Denard arrested for DWI after he was involved in a car crash.

This is insane.
These guys are really dumb
Oh crap, are we the new Georgia?
In all seriousness, an Uber or taxi are cheaper than the alternative. Be safe and be smart, folks.
can we just get an athletic dept uber fund? this is the dumbest way to get in trouble, not to mention incredibly dangerous. probably better uses of money exist, but tathastu
So, so f***ing stupid. Such a childish act for a person of means to commit.
Goodbye, Denard. Best of luck in your future ventures.

Not so fast.
Denard has a ton of street cred.
Get him some help then reassess.
eh, no
i don't think it works that way. I'm saddened by this news as working as part of the Michigan team was an opportunity that might not come again sometime soon.
Perhaps Moore will show some pity and get him help but I would guess he is likely gone.
He had his “one time “ when he did this with the Jags … i personally dont think you should get a second chance on something like drunk driving. Take the license away PERMANENTLY , with ZERO chance of gettin it back !
Yeah, I agree with this, as much as my heart goes out to problem drinkers. But also, cars should not turn on if the person in the driver's seat is drunk. The technology exists and I hope it's only a matter of time before it's as universal as seatbelts and airbags.

The case to have them in all cars is highly convincing, and it's coming, potentially as soon as 2026. Of course, things could change before then....

No, the technology does not exist. This silly device would have no way of differentiating between a drunk driver and a drunk passenger. It’s dumb and impractical.
I think a breathalyzer would work reasonably well, but only if paired with a camera and seat sensor. I think that’s been part of the discussion for this concept, although I admit I haven’t been following the conversation closely.
The idea being: driver sits in driver seat, a camera/motion sensor kicks on as driver blows into device for a reading. If driver gets out of the driver seat, the seat and motion sensor will detect it and the vehicle will turn off (or at least not be capable of shifting out of park). Tampering with the mechanism would also theoretically carry criminal charges and imbue any subsequent criminal action attributable to DWI with “knowledge” or “intent”, versus recklessness or negligence.
Denard really screwed up here, and I’m thankful he didn’t injure himself or others.

Congratulations. You invented something that already exists. It’s called an Ignition Interlock Device.
Please don’t tell me you think every person needs to have one in every car. Good Lord, the nanny state is here.
I'm really torn about this one. I hate cancel culture and zero tolerance, but Denard had another chance and the precedent has been set with Scruggs. OTOH, he is part of the Michigan family, and families rally around and support their own with tough love. I can see a path to atonement (probably a bike or pedestrian path) with an end result that is better than just tossing someone aside.
I think there can fairly be different standards set for on-field coaches vs. Denard’s position, but second offenses are not good in any case.
It sounds like no one was hurt including himself. I have not heard of him having any issues like this in the past. I hope he gets whatever help he needs and gets back on his feet.
Except for the time he crashed his car in a pond in Florida
He wasn't intoxicated with that one ---- but it was still pretty bizarre.
He and his companion were literally found sleeping in a car that was partially submerged (and sinking further) in a pond (after someone else called 911).
The officers start knocking on the windows, his companion acknowledges the officers but then ignores them and falls BACK asleep. The officers finally have to remove her from the car by force, then woke Denard up and he left (willingly).
He wasn't intoxicated with that one ---- but it was still pretty bizarre
Yeah, he was on SOMETHING. As the rest of your comments indicate.
He wasn’t intoxicated on life I’ll tell you that
Good thing the gators didn't get him.
The alligator was confused. One minute, he's just chilling and sleeping. The next, there's "prospective food" being delivered to him inside an impenetrable 2-ton metal box that also has very bright lights.
And then the gator realizes it is Shoelace and thinks "ah, shit, I can't catch this dude". It may have been a Gator, or it may even have been a Figthing, or a Hoosier, or a Hokie.
Yeah there’s no way you can read that course of events and believe he wasn’t intoxicated. Whether he was charged or not, there’s zero chance they were sober.
Right... definitely not intoxicated.
I blame Jack Klompas for that one
Ah, crap. IIRC, he had some sort of alcohol-related incident during his time with the Jaguars, too.
Say it ain't so, Shoelace.
He was found to be not impaired by the officer on the seen and was not charged.
Let’s hope this is under the limit and a fender bender. Cause otherwise he’s probably gone.
And that officer was later reprimanded by the department for a poor investigation, I think. Not sure.
Yeah - totally normal for a full-grown man and a “companion” to be found passed out in a car slowly sinking in a body of water… nothing to see here
Well it was Florida after all
There is no point in re-litigating that incident from 8 years ago. Moore's personnel decision about Denard's future needs to rest on the facts of this case.
Goddamn it Denard.
There's few people I love more than him, but getting another DUI is stupid and dangerous.
Why Denard why?
So fucking dumb.
Damn it! Just take an Uber. Much cheaper and safer.
Forget Uber. This is Denard Robinson, in Ann Arbor. The first sober Michigan fan he found would have driven him home, no questions asked. Hell, I'd have flown up to Detroit, rented a car, and gone to pick him up.
He doesn't owe anything to me, or to the fanbase. But he's got a family... a family that he's just let down in a very serious way. I'm beyond sad for them.
I admittedly was thinking this very thing when I read the story.
Any one of us would have demanded he get in the car and taken him home without any complaint, but it isn't to us that he must now answer.
If he would have thrown up in my car I would ask that he pay for the detailing but I would take him again if asked.
Everyone has a story and this demon runs deep. Hopefully he sees all the love through the judgement.
If he had thrown up in my car, I wouldn't ever clean it up. I'd leave it as a badge of honor.
Not really, but the point is, he has no excuse for not getting an uber or letting a fan drive him.
Is there a call a fan line? Or is he supposed to simply go out in the street and hail a fan?

Maybe the Autograph app can add "save a drunk UofM coach" as a feature.
In A2?? ANY person he asked would've gladly helped and if that said person somehow didn't know who Denard MF "Shoelaces Flappin in the wind" Robinson is then the person next to him/her would gladly have done it.
How many of the kids (adults, really) attending classes at UM today could recognize who DRob is, understand his importance to the football program, and decide to offer such a ride in the few seconds they'd see him stumbling through a parking lot?
I'd say precious few. And when considering the times we live in today, where you're as likely to be assaulted as taken up on an offer of help, even fewer would offer.
But if he asked for help - either a ride or an Uber call - I don't doubt for a second that he would have immediately received such help.

Who's sober in Ann Arbor out on the streets 3AM on a Monday being up drunk strangers?
April 16th, 2024 at 12:33 PM ^
21-year-olds today were 8 in 2011. I suspect many of them pretended to be Denard Robinson in the backyard.
You're right that he probably would have needed to ask, though. I don't generally recommend trying to place yourself in harm's way around an inebriated stranger, famous or otherwise.
As a current junior I can assure you that a really really significant proportion of the student body, including myself, grew up with Denard as the lone bright spot in an otherwise tormenting Michigan Football adolescence. Just as Redux said, I grew up pretending to be Denard in my backyard

Geez, can you imagine giving drunk (or even tipsy) Denard Robinson a ride? I'd take the long way just to keep him talking and hear more stories.
Another one bites the dust. WTF is wrong with these guys?
