Quinten Johnson declares for draft
Well, I don't usually like to go all Ezekiel Creatures on you guys but Quinten Johnson has declared for the draft. I thought the deadline had expired but what do I know?
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:01 PM ^
Odd timing.
February 2nd, 2024 at 7:53 PM ^
Was maybe waiting for Moore to pick a DC and/or safeties coach before deciding? It's possible the team already knows who's going to pick up those roles.
February 2nd, 2024 at 8:45 PM ^
Also, we really can't know who all are giving kids advice and when.
On the bright side, this increases odds of setting the draftees record.
February 3rd, 2024 at 7:52 AM ^
Maybe he's just tired of school and he is just entering the draft to give it a shot and he has a backup plan lined up.
Who the heck knows...it could be anything.
February 3rd, 2024 at 3:42 PM ^
Lots of guys get picked up as UDFA & go on to longer careers than late round draft picks - because they can choose the best situation for themselves.
My prediction for QJo is his agent has an in with a particular team that has told him they'll sign him if he's not drafted.
Interesting SB related story - that's how the Niners decided to draft Brock Purdy as Mr. Irrelevant. He was tracking towards not getting drafted & his agent called the Niners saying he had an offer from the Vikings to sign him as an UDFA. The agent (obviously having very little respect for Jimmy G or Trey Lance) thought the Shanahan offense was the perfect fit for Brock. He encouraged them to take him with their last pick. The rest is history!
February 3rd, 2024 at 4:08 PM ^
Exactly, he came in in 2019, the kid has already been at Michigan for 5 years and would be a 6th year if he'd come back. That's a lot of time in college and most people are ready to get on to their next chapter by that time.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:01 PM ^
Gonna miss him but with Moore and Paige returning and Sabb coming on in bowl season, it’s good to get younger guys like Berry and Hillman snaps or they portal out.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:07 PM ^
I feel the same way, but why the fuck does this never apply to OSU? They add Howard and that bama kid and that doesn't lead to any QB transfers besides McCord. They add Judkins and keep Henderson and I haven't heard any rumblings of their younger 5 star RBs transferring. Didn't Dallan Hayden get snaps in 2022 and now he's totally fine sitting as the RB3 as a former 5-star prospect true junior? Like wtf is that about?
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:08 PM ^
The OSU that lost their last three to UofM, you mean?
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:13 PM ^
Because on top of getting paid, a lot of their guys are coming back specifically to beat Michigan, win the Big Ten and potentially a NC.
February 3rd, 2024 at 1:44 PM ^
They do that every year. We beat the future NFL rookie of the year QB twice, there's no amount of 5* talent that's going to beat us until they can outwork us.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:14 PM ^
We just had a season where multiple people who could have been drafted decided to return for one last shot and we got a title out of it. What are you even talking about that this never applies to OSU? It's pretty clear that they dropped an absolute monster amount of cash because they mentally couldn't handle us winning a title.
OSU added 2 QB's AFTER the deadline to enter the portal had passed. One if not more of them, are going to portal out when the spring transfer window opens. Either way it doesn't matter because it's QB and the best one is going to be the one playing regardless.
February 3rd, 2024 at 11:15 AM ^
It’s pretty fun to think about them being mentally incapable of seeing us win the NC: clenched fists…..squinting eyes….teeth grit…..jaw bulging ….. and the little guttural noise coming from the backs of their throats, a kind of whining tone that says “how can this be happening!?!?”
Oh it just makes me so happy.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:25 PM ^
They’re doing literally the same thing Keegan, Corum, Zinter, and Jenkins did last year.
One last shot at winning it all. OSU is going all in, because they are going to lose A LOT of guys next year. JTT, Sawyer, Burke, Egbuka, Henderson, probably some guys on their OL who I can’t name, and then at least one, probably two QBs who realize they’re not getting the job. Sayin and Noland are non factors next year, and by 2025 one of them will not be on the roster. So there will Be attrition on the roster.
I hate their guts, but I respect them going all in for one last shot.
I’m not going to commend Michigan players for coming back and then shit on OSU players who come back for the exact same reason.
February 2nd, 2024 at 7:40 PM ^
Yes, OSU is going all-in to replicate Team 144. But it takes a lot to make all the pieces fall into place. May they stumble somewhere along the way.
February 2nd, 2024 at 8:07 PM ^
Yeah....on November 30, 2024.
February 3rd, 2024 at 3:20 PM ^
Welp - I am!
Fuck em!
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:32 PM ^
Pretty sure Howard committed after the portal closed, and Sayin DEFINITELY committed after the portal closed. So OSU’s QBs couldn’t enter the portal even if they wanted to.
February 3rd, 2024 at 3:27 PM ^
Howard is a grad transfer, think they have different clocks.
Sayin's coach left the program, giving him (and all Michigan players as well) a 30-day window to explore other options.
But look objectively at Sayin leaving the now DeBoer-led Bama for the Day offense. We talking cash money! DeBoer is gonna put guys in the league!
Stroud has made Day look better by extension, but would you just objectively look at DeBoer's success across multiple stops & think to yourself "I gotta get outta here!"??
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:48 PM ^
besides McCord
... you mean their starting QB? Kind of a big one.
Also, there's another portal window. Not saying transfers are guaranteed, but guys will have a better idea of their depth chart status in the spring.
February 2nd, 2024 at 7:05 PM ^
"...except for McCord."
That one's going to hurt most. Get ready!
Edit: Oh, the homie above me said the same thing.
February 2nd, 2024 at 8:08 PM ^
Imma get some Syracuse Orange football gear.
February 3rd, 2024 at 3:29 PM ^
Hold off on that purchase 1400!
If you saw McCord's expression during Cuse's bowl performance, he may not even stick around to get any Orangemen gear!
February 2nd, 2024 at 7:25 PM ^
We won't know until the spring portal season who leaves from there. I'd be surprised if at least 1 QB didn't portal out.
February 2nd, 2024 at 7:31 PM ^
Maybe Hayden is just a bust and you don't have to worry about him.
February 2nd, 2024 at 8:30 PM ^
huh? It absolutely applies to OSU. Have you paid attention to the past 3-4 years?
What the fuck are you talking about?
February 2nd, 2024 at 9:08 PM ^
Someone will transfer after spring. Wanna try win job first.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:51 PM ^
It's that 3rd base runner mentality
February 2nd, 2024 at 8:46 PM ^
I rewatched the Bama game last night and Paige really popped on the screen. He was awesome.
The other guy that really stood out on rewatch was Kenny G. He was playing for the last drive of regulation and OT. Jenkins sprinkled in, but KG was the man next to Graham. Having them both next year (along with Moore and Stewart, who were also on the field for the biggest plays at the end) is tantalizing.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:06 PM ^
Huh? Who's giving this kid advice?
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:54 PM ^
He's already 23 and plays in a position group with Moore/Paige/Sabb. Also just made huge plays on the national stage in multiple games. Seems like a sound choice to go now.
February 2nd, 2024 at 9:22 PM ^
He was the last remaining member of the 2019 class who was still a candidate to be on next year's team.
That means there will be no 6th-year players next year (like Barrett and German Green this year). It also means that there's only one more class (2020) where the "COVID" year could possibly be relevant.
February 2nd, 2024 at 8:31 PM ^
Your mom.
February 2nd, 2024 at 8:35 PM ^
Seniors with eligibility remaining that instead decide to move on from college pretty much always "declare for the draft" no matter their prospects.
He has his degree and has been in AA for 5 years already. His stock probably was not going to improve much as a 24 year old 6th year senior even if he got a ton more playing time as he doesn't have ideal NFL physical traits. He almost certainly realizes there is a good chance he goes undrafted. But he is ready to move on in life and will at the very least get invited to training camp somewhere with a shot to make an impression.
Quentin had a really good year. Not the most talented player but still was an underrated key to winning the championship. For a backup he had a knack for making important plays, a few very noticeable ones and a bunch of less noticeable ones.
February 2nd, 2024 at 9:54 PM ^
I suspect he may not have a scholarship guaranteed at this point. Younger better guys have had enough time to prove themselves and even younger guys hungry behind them. Hopefully he gets a look by an NFL team. Not going to try to predict anything. That 2 star throw in (or so we thought) with Denard I just saw play against the Lions a while back. I thought he was just as over-matched and slow.
February 3rd, 2024 at 12:43 AM ^
There is zero chance that he was not offered a scholarship in the NIL era. Scholarship limits essentially don't exist anymore.
February 3rd, 2024 at 2:36 PM ^
That's 100% untrue. There are only 85 scholarships available. NIL can make that moot, because even player 86 earns enough to pay for school anyway, but it still makes you player #86.
If you are a freshman that's not the end of your career, it could just be the beginning. A 6th year senior it's the nudge that tells you it's time to move on. Harbaugh has always made it clear you earn that scholarship after 4.
Now, Q. Johnson has been a good soldier and a good backup. The fumble he caused in the Rose Bowl was a great play. And he's a national champion. But probably time to move on given the young guys like Berry and Sabb.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:08 PM ^
I remember being worried when he was on the field early in the season while all our DBs were out. By the end of the season he was breaking up passes against Ohio State and saving us in the Rose Bowl. He had an amazing season.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:08 PM ^
He may have needed one more year in college. Maybe just transfer somewhere and get 13 more games under his belt. He has good speed and is an excellent tackler. So he could be drafted at some point. At the very least he will get a camp invite somewhere Good luck
February 2nd, 2024 at 8:17 PM ^
I think he is like Gemon Green. He wasn't going to move the needle much if he returned. He is what he is. It is just a question of did he want to play a part time role at Michigan or be a professional now.
Sabb showed out and I am confident in the other guys will be ready along as we have good coaching there.
February 2nd, 2024 at 8:31 PM ^
One more year? He's 23 and been in college for 5 years, how much better is he going to get? lol
February 2nd, 2024 at 10:56 PM ^
The most snaps he’s had in a game in his career is 17 (three times). All I’m saying is he would’ve been off going somewhere else and getting 600 snaps. A ton of 24 year old “covid “ players have been drafted the past couple years. Odds on he won’t be drafted and if he played one more year he was probably 50/50 on being drafted. I really like him as a player. And I want him to be drafted. But he needed more snaps.
February 3rd, 2024 at 11:52 AM ^
Again, that’s not even true. He topped your claim in both of the first two games this year. Not even worth looking into the rest because it’s clear you’re misinformed
February 3rd, 2024 at 3:00 PM ^
i took the stats from a post on this site {player usage) ,Maybe Quintens' most snaps during BIG10 games was 17,during his career .
His updated draft stock is "undrafted" , maybe down vote them too.

February 2nd, 2024 at 6:15 PM ^
Could be wrong, but feels like he's going to have to display some really good measurables to get drafted.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:45 PM ^
He will his Nike sparq scores we’re elite like low 4.4 high 4.3 speed he was an athlete that needed to learn how to play which it appears he did some this season would’ve been good to have him back as a nickel.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:17 PM ^
Already expecting a major setback for 2 years or so. Doesn't seem to matter as much after winning the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:18 PM ^
Just wait until after Spring and they will have some big transfers out IMO. All these 5 stars think they are guaranteed playing time, or were told that. I’d eat a lemon if they all stay by September.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:34 PM ^
Did you ever eat the lemon you promised during The Game?
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:41 PM ^
Never mind, it wasn't you. I didn't realize that was a thing here.
