Brown bear, what did you see?
September 4th, 2015 at 1:12 PM ^
Yes, he did get in for RB.
September 4th, 2015 at 1:12 PM ^
maybe he doesnt need a gps to find the hole
September 4th, 2015 at 1:49 PM ^
in night games because he uses the stars for navigation, thank you very much.

Derrick Green has been retweeting people telling him he needs more carries.
I predict sets of stadium steps are in his future.
September 4th, 2015 at 1:16 PM ^
Considering Smith had to carry multiple people on his back for the yards that he got. Green is pretty notorious for falling at first contact.

Might sound bad, but if I were him I would transfer.
He's not going to see much of the field this year IMO.
September 4th, 2015 at 1:26 PM ^
Interesting thought -- which players, based on nothing but last night's game, do the tea leaves bode ill?
Derrick Green -- reasons cited above
Andrew David -- scholarship kicker is third on depth behind two walk ons
Shane Morris -- brief camera shot of him on sideline showed one upset young man
September 4th, 2015 at 1:31 PM ^
Brendan Gibbons had to redshirt his freshman year in 2009 because Jason Olesnavage, who was a 5th year guy, was doing better.
The thought on Scout is that Harbaugh may decide to go back and take a kicker in 2016, though.
Also a cool stat I saw on twitter: Kenny Allen became the first black kicker to score PAT and a FG in the Big Ten Conference last night.

Not sure if he was the first black kicker in the Big Ten but he was pretty damn good.

When did I say it was based on last night's game only?
We have a lot of evidence actually. Smith consistantly beating him out. Isaac looking better than Smith and also his work at USC. And Drake Johnson being better than all when healthy...
Green is buried and he isn't helping himself getting out by falling at first contact and having terrible vision. He may just not be very good at football?
September 4th, 2015 at 2:13 PM ^
When did I say it was based on last night's game only?
You didn't; I didn't imply that. I was suggesting a thought exercise.
September 4th, 2015 at 3:33 PM ^
I gotcha.
September 4th, 2015 at 1:39 PM ^
I get that your premise is to go off of just last night, but yeah, its early. I suspect a few guys who didnt play big roles last night will come into them, and a few guys who played last night might fall out of them. A few more weks may give us a better idea of where guys really are than just last night.
Green-- Yeah, it's going to be tough for him to get touches, especially when Drake is healthy.
David-- He is a freshman. He may need time to adjust. He may not have earned trust yet. He has time.
Shane-- "brief" camera shot isnt much to go on. If I remember it, M was down a couple scores at the time. I would be upset if my team was losing. Context could be anything, maybe someone farted right next to him.
September 4th, 2015 at 2:25 PM ^
I get that your premise is to go off of just last night, but yeah, its early.
Agree, it's early. And thanks for understanding the post and playing along.
The thing about Green is he's had plenty of time to establish himself ... and hasn't. New OC, new RB coach, new HC ... and he's down the depth chart. That does not bode well.
The thing about David is he's a scholarship kicker. That's a scholarship slot I'm nearly certain Harbaugh would love to get back. That's the particular pressure David is under.
Morris -- yeah, I wasn't serious about the one camera shot. But put yourself in his shoes. He has to be wondering when or if he'll get his chance. Next year he has to face another transfer in O'Korn, plus Gentry. And did anyone happen to notice the similarities between Utah's QB Travis Wilson and Zach Genty? Both tall, agile QBs.

No ... in front of my TV in Tucson.
September 4th, 2015 at 7:01 PM ^
....but at this point, I bet Shane focuses on his diploma and maybe trying a 5th year transfer as his final shot at getting a NFL tryout.
But I'm not sure he'll even get garbage time anymore, they may waste Malzone's red shirt if Rudock can't go for any reason.
September 4th, 2015 at 1:20 PM ^
He'd get more carries if he didn't go down on contact. Most overrated 5 star in a long time. I'd rather Drake Johnson get all of Green's carries going forward.
September 4th, 2015 at 1:24 PM ^
I think it's safe to say that Derrick Green is a bust.
September 4th, 2015 at 1:27 PM ^
Maybe he should stop listening to people on social media tell him how great he is and work harder in practice. RTD wouldn't have gotten a sniff at RB if he didn't work hard to get a rep in a game.
Work will win, when wishing won't.
September 4th, 2015 at 1:43 PM ^
This is dumb and blindly arrogant. You assume paying attention to social media means he is not working as hard as he can in practice. It may be true, but you in no way know this. You make an assumption in order to then make a critical comment about Greene, when you dont really know what the hell is going on.How do you know that Greene is not just paying attention to social media when resting? When he cannot actually practice? It could just be that Smith and RTD are better than he is. Stop making immature, assinine assumptions.
September 4th, 2015 at 1:55 PM ^
I always thought 20 year olds who make their own logos were super mature individuals.
Mindblown...
September 4th, 2015 at 2:48 PM ^
*Green
Retweeting people telling you that you need more carries after a loss is not a good look. Hence my original comment of him probably having to run stadium stairs.
If you want more carries, work for them. That's all I'm saying.
September 5th, 2015 at 8:04 AM ^
A agree the tweets are dumb. But you dont know he is not working for those carries. He might just not be as good as Johnson, Smith, and Isaac are. You rightly criticize his tweets, but none of us know what is happening in practice.
September 4th, 2015 at 2:43 PM ^
Not that I completely disagree, but if you're going to ban immature, assinine assumptions the comments on this board are going to be cut drastically.
September 4th, 2015 at 3:36 PM ^
Not sure he is receiving it, but this whole things smells like that.
He may go down on contact but he is physically more talented then Smith. Not close. Smith maximizes his effort and is rewarded for that. Plus he appears to be better in pass pro.
They are trying to reach Green to change his attitude and effort (my opinion based on absolutley no evidence or inside info).
The upside with green in there is significantly higher than smith. But if he is not going to try or practice with effort, we are stuck with smith.
Please Drake go to Tibet and find a buddhist monk with incredible healing powers. Come back as nimble and fast as you were late last year.
September 4th, 2015 at 3:52 PM ^
He's always run like someone who would get knocked over at a pillow fight. My memory isn't great but I never recall a "wow run" from him where he knocked over or made someone miss then used this mystical speed he possesses.
September 4th, 2015 at 4:39 PM ^
That is all I am saying. If he ran as hard as Smith he would be better because he can cut better and has more top end speed.
I am not arguing he does not go down too easy. That is my point with the coaches, they are trying to get him to change his style and toughen up. Once again, my opinion based on no evidence.

not that long ago...Will Campbell
September 4th, 2015 at 1:22 PM ^
He doesn't need more carries, he needs more YARDS per carry.
September 4th, 2015 at 1:49 PM ^
I'm telling you guys Ty Isaac will be the feature back when it is all said and done...
September 4th, 2015 at 2:24 PM ^
Ty Isaac is a good complimentary back..Smith is faster, stronger and runs harder. If the OL can open more holes we could be in business.

Smith is not faster.
Not even close.
September 4th, 2015 at 3:26 PM ^
If Ty can get his pass blocking up to snuff, he will be starting.
He's a better receiver (Smith's easy drop last night prolly gave half this board a heart attack)
Faster, you just can't tell atm since he's catching up from his injury
Once he's comfortable he'll be our best back sharing the load with Drake Johnson when he's healthy.
September 4th, 2015 at 4:20 PM ^
What games have you been watching? There is no way in hell that Smith is faster than Ty Issac.
September 4th, 2015 at 2:28 PM ^
Isaac just seemed really slow and timid to me. I wish we would have a back that could see the hole and hit it hard. Everyone seems so timid when the run.
