Oh shit! I had no idea he was even sick... He had some really good songs, but I haven't listened to country music in some time now so didn't realize he had stopped performing. Hope his family can find some rest. RIP, Toby...
BTW, Fuck cancer to hell.
February 6th, 2024 at 8:44 AM ^
I was thinking the same thing, I didn't realize he was ill. I'm not a country music fan, but may he rest in peace.
Edit: Obligatory FUCK CANCER
February 6th, 2024 at 9:29 AM ^
I couldn't tell you any Toby Keith songs, but I agree F cancer. Good friend is 34 and found out he has brain cancer two years ago. He has a 4 year old and a 2 year old. He's probably going to die in the next few months. He and his wife have been together since they were 14. It is bad enough that he's going to die and leave his wife a widow with two young children, but the medical bills are going to leave them bankrupt. Having to choose between maybe 6 months to 2 years more of life with crippling debt and massive debt and death is awful.

The only one I know is "I'll never smoke weed with Willie again".
February 6th, 2024 at 1:04 PM ^
"In the fetal position with drool on our chin, we broke down and smoked weed with Willie again."
The first live performance with Willie on stage is a solid watch...
RIP Toby Keith
*Shoutout to Willie...that old outlaw turns 91 this year!

Obviously, everyone's battle with cancer is different and I don't know any details, but if it helps, my dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor at 38 and lived another 15 years. Hope that's the case for your friend and his family.
But yes, fuck cancer.
February 6th, 2024 at 12:12 PM ^
My heart goes out to your friend and his family. Not sure what this is worth as countless conditions apply, but when my father passed away after a significant amount of time in the ICU, under Michigan law at that time his debt essentially passed along with him as at his death all of his "possessions" became my mother's and they could not be touched. It is likely worth looking into for your friend.

Respectfully tell them to divorce if they would be bankrupt. She will not be responsible for his medical debt if it was only in his name.
Am I wrong?
February 6th, 2024 at 2:02 PM ^
Sorry to hear this. Is there any GoFundMe for them?
February 6th, 2024 at 10:09 AM ^
Wow, it's crazy I was thinking of one of his songs yesterday, 'Should have been a Cowboy', too. Been watching 'Justified' as of late.
RIP Toby
Fuck Cancer

Should’ve Been a Cowboy is a great song. Always liked Toby. We all depart this earth one way or another with a destination.
February 6th, 2024 at 12:52 PM ^
What a life he had. All of his bills are paid.
February 6th, 2024 at 3:43 PM ^
"Should’ve Been a Cowboy" was his 1st big hit. It was the song that got him noticed on the entertainment scene...It's a great song. He has a boat load of great songs too.

Should've been a cowboy.

Wow, gone way too early. I heard he'd been sick but this is still surprising. Last I'd heard he was doing better and was planning to tour again.
February 6th, 2024 at 6:18 AM ^
RIP. His songs in the 90s were stellar.
February 6th, 2024 at 7:30 AM ^
I was just a wee lad when he started releasing music. Him, Tracy Lawrence and Mark Chesnutt were the pillars that drove me to country over any other genre as a kid.
I forgot how many great songs he had.
February 6th, 2024 at 9:30 AM ^
Ya. His greatest hits album wasn't half full of songs I hadn't heard like some of those. I liked "Country Comes to Town".
February 6th, 2024 at 9:36 AM ^
I’d add in Joe Diffie (John deer green) as well as some Allan Jackson. No one could ever be Jimmie Buffett but Kenney Chesney is trying his hardest. I was in key west last fall when Chesney walked into sloppy joes unannounced and ripped off an acoustical performance. George Strait will always be the king. Yes, I like country music!

Horrible way to go. Prolly my number one fear with all my GI issues. I shoulda learned to rope n ride.

No fear Brother. Dont let the culture/world get a grip on you. We are a vapor.

I'm admittedly not a country fan, but the man had some pipes

“We’ll put a boot in your ass it’s the American way”!!! I feel like I lost a part of my somewhat younger years yesterday. Rest in piece to a true American icon. I swear he wrote “made in America” about my grandad and knew my wife came from a very religious background when he came out with “god love her”, Even at 50 that song is still ours. Who doesn’t hum about a red solo cup at a tailgate? This one hits hard!
February 6th, 2024 at 7:00 AM ^
RIP Toby. One of my favorite 90's country singers.
February 6th, 2024 at 7:06 AM ^
did not know his background. respect for working in the oil patch, fairly serious about football including trying out for the USFL, and 40 yrs of marriage.
February 6th, 2024 at 9:38 AM ^
I believe he was a Sooners fan? Good folks in Oklahoma. Very Midwest nice people.
February 6th, 2024 at 9:48 AM ^
Ever since Oklahoma beat Ohio in the toilet bowl, and Baker Mayfield planted the sooner flag right in the middle of the scarlet and gray sphincter in the middle of the field, I’ve been an Oklahoma fan!
February 6th, 2024 at 7:10 AM ^
RIP Toby a true American.

RIP Toby Keith, prayers to your friends and family.
February 6th, 2024 at 7:42 AM ^
62. Way too early. RIP.
February 6th, 2024 at 7:49 AM ^
Toby Keith was an entire vibe at the turn of the century. I miss those days.
February 6th, 2024 at 9:33 AM ^
Yeah. That's how I remember it. Dude was on it then.
February 6th, 2024 at 7:50 AM ^
I couldn’t believe he had gotten to 62. I don’t know if It makes any sense but he was one of those guys that in my mind was just always 40 years old.
Miley Cyrus is 12, Tswift is 19, Morgan Freeman is 65… I don’t make the rules; that’s just how it works.
February 6th, 2024 at 8:35 AM ^
Corollary: how long ago was that? I double my first thought which is just a little long on the right answer.
February 6th, 2024 at 12:00 PM ^
How old is Keith Jackson in your world?
February 6th, 2024 at 12:24 PM ^
Hmmm… about 58.
Haven’t seen him in a while, come to think of it. Wonder what he’s up to…
February 6th, 2024 at 8:01 AM ^
Did he and the Dixie chicks ever make up?
February 6th, 2024 at 8:15 AM ^
Not familiar with any reconciliation there.
February 6th, 2024 at 8:56 AM ^
His wiki said something about years later, saying he had passed that, words to the effect of. “way more important things to worry about “.
February 6th, 2024 at 10:34 AM ^
i heard they were not ready to make nice
February 6th, 2024 at 8:05 AM ^
I sadly had no idea he was ill (not one part of me has ever been a country fan admittedly), but even so, 62 is far too young in these times and cancer is simply an evil disease indeed. RIP.
February 6th, 2024 at 8:19 AM ^
As I get older, the lines, "I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was," gets stuck in my head more and more...
God bless, Toby.
February 6th, 2024 at 9:34 AM ^
Another good one.
Dave...
February 6th, 2024 at 12:51 PM ^
I’m with ya. Now I think about how bad that shits gonna hurt tomorrow before I do it today. I was a catcher growing up and caught for my oldest who was well into the 90s. I still have a 17 yr old who’s 8 years younger than his brother. I caught a bullpen for him last night and quit after a dozen pitches. He doesn’t throw anywhere near as hard as his bro, but the years have slowed my reaction time and destroyed my ability to see the ball leave his hand. I’m gonna be switching to orange golf balls this year. Hell, maybe pink. At my age there’s no shame.
February 6th, 2024 at 3:15 PM ^
Most of his songs are not my jam. That, however, is a tune.
February 6th, 2024 at 8:35 AM ^
Fuck! I was hoping he was doing alright and I wanted to see him live. RIP boss
February 6th, 2024 at 9:00 AM ^
Seems like yesterday I was at Whiskey Park in Tampa and they’d always play “I love this bar”. Seemed like a genuinely nice guy and you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone who gave back more to our men and women in uniform.
RIP Toby

R.I.P. Toby Keith
February 6th, 2024 at 9:24 AM ^
Just so hard to pick his most touching verse. These feel like a pretty good sampling though.
"So we prayed to Allah with all of our might
Until those big U.S. jets came flyin' one night
They dropped little bombs all over their holy land
Man, you should have seen 'em run, like rabbits, they ran"
"Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas find a tall oak tree
Round up all them bad boys, hang them high in the street
For all the people to see"
