Dave Brandon Out At Toys 'R' Us - Back to Sports
It's hard to glean from this ARTICLE whether the move was voluntary or not, but Dave Brandon and Toys 'R' Us have severed ties so that Brandon can join the Washington Redskins as their new Senior Vice President - Marketing & Public Relations. Quotes? Quotes:
Joshua Bekenstein, Board of Directors, Toys 'R' Us: We appreciate all that Dave Brandon has done on behalf of Toys 'R' Us, coming in at a difficult time and righting the Toys 'R' Us ship. While we have had to work through employee and retail unit right-sizing, we believe that Dave's tireless efforts have increased the overall enterprise's value and we appreciate all he's done. While store closings and employee right-sizing will continue in his absence, Dave Brandon really jumpstarted that process, and the stakeholders appreciate his efforts.
Daniel M. Snyder, Owner, Washington Redskins Football Club: The entire Redskins organization is thrilled to welcome Dave Brandon into his new role directing the Redskins' marketing and community relations efforts. The Redskins play an outsize role in both the DC metropolitan community and across the nation, and we think that Dave is the perfect choice to solidify and maximize those relationships. Dave has a strong sports and PR background, and is the ideal man for the job. Dave helped to rebuild the University of Michigan sports programs, including hiring Jim Hackett, and has made each place he has worked a stronger, more familial environment.
Dave Brandon, SVP - Marketing & PR, Washington Redskins Football Club: I am thrilled to join the Redskins and assist Dan Snyder, Jay Gruden, and (Director of Football Operations) Paul Kelly in my new role. And I am especially excited to continue to cement the Redskins' nationwide brand, and find new and innovative ways to continue to honor Native American culture through the Redskins' brand. I also look forward to working with the club on public education of currently overstated CTE and concussion issues.
That is the PERFECT team for him to join
Kind of like "real recognize real" it seems that "tone deaf recognize tone deaf". A marriage made in ... kindergarden of a prep school?

It's really an unbelieveable hire - puts Brandon in exactly the wrong position, in exactly the wrong organization.
OH. MY. GOD.
"Fans have also complained about the game-day experience... [and] have expressed displeasure with [Dan] Snyder led initiatives that they feel distract from the enjoyment of attendance. One fan explains:
He's going to have a "Super Bowl Experience" every other Sunday, it seems.
Steve is not gonna be pleased.
What better way to celebrate it than a mention from one of the greatest Fools in Michigan history.
Is your avatar the fat kid from The Sandlot? He looks sick :(
Has to be a April Fool joke, right?

by being Dave Brandon and getting fir....er...stepping down to explore new opportunities, he played the biggest role in getting Hackett.Just think, if he had just been even 80% as bad as he was, we'd probably not have either Jim here. It took him being 100% a-hole level to make that happen.
Today is the worst day to be on the internet.
Also the best.
Is this an April Fool's joke?
No! I don't believe it! You shut up! It is an April Fool's joke!
Just need to ask why anyone would be a Washington fan?
I have never seen this video. It is hilarious.
this should be an April Fool's joke. DB to DC.

Well, thats... um... ok. Not surprising I guess. Does that last sentence just feel wrong to anybody else? oh wait... April 1. Ok. ok.
ND certainly checks references - witness the O'Leary debacle. There certainly seems to be a bit of puffing going on with the Washington - Brandon hire.
NOTE: telling a lie is not an "April Fool's Prank." Not even if you can get people to believe it.
Joke or not, the refrain remains the same: Fuck that guy.
LOL he hired Jim Hackett? That was especially imaginative...nice. With Snyder this would actually be plausible.
Interesting coordinated press release at 8:30 in the morning.
... on the first of April
This was a good one because people actually could see this being true. I wouldn't put it past DB or Danny S.

This has to be true. If you look at the Brandon quote, he mentioned BRAND twice. POSBANG for Brandon hiring Hackett!!!

April Fool's right? This can't be real. Especially this sentence:
And I am especially excited to continue to cement the Redskins' nationwide brand, and find new and innovative ways to continue to honor Native American culture through the Redskins' brand.
They'll be changing their name within a year after some of Dave's gaffes force them to do so.
Snyder has certainly painted himself into a corner with his defense of the team name, and Brandon seems an especially poor choice to fix that issue. I'll be curious to see how this all pans out.
My favorite part was the sentence about Dave having a strong PR background.
and hired for community relations! LOL
