OT: Best/Worst Christmas movies

As a neutral (Jewish) observer... Die Hard #1.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:14 AM ^
But I'd hardly consider a Jewish person to be a "neutral observer".

The first time I saw Bing Crosby's White Christmas was like, 3 years ago. Same with a Christmas Story. I didn't have parents forcing me to watch their favorite (making me hate it) nor did I develop nostalgia for [your favorite movie as a kid] just because I associate it with presents. That's more what I meant when I said "neutral" - I can watch these as movies, not with baggage.

I was making a joke.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:14 AM ^
I too think the 1st Die Hard is the best non-traditional Christmas movie. I clicked on the thread to go with Die Hard but you beat me to it.
Elf would be my favorite "real" Christmas movie, its what we have on when we put up the tree each year.
December 10th, 2015 at 12:28 PM ^
Gee, haven't heard this joke before.

Forgot about Elf, that's a classic.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:14 AM ^
gets bonus points for being a funny movie that is not dirty. Very high degree of difficulty there.
December 10th, 2015 at 12:18 PM ^
It's very funny and not dirty nor mean nor hateful nor selfish nor too lowbrow. The first time I saw it I said, "They created a Christmas Classic that will endure." Very few have done that. The list of the best in that format is short:
It's a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Story
Elf
The Santa Clause (#1)
Miracle on 34th Street (Original)
Then, not in that category, but Christmas movies I also enjoy:
Die Hard (1 & 2)
Nightmare Before Christmas
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Animated Version)
Rudolph (Original Claymation)
Peanuts Christmas
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

James Caan is an underrated comedic genius.

Anyone who doesn't answer "Christmas Vacation" is an asshole. Merry Christmas everyone!

It's a Wonderful Life has to be one of the best. As far as worst goes, I would say Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:24 AM ^
You've outed yourself as someone who doesn't live in reality!
December 10th, 2015 at 11:25 AM ^
I am not part of this world.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:31 AM ^
I'm not talking about this world, I'm talking about the whole of reality. I'm Christian too (not the Kirk Cameron type though), but if you think that Kirk Cameron movie is anything other than the worst kind of didatic crap, you don't live in reality! I can't imagine how anyone could sit through that whole sticking piece of dogshit and not either fall asleep or puke.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:37 AM ^
I take it you didn't see where I said the Kirk Cameron movie is the worst Christmas movie. I'm not sure why you're arguing with me.

"I'm Christian too...can't imagine how anyone could sit through that whole sticking piece of dogshit"
Really??? Might want to rethink that.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:40 AM ^
but I believe he actually did say the Cameron movie was the worst.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:59 AM ^
Don't be making fun of Mikey like that. We are best buds!
December 11th, 2015 at 12:26 PM ^
Did you read where he said "worst"?
Edit: And I'm an idiot. Dude already apologized. Read all material before replying. :)

The Santa Clause* is my favorite. I really like the Jim Carrey Grinch one. And probably Christmas Vacation as a third.
Not the worst, but I believe Elf is extremely overrated and on my do not watch list.
*original only. The sequels were [trash emoji].
December 10th, 2015 at 11:54 AM ^
Who the hell calls Elf over-rated?
People who hate fun! That's who!

Classic Murray, I'm sorry....you know I thought you were Richard Pryor
The Ref is a very underrated movie, Leary is hilarious.
A Very Sunny Christmas has become an annual tradition for me as well.
Die Hard

December 10th, 2015 at 12:09 PM ^
Also Blackadder's Christmas Special
And Trading PlacesDecember 10th, 2015 at 10:59 AM ^
Best: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, followed by Home Alone 1 and 2.

it's the version with George C. Scott as Scrooge.
Edit: I guess that would be A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott.
