OT- Keith Emerson has died
My all-time personal musical hero, for too many reasons to go into here. We haven't even reached spring, and I can't believe all of the people from the music world who have passed away this year...
What a lucky man....he was.
Lucky Man was a Greg Lake song, but yeah.
Was also notable for Emerson's Moog solo at the end of the song for a lot of historical reasons, but yeah.
Big, big fan of ELP in my teens. Sad day.
ELP bitch-slap fest!
Please continue
Before social media. he kept a low profile.
Thanks for everything. RIP.
2016...the year the music died. Emerson had chops like no other in rock. RIP

I saw ELP from the 15'th row at COBO in the early 70's. He bounced off of the stage and walked up the aisle with his synthesiser playing a wild melody. He stopped at the end of our row and pointed the keyboard down the aisle and different colored lights were spewed from the end. Great concert, of what I remember. Trajic loss of music this year as I just found out that Paul Kantner died in January. I did not know that either. RIP
Are full of shit
No, really?
Dammit.
ELP were amazing.
Karn Evil 9. Ok, two words + a digit
Toccata (from that same album, "Brain Salad Surgery")
Here's a live version of Toccata, showcases the talents of all 3 musicians:
I saw him stab his Hammond organ long time ago.
Saw ELP with Yes at the old East Town in Detroit in the early 70's. At the end of the show he stuck a giant knife in the high C note and it was earsplitting, and then he pulled out a little war axe and slammed it into the bottom base key. This, of course, caused the floor and walls to vibrate and our eyes to feel the enormous back-pressure. When they shut it down, everyone was stunned (and stoned). One of the best shows ever, all time, even w/o the acid (which my med school girlfriend had dropped earlier). Quite an adventure getting back to A2 that night.
and Procol Harum within a 3 week period at the Eastown in '71. I still haven't recovered.
Edit: In response to the post above - I can't recall which song, but they were moving the sound from the left bank of speakers to the right, and there were people moving their head "looking" at the sound. That of course, brings to mind the lines from Tyner's "Grande Days":
And you swore that it was true
That you could hear the colors
And you could see the music too
He was basically the Hendrix/Van Halen of keyboards. His heyday was with Emerson, Lake and Palmer in the 70's, he was a pioneer in the use of synthesizers (Moog, later Yamaha) in rock music, especially playing live.
"From The Beginning" is one of my all time favorite songs.
Mine too. Great, haunting song.
Love ELP. Saw Rush this past summer at The Palace, and got really excited because "Knife Edge" was playing over the speakers in the arena while we were waiting for the concert to begin.
ELP was maybe the best concert I ever went to growing up in A2 during the 70's. Just amazing music and sound. Carl Palmer was liekly the best drummer I ever witnessed in person. Keith Emerson will be missed! :( RIP
Anyone remember Red Wing Hockey on Channel 50 with Hoedown as the theme song?
Also, Sam and Ira used to use Karn Evil 9 as bumper music on their show.
