Interview with OC Campbell and evaluating QBs in the spring
Some welcome non-bball content. Has some positive things about Orji’s development as a passer:
Is that you, Steve Jobs?
If Orgi can get to 56-58% he is the starter.
I’m torn. Orji/Denegal have the higher ceilings, but it would be funnier to watch OSU fans rationalize how they lost to Jack Tuttle.

I haven't heard anything suggesting Denegal is a P5 level QB. It may have been Sam a few weeks ago but even scouts/coaches from his area in Cali were confused when Michigan offered him. I wouldn't expect him to compete for the job.

Origi is a special athlete, but that means nothing if you don’t have arm talent, can read defenses, are accurate, can be a great leader, can protect the football and be efficient with the football.
So far Origi has shown not one ounce of evidence he can do this. I hope he becomes a special QB.
You just described every QB on our roster. At least he has the special athlete going for him.
You are unfortunately correct. That is why I believe Campbell didn’t definitively say “No. We will not be taking another QB from the portal. Period”.
March 16th, 2024 at 12:11 PM ^
Well yeah, Origi is more known for using his feet, head, and really anything but the arms/hands over in Europe
What is with this Origi business? His name is Orji.
And hasn’t shown that he can’t. I don’t get writing someone off you haven’t saw play since he was a high school teenager? If he’s a slightly better passer than Bama ran out against us, I like our chances.
2021 Michigan.
Tuttle or Denegal is McNamara.
Orji is true freshman JJ McCarthy. Primarily used in the run game, but threw enough to keep you honest, the occasional..."no, no, no...yes, yes, yes!" wow moment.
OP, nothing personal, but I detest "Apple News" links. Apple has plenty of money.
I think this is the source:
Not only that but unless you're on an iPhone or iPad you can't use it.
Thanks. That link worked great. This will be an interesting story going forward. Lot's of competition.
In fairness most media outlets and corporations have plenty of money…
With the exception of Sports Illustrated.
Ouch

I remember when they published a weekly magazine that I couldn't wait to read when I got home from school.
"Media outlets" as a category are poverty compared to Apple.
That’s how I feel about all the posts that are nothing but a Twitter embed.
I guess we'll just have to take your word for it.
Can you please not post apple news links? Ay dios...
Orji- Michigan QB
Orgi - not a Michigan QB
Thanks
cOrgi—not a human.
Can you have an Orgi in the end zone?
Orgy?
yep and in the endzone!

Mmmm content. Tasty
An Apple news link? C'mon
Orji > Sorji
you look at orgi and you see how well he could mimic bama's QB milroe in the run-up to the rose bowl. the kid is a specimen. if he can get through the progressions and make wise decisions, how could you not love a QB like that?
Make it super simple:
Read 1 - RPO
Read 2 - (assuming a keep) #1 receiving option
Read 3 - #1 receiving option not open, run
As the season goes on you can give him more reads in the passing game but I think above would be more than enough to get us to Columbus at 9-2 or so.
Even keeping it simple, it requires him to make the right decisions consistently. You’re cutting down on the number of reads, but not necessarily the difficulty level of those reads.
The much bigger issue though, is whether or not he has the arm to execute in the passing game. Making the right read is only half the battle.
By “arm” I assume you mean does he have the “touch”? By all accounts the guy has a cannon. The question remains as to whether he can vary the velocity on his passes appropriately, whether he can throw a “catchable” ball.
Arm refers to the whole package. Strength, touch, accuracy.
Having a cannon is completely irrelevant if you can’t hit the broad side of a barn (what we’ve seen of him, he struggles in this area). The ability to throw a rocket is irrelevant if you’re throwing 100mph on a slant route the receiver can’t catch.
Orji has a good grip on the deep ball.
Apple News?
So the article said the pecking order is age followed by alphabetical order when there is a tie. Do Denegal and Orji have the same birthday? That’s crazy if true.
it’s like that old stats thing where if you have 30 people in a room the odds are really high that two will have the same birthday.
I hope one of these guys take a huge step forward.

I’m worried that Orji is Milton v2.
March 15th, 2024 at 11:23 PM ^
I don’t see the comparative concern here. milton had an amazing arm and couldn’t complete passes in high school. He was the quintessential “reign in the cannon and you may just got something” project.
Orji has been called the best athlete on a team filled with great athletes. He’s already shown his running ability. He wasn’t able to show off much in the way of arm talent as they had him running gadget playing the midst of a title run. If he is Wilton Speight but fast we got something going here. And if he’s not you have an incredibly experienced B1G backup, a guy who may actually be Wilton Speight in Denegal, and a highly touted true Freshman whose hallmark was reading defenses and completing an insane percentage of his passes. Chillax my dude. This team isn’t going to need to lean on a QB to win many games next year. The Defense and Edwards/Mullings will take care of most of the teams they face.
Wilton Speight quarterbacking this team would be another serious run at the National Championship - including a bye in the first round of the playoff. Wilton Speight but fast? That's not a 'serious run at the National Championship', its a win.
I'll take it.

Milton was not the runner that Orji is
March 16th, 2024 at 12:34 AM ^
Harbaugh loved Orji. That's enough for me to get on board if he's deemed starter.
I hear Jeremy Bonderman’s Chang up has been looking good too
That last paragraph tells me that if the right QB is in the portal, we'll make a play for him.
That being said, the only thing I really care about is that one QB stands out enough to lay claim to QB1. Team 145 needs to get to 2021-level QB play, at least.
