Sherrone Moore to be guest at State of the Union
Invited as personal guest of Debbie Dingell:
https://debbiedingell.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=4935
One can discuss about motivations, politics etc. behind the invite, but regardless - what an honor for the new young coach and very happy for him.
Moore is a national championship coach - that’s fantastic that he is being honored!
I love the shit out of our coach, man
Well, I guess I have a reason to watch now.
And at least coach will get a good workout, with all the sitting, standing, sitting, standing...
She should have invited Brady Hoke. He has experience in clapping.
He can also withhold the clapping when appropriate, so he'd be a perfect fit.
But can Hoke can hear policy?
But is he aware but not fully aware?
Weeellll.
Hoke clapping was a thing.
I assumed this was a highly anticipated event. People will be watching it like a NASCAR race.
Is this a Catholic ceremony?
Nah, Catholics go for the total lower body workout: kneel, sit, stand, kneel, sit, stand... It's kind of like doing burpees, but without the pushups.
(Source: 6 years of Catholic school).
Stand, sit, stand, sit, stand, kneel, stand, kneel, kneel, sit, stand, leave.
Sounds like a sesh with the Mrs. But to be honest im tired of being bossed around.
12 for me. I am still working on the credits from going to mass daily.
Ha! I used up all my credits years ago. Got any extra to help a brother out?
Lol! How about mgo points instead, I just gave you 2.
That's cool. At least 49%, but no more than 51% of the audience will be happy to see him.
you both underrate how much people hate Ohio AND underrate how much people hate Michigan, which makes these percentages properly rated
I think that's great. Our ex-HC wasnt afraid to make his personal convictions known publicly and neither should Sherrone. Different sides of the isle, so to speak, but that's fine.
When you consider just how few people outside of our elected officials get to see that live it really is an amazing honor.
Yeah i dont care who invited me politically, I'd go - it'd be amazing to see in person. And love or hate the current president, he's the current president and the SOTU is (at least supposedly) an important part of our democracy and governance.
Jim Harbaugh was a personal guest of Michelle Obama at the State of the Union in one of his early years at Michigan.
He is a close friend of the Obamas and has worked with Michelle on several initiatives. So I am not sure that he is on a different side of the isle than Sherrone (or if either of them are on any particular side).
I think Harbaugh has strong views on particular subjects and doesn't care which "party" that makes happy as it doesn't fit neatly in the left-right spectrum that has been artificially crafted for the American public. As if all of us are so brain dead that politicians and other political quacks tell us what view we are supposed to have on the various issues.
Harbaugh's politics are genuinely unique, and he absolutely does not fit into the red/blue binary.
Correct, he is simultaneously very liberal on some issues and very conservative on others.
As a more general matter, it is unfortunate that our binary political system often forces us to choose the "less bad" option, since so much of the country doesn't fit neatly in either of the two political boxes...
how did you get this video embed to work? asking for a friend
1) in a separate browser window, go to YouTube, to the video you wish to embed
2) click "Share" just to the lower right of video
3) click first choice, "embed"
4) in lower right of the Embed Video window, click "copy" (there is also a choice to have the video clip start at a specific time, it seems to work intermittently)
5) go back to MGoBlog browser window, click on "Reply" button in MGoBlog topic (if you haven't already done so)
6) click on "Source" along top of reply window, to the right
7) click within reply window, then "Command V" to paste in Mac (or equivalent in Windows)
8) click on "Source" again; at this point you can add additional text before and/or after video
9) click on "Save" button lower left (recommend NOT using Preview)
10) you may need to reload the page after all of this to see your video properly
11) PROFIT! NIL! PORTAL! ETC.!
Right!!! Been saying this for years. I kept hearing Harbaugh was "targeted by the media and the NCAA" because he was conservative and pro-life. Didn't matter that he's friends with the Obamas and was supportive of Hillary Clinton in 2016.
The guy truly marches to the beat of his own drum, for good or bad.
I believe he has a gay son who he fully accepts. He is also Catholic and very vocal about his love for God and the baby Jesus.
Harbaugh is like just about every person in the US: complex and nuanced. But the body politic requires us to pick a side and staunchly support it without scrutiny.
Like every person period...complex and nuanced is the human condition.
The guy truly marches to the beat of his own drum, for good or bad.
I think this is being overstated a bit. Harbaugh is very Catholic and that shows in his politics. Catholic priorities just happen to be split between the parties. I’ve known a lot of Catholics who are very similar to Harbaugh politically.
he definitely goes blue...*ducks*
and even Hoke wouldn't be caught dead wearing red....*taking cover flat to the ground*
A lot of people don't.
If you watch cable news or listen to political radio - you are told over and over again what you are supposed to believe.
Unfortunately, I would guess that 70% of the general public follow the party lines hook, line and sinker.
I don't, so that helps.
Disagree
most folks are in the middle but the fringes figured out the candidates are determined in the primaries.
Large majorities oppose Biden and Trump. But the more fanatic/extreme sides of each spectrum turn out in primaries. Rs are afraid of Trump endorsing an opponent and Ds are afraid of the same from the Squad. Sinema voted with Biden 90%+ of the time but left the party for the grief she was getting from progressives.
Please. Sinema left for a lucrative position with a hedge fund, which she's been a tool of for years. Just wait--it'll happen.
More people fall into this category than most realize.
No no no no! You must pick a side and hate the other side without question. The political overlords that control your party are infallible, and the other side is evil. But rest assured, you won't have to lift a finger because we will tell you how to think. Now bow to your master!!
OK. I pick Michigan and I hate Ohio State. (Did I do it right?)
PS: And I will NEVER bow! I will, however, welcome our new insect overlords.
It isn't a particularly good idea for a football coach to take a side but honorable that they have a sense of civic duty.
Harbaugh also went to Hillary Clinton's rally in Ann Arbor in 2016. I remember it because Obama gave him a shoutout during his speech for being 9-0 right before we got Kinnicked by Iowa's punter.
He's personally staunchly opposed to abortion which is why people may think he's aligned with certain people about everything, but as you said, in usual Harbaugh fashion, he sticks to his values on specific topics and doesn't care about being labeled into one category or another.
As most have said he is mostly a human rights based liberal. But even his religious based opposition to abortion doesn’t include banning it. There are plenty of people who are against abortion but believe in a woman’s right to choose. I believe Harbaugh may be in that camp. And there are plenty of people who attend church every Sunday who are left politically and who are more religious than people who claim to be religious on the right. So it is always surprising when people want to pigeon hole someone like Harbaugh as a conservative just because he wears his belief in god on his sleeve.
Crazy thought: so what if he is actually a conservative? Would you dislike him if he was?
You can dislike his politics without disliking him.
Why do you have a need to label people as one or the other? That’s one of the problems being discussed here. Just the suggestion that if someone is labeled a conservative, or liberal, they would be disliked IS the problem. In my experience, when you can get past the labels and the bs and talk about real issues, people find a lot of common ground. When solutions to those issues are turned into misleading fear-triggering soundbites thats also a problem.
Agreed with your entire post! It just sounded like from your other post (and several others) that you were trying to shoehorn him into the liberal camp or rationalize his conservative beliefs by highlighting his liberal beliefs. If I misread you, my apologies.
With that, there are several posters on this thread that highlight his pro-life stance by saying "but but but, he hangs with the Obama's and Clinton's". It's like people don't want him to be conservative. If I was to make a guess, I would say that Harbaugh leans right and is a moderate conservative. And if so, I say so what?!
Politically, Jim doesn't fit neatly into any category. He has some views that align with those of the left (Colin Kaepernick and certain racial issues) and some views that align with those of the right (abortion). He's done things that rankled people on the left (speaking at pro-life rallies) and he's done things that rankled people on the right (participating in a Black Lives Matter protest). He's a bit of an enigma.
