Why in the world would they put Wisc ahead of us? We beat Wisc head to head, played Ohio State tougher and on the road, beat Penn State and Colorado, and have a better SOS and other metrics.
Just strange.

The coach poll is completely a joke. They don't have enough time to watch any game tapes, they voite and serve their own interests. I am amaized it still exists. It's useless.

Except that there is human bias. Who do you think programs the computers?
November 27th, 2016 at 5:55 PM ^
Yeah, why the hell are they ahead of us as their marque wins are against #21, #22, and #25 while we have wins against #5 (s/b #6), #8, and #9.

For Wisconsin they didn't watch the game so they don't know how lop-sided it was.
They look back at the score and see a TD loss on the road early in the season.
Had we hit the field goals to make it 23-7 like it should have been we would be getting the benefit of the doubt.
November 27th, 2016 at 2:06 PM ^
If the CFP committee were smart, UM and OSU would be in ahead of both UW(Wisky not Washington) and PSU. But that's a big "if." Clearly, the best two teams in the conference are OSU and UM and I don't think it's close.
EDIT: Didn't wan't start yet another thread that will be deleted, but I found this amusing:

It also looks photoshopped, the hash marks are different sizes and have on odd bend to them.
November 27th, 2016 at 2:21 PM ^
The hash marks are all skewed and distorted. Michael Spath retweeted a photo from the sideline that gives the best view I have seen so far. It would be nice to see the photo credited to a photographer for the source.

Photos don't tell you anything because you have no idea *when* it was taken. I find it hard to believe there is any photo that shows his exact forward progress position.
Video is the only way to tell, and there were really no shots going directly down the line.
November 27th, 2016 at 2:34 PM ^
Someone could try to line up the photo with the video to match it, but that is beyond my skills.
November 27th, 2016 at 2:51 PM ^
do it, given the circumstances.

after the game i saw the play from two angles: 1. from above and slighlty behind (like most of the pictures we have seen) and 2. from ground level behind the line of scrimmage.
they played them simultaneously. barrett goes forward until he hits #88. the ball actually hits 88 in the ass. he immediately bounces backward. 88 continues to go forward. i think that pic above is the best i have seen and clearly shows 88's ass still behind the first down and barret has already made contact with him.
i think it's proof he came up about a foot short.
November 27th, 2016 at 2:33 PM ^
The one issue with this view is that it is impossible to tell at what time this snapshot was taken. Was it taken at the point where his forward progress stopped or as he is getting pushed back? Trying to stay objective here, but that is the one piece of information that would need to be added here.
November 27th, 2016 at 3:09 PM ^
Ball is sort of hidden from line judges and other refs by tangle of bodies.
Maybe they had no way to know one way or the other given no clear view of the ball and live action speed. So thge homer refs gave it to OSU.
To me the non-call on the obvious PI that forced M to kick a FG in the 2nd OT was obvious and indisputable. Should have been first and goal Michigan.

Whits hash marks are slanted, its a bad picture.
November 27th, 2016 at 1:36 PM ^
I think it's crazy we're ranked BELOW wisky, but to say there's some large disparity between OSU/MICH > WIsconson is silly. We both beat them by a single TD.
November 27th, 2016 at 2:56 PM ^
We doubled them up on total yardage and missed three FGs. We were the far better team that day. And they lost to OSU at home. It may not be a LARGE disparity, but they are a clear third in the conference, behind Michigan and OSU.
November 27th, 2016 at 1:49 PM ^
On paper, Wisky has the better losses but not the better OOC win...Michigan has lost 2 of their last 3 games.
I'm fine with this...as much as I can be, anyway.
We need a loss by Clemson or Washington and a Penn State win...although if Oklahome wins Bedlam, I could see them sneaking in (although I think that Michigan would pass the eye test over Okalhoma and Penn State).

Michigan passes the eye test over Oklahoma and probably Penn State as well

argument is stupid. Just because we played our toughest games at the end of the year and Wisconsin played theirs at the beginning of the year doesn't mean they're "hotter" or that we lost something. Order of games is arbitrary and should be considered in any streaks or trends to end the season.
November 27th, 2016 at 1:50 PM ^
Clemson is favored by 9 over VT
Washington is favored by 7 over CO
Wisconsion is favored by 2 1/2 over Ped St.

I think we only need wisky and washington to lose. We beat PSU 49-10, and we had a decicive victory over Colorado. We are clearly the best 2 loss team, if Washington loses, there will be a two loss team in the playoffs. It will come down to the comitee.
November 27th, 2016 at 2:14 PM ^
November 27th, 2016 at 2:19 PM ^
would do the trick, actually...Oklahoma and Clemson losses in addition to Wisconsin and Washington losses would be even better...
Michigan wins out in H2H eye tests v. Penn State and Colorado and probably in an eye test against Penn State and Oklahoma
November 27th, 2016 at 2:32 PM ^
Even then, I doubt we get in. Would the committee spurn the Big10 conference champion? Seems unlikely. If a second Big 10 team got in, would we be selected ahead of the OSU team that (nominally) won the game against us? Also seems unlikely. Unfortunately.
November 27th, 2016 at 2:40 PM ^
and they lost @ Michigan, say, 28-14 or 24-14, I could see them going with Penn State in that scenario...but 49-10?
I think the committee would throw that shade at Penn State
November 27th, 2016 at 2:46 PM ^
Maybe, maybe not. But it sure would provide for chaotic controvery and give us a chance.

It typically rolls like that, although we'll see at some point in the future - if it happens - when Alabama takes an inexplicable step back and goes 7-5 and yet several writers south of the Mason-Dixon line see no reason that this should keep them out of the Top 15, we shall see the theory tested, I imagine.
Well, even that likely wouldn't happen - the beat guys in the SEC can't all be stooges, can they? Hmmm....

#2 OSU
#6 Wisconsin
#8 PSU
#9 Colorado
#22 Iowa
#23 Nebraska
I don't think there is any team in the country that has more top 10 wins than Michigan.
November 27th, 2016 at 2:53 PM ^
to jump from 8 to 4 by beating no 6 Wisconsin, right?
November 27th, 2016 at 2:58 PM ^
We didn't play Nebraska - their ranking isn't relevant to us, beyond indirect factors like their being an opponent of some of our opponents.
