Franklin gets dreaded vote of confidence from PSU AD
As the title states, James Franklin received the dreaded vote of confidence from PSU AD Sandy Barbour. While she insists that Franklin "is not on the hot seat and won't be on the hot seat in December," I'm not too sure I believe that with PSU yet to play MSU or OSU this season, despite his steep $12 million buyout. ....no, jay paterno.
BTW, FUCK penn state and all their delusional joepa loving fans!!!

He kicked a field goal down 28 in the 3rd quarter....He told his players they might as well give up because he had.
If that doesn't get you in a hot seat at PSU what does?
Wait don't answer that.

am sure everyone is getting into "seats" at PSU

to me an even worse decision by franklin, was in the third qtr. down 28-3 penn state has a fourth and one at their 41 yard line. the idiot punts the ball and peppers fair catches at michigans 30. evans then runs on the first play 40 yards.
for those that think franklin is a bad in game coach, this is why. you at that point are not holding your own with michigan. to give the ball back in the second half down 4 scores and you need 1 yard shows you are stupid.

If you have 4th and short and you're down by 28, maybe amp up your guys and go for it! It's a little victory that you can point to during practice.
Same thing for 4th and goal. He had already called a time out, so why not run your sure fire trick play? Tell your OL to hold back the tidal wave for 3 seconds so your QB can do his job. "Come on guys - let's do this!". But no: "let's get 3 to avoid the shut out since we will never get this close again today." Sigh.

Which is the worst reason to punt at that point. I think there is a risk that it gets out of control this year for them. I am not so sure they give him another year if they don't show improvement and it appears that the staff and players aren't competing to win. PSU pride and all that. When the powerful alumni, especially the lettermen turn on Franklin the AD will buckle and Franklin will be gone.

Now I know how the rest of the B1G felt when Brandon gave Hoke the same vote of confidence back in 2014.

Absolutely think Brandon would have kept Hoke.

Can you explain what WD did?

Posted here an email exchange with DB from a "friend" which was found out to be his aunt (I don't know how that was found out) that started the snowball of DB email "scandal" which was the reason his firing happened when it did.
*probably would've happend but even the president admitted the emails were an impetus for making the change

It was my friend's aunt.

I was not part of the blog when Brandon went down, and I have ready "Brandon's Lasting lessons" but what part did WD play in all this exactly? I'm curious because this is not the first time WD has been mentioned as having played a part in Brandon's demise...

No Brandon fired, no Hackett. No Hackett, no Harbaugh. Getting Brandon fired was the CRITICAL step to turning our football program around.

you know, to still be down four scores.

right after the field goal. Points still required to win? Grocery list?

If you haven't looked at the gif of that already, do yourself a favor and check it out. Was posted a day or two ago. Just don't do it if you have an office job.

his user name is NittanyFan but he had a pretty good post about what Franklin wrote down. I think it was in the comment section of Brian's game recap.
September 29th, 2016 at 3:31 PM ^
(1) "Let's see, 28 minus 3 is 25, divided that by 3, that's 8, there's a remainder too though. So we'll need nine more field goals. GOT IT. NINE field goals and we win! I got my 2nd half game plan now!"
(2) "My contract gives me a $10,000 bonus for every year in which my team is not shut out. Getting closer to a nice weekend getaway with the wife! But hmmmm, how will I not get shut out by Ohio State also?"
(3) "All those players out there --- how many of them are going to quit on me given that I am qutting on them? Billy, he won't quit, he's tough. Johnny, he probably will. Jack, I don't know about him, let's put down a question mark. .................."
I had a beer with a friend the other night. We were joking about kicking 9 more field goals to win. His comment cracked me up, and is likely true: "even if we DID kick 8 more field goals and got inside the 20 yard line on the game's final drive, Franklin would have then fucked up the timeouts. Some screw-up is always inevitable."
September 29th, 2016 at 1:31 PM ^
how about taking a timeout to save 5 yards on a 21 yard attempt?

At schools with storied football programs, I believe alumni generosity and performance on the football field have some degree of correlation. At some point, sooner than later, Franklin will be on the hot seat. If PSU doesn't play in a bowl game this season, there will be an awful lot of noise.
When he was at Vandy, Franklin's turnaround of a hapless team was impressive. At PSU, quite the opposite.
