know why he left, because we weren't having any race-related problems." That may not seem like such an odd thing to say in Italian sports. I don't know.

I think it's more of, "We don't know why he left, there were no signs that he was dissatisfied (or intolerant of his situation)."

The translation was clearly not ideal.

To me, this Italian guy was saying, "Irvin left. Ladies, look at my gorgeous chest hair that you can see because the top 4 buttons on my shirt are undone. And look at this gold chain, and how my sheer pants hug my manly hips..."
That's a loose translation, of course...

No wonder he left.

Was that whole article copied, run through google translate, and pasted?

I love that commercial.

The llama in the background is a really nice touch.

what the historical accuracy of that commercial is. I assume he's speaking modern Italian, but Marco Polo died in 1324. English was pretty different back then. I wonder if Italian was, too.
September 19th, 2017 at 4:02 PM ^
I don't know about the Italian, but unless Marco Polo took an undocumented trip to South America, he certainly did not own a llama.

No language on Earth does NOT evolve over a 700 year period. Hell, the French spoken in Quebec is noticably different than French-French. So no, modern Italian is almost certainly between "very" and "dramatically" different than 700 years ago.

Why don't we just tweet him?
I mean, Tarik Black was clearly fine, because he was tweeting right after the game.
(Sorry, low blow to the poster who said that...but seriously, I feel like he'll make a statement when he feels the time is right).

September 19th, 2017 at 8:36 PM ^
arrivederci. He must have a good reason. I don't know why anybody would voluntarily leave Italy to come to America.

where in the Italian version a policeman overtakes a speeding motorist and shouts at him, asking him for a sweater (a pullover).
