Depending on the seasons at

Depending on the seasons at both LSU and Auburn, if either of those teams decides to make a change, I could definitely see them contacting Petrino.

I think he's "fixated" because that was the entire premise of your post. His comment makes sense if you go back and read the first sentence of your post.

Totally agree. Without those

Totally agree. Without those types of players on the team, we've really struggled.

Not sure why its unreasonable

Not sure why its unreasonable to question the offensive philosophy. Yes, Coach B has done well in the past, and those performances hinged on the talent he was able to recruit. However, much like the complaints against RR when he was here, I personally dont believe he adjusts his offense for the players on the court. We dont have the playmakers we used to, yet we are running the same styles and schemes. Moreover, as we consistently take lower-percentage shots, the emphasis on having bruising bigs becomes more important, which weve lacked in recent years. This is albeit my opinion, but - as you state - you question my basketball knowledge. So its probably invalid.

Damn....Those are honestly

Damn....Those are honestly sky high expectations for this team. I like your assessment for how they may achieve those expectations, but I still cant understand who or how our defense and rebounding will improve when we enter conference play. If we achieve all your ideas, awesome! I will re-hop on the Coach B train. Unfortunately, though, I just dont see the talent required to move this team to the next level; and, I see our rivals significantly upgrading their teams.

One thing I am curious to see is who steps up to be a team leader. We havent seemed to have "the guy" the past several years who could either motivate the squad or put the team on his back to bring home a win. i wonder if Walton can move into that very needed role.

Admittedly, these are very high expectations for a team that I personally cant see finishing above 7th. But, since you have been a vocal optimist about this upcoming season, how will you feel if we do not achieve these expectations?

Also, what is the objective of your last paragraph? Is your general belief that unless we sustain our Coach B contract, we will spiral into another infraction? It seems like you are willing to accept current performance because you are afraid of repeating the results of the previous tenures. However, arent there other ways? I mean, I find it hard to believe any coach with success is obtaining those results by cheating. I guess I just wish we could have dialogue on this board about Coach B without the pontification that the absence of Coach B equates cheating and imminent NCAA infractions.

This year seems like a giant

This year seems like a giant question mark, IMO. I could see the team locking in and - somehow - grabbing a top-3 finish. I could also see some early losses demoralizing the team, resulting in a bottom-3 performance. Honestly, it is hard for me to be on the optimistic side of things. I just dont see who will step up as a defender or rebounder, and I still question the entire offensive philosophy in a league like the Big 10. Living by the three works if you have Curry, Clay, and Kevin...otherwise we simply die by the three.

I assume you're joking. Sparty is essentially built for March. Their track record speaks for itself (queue "yeah, but last year they sucked!")

Dude...I wish I could get behind your enthusiasm but it's too much of a stretch. In my opinion, Indiana, Maryland, and Illinois all feature better returning duos; and, with Sparties freshman class, they're gonna play above the rim. I appreciate "experience" in football, less so in college basketball. I'm unfortunately not optimistic about this year, and I'm not very high on our coach either. The Big Ten could be deep this year, and I'm not sure we stand up to many teams, particularly when it comes to turnovers and boards.

I still don't entirely know

I still don't entirely know what the 4th down controversy was from the beginning? It seemed pretty clear and simple and - even watching the game live - I thought it was over. What justification did the refs provide to give CMU another crack at it?

Admittedly, I was one of those fans yesterday. During the game and immediately following, I didn't really think the score was indicative of on-field performance. However, that's only because I'm a moron. Now, having read the PFF and bloggers much more knowledgeable than me, I think we played a great game.

I agree with all these

I agree with all these sentiments. I however was underwhelmed with both our o-line and rb performances. It was rough at times and their d-line and lbs were constantly in our backfield.

Easy...not the whole team,

Easy...not the whole team, but parts were outplayed. Our O-Line looked shockingly incompetent for much of the game, significantly impacting our run offense.

Honestly, it was a game that I watch being very happy it was UCF. I feel like if we had played a team with a pulse, our mistakes would have been magnified much more.

Ummmmm...Nope. IMO nearly every weekend is boring with the exception of when UM plays a reasonable opponent. Other than that, college football is very boring to me. But this is coming from a guys that loves the NFL...so take it with a grain of salt.

Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
Idk...I think it depends

Idk...I think it depends where you grew up. Obviously, a lot of people on this board are from Michigan and grew up choosing or following UM or the Lions, which - yeah - that sucks. I'd hate to be a Lions fan. It would totally make me apathetic to the NFL. But I grew up in the Bay with one of the greatest dynasties in football history. My earliest memories are Montana, not Bo. I never got into college football until my late teens; by that point, I'd already been to dozens of Niners games.

Long story short: Both are great. I grew up with NFL and love it. When I went to UM, I learned to love that too...

This conversation made me so happy. Isn't it awesome to debate who our best All-American player is?? I have missed these days...

Kind of a different take: I

Kind of a different take: I was annoyed at Harbaugh for publicly airing out some of the program's dirty laundry. I don't actually think he was wrong, but I disagreed with how he did it. On the same token, I remember being more upset at Mike Hart. He really had no right to say those things particularly when - IMO - Harbaugh and his UM teams accomplished much more than Hart (emphasis on teams).

I guess it's interesting how people views of this program have changed over time. 20 years ago, I'm not sure anyone would describe Nebraska as "classy." Nebraska was basically Miami without South Beach and Two Live Crew.

Not sure it's that big of a stretch. If memory serves me correct, didn't Ruddock have 3-4 weeks to learn this offense before the Utah game? Sleight has had more than a year? Agree that Ruddock's actual game experience counts for a lot, but I'm not sure it necessarily means he was more or less in command of Harbaugh's offense.

Why is it bad form to say

Why is it bad form to say this? One person could interpret this as a slam against Funk. Another could interpret this as a highly recruited star OL whose had a dubious career at best wishes he could have learned from arguably the best OL coach in the business for more than two years. Seems reasonable to me.

Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
And Drevno has done the

And Drevno has done the same...and produced All-Pro linemen in the NFL. Kalis isn't saying Funk was a bad coach. Funk is probably a great coach that simply didn't "fit" with the Hoke / Borges offensive philosophy. But - it's also not fair to suggest Funk is remotely on the same level as Drevno, and - if I was Kalis and vying for a potential NFL career - I'd want to be developed by the best. That's not a knock against Funk but rather a complement to Drevno IMO.

Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
If you are referring to

If you are referring to college football, the only person that comes to mind is Spurrier. If you are talking about football (including NFL) or other sports, I think there's a pretty good list that Harbaugh would be added to.

I have to imagine this

I have to imagine this graphic summarizes why NFL discussion on here is both weak and pedantic. The vast majority of posters here have never known what it feels like to be part of a proud NFL franchise. Most - frankly - only have the Lions.
I grew up with the NFL. As an out of state student, I knew nothing about Michigan until I was 18. By that time, I had memorized the stats of Montana, Rice, Craig, Lott, Sanders, etc.
UofM was obviously an institution for me. I learned about in my mind the great coaches: Yost, Crisler, and Bo. And I love college football now, no matter how untalented and overmatched 90% of the game are! But I honestly feel bad for all those fans on this blog who hold the Lions as their NFL team. It's much, much better elsewhere!
