Red Berenson To Return
Red will be behind the bench again in 2016-17. [Patrick Barron]
At the hockey posteason banquet, Red Berenson announced that he'll return next season. From Michigan Daily hockey beat writer Justin Meyer:
Breaking: Red Betenson will return to Michigan next season

Confirmed at end of year awards. "I had a conversation with Warde Manuel and I'm here today to say this will not be my last hockey banquet"

We are in the studio recording this week's podcast. More to come this week.

It's better to compare this to the alternative. We don't know who would replace Red or who was considered.
I'm fine with it as long as Red is the best person to lead the team next year. I'm not convinced he is, but let's see how this works out. I doubt Compher and Motte are affected by this. If they are then there's more to it that has nothing to do with Red.
Are the players calling out Red like Hackenberg called out Franklin? I haven't heard that. Pundits yes - players no. Did I miss that?
Brian is going to be all annoyed about this but, really, he needs to take a step back from the ledge and remember the days of people freaking out about Lloyd Carr. Indeed, how did that work out?
If Michigan is serious about replacing Red then they need to do a professional grade swim lane search the same as with Harbaugh. Discount Red's coaching acumen at your peril.

was not that it was time for the program to move on. Everyone, including Lloyd, agreed with that. The problems come from the hires made to follow Lloyd, not that Lloyd was replaced.
Same.
I'm sure you were about 5 or 7 during the years when Lloyd Carr's tenure came to an end at Michigan so the live action of the narrative of the day is probably not very real to you...just what you heard or read over time. As one who, sadly, lived in the blog era of "Michigan needs a new Carr with Les Miles" meme I would say you are miles off here. People then wanted change for change and there was a real fear of the spread Oregon teams etc. (or App State as you identify) changing the whole landscape in football. Brian was an early adopter (and still stays with this) although the lessons of a dominant pro-style Alabama take away the veracity of such claims. Harbaugh will prove this further.
I'm sure that somewhere in the SuperGuides there is documentation of Carr's consistent success at Michigan inclucing 2006 where he should have been in the MNC. I'd far rather have had more Lloyd or hell, Miles, than the reaction hire in the AD that brought on an absolutely brutal fit in RichRod. The meme that Lloyd screwed Rod is pretty tired, also.
Tires of the Lloyd blaming.
Completely apt comparison with Red.
Agreed with everything you said except "The meme that Lloyd screwed Rod is pretty tired, also."
He was absolutely not a help to RichRod with the players or the lettermen. That's not a meme, it's just a documented fact.
Well, it's documented in a book, but whether it's factual or conjecture is hard to say. The book gave us RichRod's perspective but not Carr's. Rich could have been wrong about some of the things he told Bacon.
Lol you need to lay off the daytime soap operas. Declining to be interviewed means exactly jack shit
Carr declining to be interviewed is the sign of a man who owes no explanation, which was well-earned by a career of loyalty to Michigan, not to mention a national championship.
So you were 13 in RichRod's first season, but you know what went on behind the scenes?

Of course, Lloyd wanted to leave a year earlier but Martin talked him into staying.
I don't see the comparisons between Lloyd and Red. Lloyd was 62 when he retired, not particularly old, and he had to be persuaded to even stay on that long. Moreover, the final years of his tenure really weren't that different from earlier on. We went to the Rose Bowl in 2003, 2004 and 2006. The main issue with the second half of his tenure was that OSU upgraded its coaching staff, as did USC. If he could have kept on facing John Cooper, his OSU record would have probably remained stellar.
You are referencing the guy who paid for the weed, the tats or the cars?
by "they" I was talking about Florida......and we were perfectly healthy when we got pantsed by App State and Oregon the following week.
I have come to the conclusion that, as a fan, whether or not I agree with the move is inconsequential. He's the coach for at least another year. Manuel asked him to come back. AFAIC, since the decision has been made, there's really nothing left to do but show support and cheer for a great year in 2016-17.
Sorry for my "fan tunnel vision," but that's the way it goes.

although to be fair, back then, the glacial ice covering the state had just receeded, and the usual covering of choice was mastadon skins....
Disappointing and clearly the wrong decision. However, if you said before we hired him that Red would bring us 2 national titles, multiple Hobey winners, and scads of conference titles, but the price to pay would be a few bleh years at the end, every single one of us would've taken the deal. Hopefully this just means a slight delay on the start of the Mel Pearson era.
great run at an NCAA title, planing on leaving the program at the top, with a full cupboard.

Good bad or otherwise, I have not really heard any talk about who would replace him outside of the existing staff and I do not see a head coach there. That means going out side Yost. Who is out there that is a young tallented Hockey coach that we could get to come to AA to step in when Red retires?
fuck this...
I love Red but he's fucking up... he needs to go. This is such a downer.
