OT: Former msu player Max Bullough expected to become LB coach at ND
FYI - not that it really matters, but I found it a little surprising. Wasn't he the one that had been using PEDs to the point that no NFL was interested (or was that another of the O'Doyle Rules... I mean Bullough, clan)?

🤔
How is this relevant?
February 11th, 2024 at 1:57 PM ^
Hence "OT".
But also curious to see how players from college teams we've seen play move up the coaching ranks.
February 11th, 2024 at 2:02 PM ^
Well, it's not a "Fire Warde" thread, so it's got that goin' for it.
February 11th, 2024 at 2:07 PM ^
Relevant that it's another college coach wanting to get out of the college coaching arena for the NFL where he can have a life. Key point, he turned down a pay raise that ND offered him.

Fire Ward?
February 11th, 2024 at 4:20 PM ^
Fire Warde. Please.
February 11th, 2024 at 3:22 PM ^
O'Leary is going to the Chargers, btw.
February 11th, 2024 at 4:24 PM ^
Interesting, but my view is that this is relevant to Sparty and ND.
February 11th, 2024 at 5:02 PM ^
Also the NFL not wanting someone cuz of PEDs? That's laughable.

My uncle had prostate surgery.

Daisy Duke is sexy.
February 11th, 2024 at 2:03 PM ^
max's grandfather played at ND. max's dad shane, a good dude, played for sparty, too.
February 11th, 2024 at 2:13 PM ^
I should clarify that I don't want to disparage this guy/kid if he did use PEDs... I just recall there was a lot of discussion about one of the Bulloughs (maybe him) using it enough that it prevented real NFL interest.
I may have misremembered the discussion and, if this is wrong, then mods please delete this post (or that part).
I'll stand by the O'Doyle Rules part.
February 11th, 2024 at 2:18 PM ^
the PED story has legs for a reason.
February 11th, 2024 at 4:52 PM ^
He came in something like 30 pounds lighter into the combine than he played at during the season, then wasn't drafted. Like unrestrained pass interference on almost every play by Sparty's "no fly zone", I thought PEDs were part of Dantonio's secret sauce for success.

If there were a drug that made me better at my job and that job paid millions I would go full Barry Bonds in a heartbeat
February 11th, 2024 at 3:02 PM ^
Even if you were already an elite performer at that job? And if it caused weird side effects like your head and feet growing?
February 11th, 2024 at 3:44 PM ^
What other body parts might grow? Asking for a friend.
February 11th, 2024 at 4:34 PM ^
Little toe?
February 11th, 2024 at 4:54 PM ^
I think it shrunk some of those other body parts or at least that is what the science would say.
February 11th, 2024 at 4:52 PM ^
I'm already like 99-plus percentile head size. If it got any bigger I would just topple over.

He did end up on the Texans as an UDFA, and tested positive in 2017 before being released for the last time.
I had to look that up though, as far as I remembered his career ended with the Rose Bowl suspension. I don't remember seeing an official-ish reason for his suspension, but PED's was the rumor and he later got popped for it in the NFL so it seems like a safe assumption at this point. Felt like a really weird story at the time (the Rose Bowl suspension), very little official reporting on it.

I was in school at the time and, like most Michiganders, had plenty of HS friends that went to State. I don’t remember seeing anything official at the time either, but the guys I knew at MSU all said the campus knew it was steroids
February 11th, 2024 at 4:02 PM ^
there was no "official" reason given. "personal reasons" was given because the reliable sources I have on this particular topic all point to his dad was the one to suspend him after he tested positive at home over christmas break (i assume dad caught wind and had him tested privately), the university wanted him to play because he hadn't failed a sanctioned test for them/ncaa, but his dad said no. even made him pay for his own trip to watch them in the rose bowl.
good for his dad for trying to teach him a lesson on accountability, while also trying to keep him out of potential trouble that would impact his future. had to have been a difficult decision on what to do with it.
apparently, he didnt learn that lesson, as he was booted from the NFL for testing positive.

Man it's almost like that guy is a massive tool who's unwilling to accept consequences or consider how they could affect his teammates. Definitely someone I'd want as a coach and role model.

Holy crap! That is one loooong sentence!
February 11th, 2024 at 5:42 PM ^
Shane did not suspend Max. Max got into it with a friend of his couple nights before the Rose Bowl and was absolutely out of his mind. Lets call that “rumor”, a friend had to be seen by a doctor. I am editing details.

Who f’ing cares? Would rather discuss dogs’ anal glands with Keith Jackson.
February 11th, 2024 at 2:26 PM ^
Looks like the Bullough magic vitamins are now out of his system.
February 11th, 2024 at 2:47 PM ^
he's going to teach the ND players the proper way to get into a bar brawl in Colorado and how to beat up kids in the dorm rooms

The Puppy Bowl is on now!!

Don’t be surprised when the Notre Dame linebackers put on 20 lbs of muscle in 3 months. Nothing to look at here.
February 11th, 2024 at 3:15 PM ^
they should hire Tony Mandarich to coach OL
February 11th, 2024 at 5:43 PM ^
And the baseball team hires Barry Bonds as hitting coache?
February 11th, 2024 at 3:22 PM ^
Huh. Didn’t I see that ND got a commitment from Plaxico Burress’s kid? They must have a kink for Shady Spartans.
February 11th, 2024 at 3:33 PM ^
I aggressively have no feelings at all about this.
February 11th, 2024 at 3:43 PM ^

Tell me more things I don't give a shit about.

February 11th, 2024 at 11:53 PM ^
Spartan fan here. I heard bar fight, I heard third offense, but I never heard PEDs. Not to say it couldn't have happened. Just sayin it wasn't the talk at the time.
