The 2023 Jake Rudock Memorial Depth Chart
Okay nerds; you asked so I made.
After the conclusion of the 2014 season, Kirk Ferentz put out a post-bowl depth chart exclusively for the purpose of putting transfer risk redshirt sophomore C.J. Beathard ahead of redshirt junior Jake Rudock, who had been starting the shared situation by nature of being the slightly better quarterback. He got the hint and transferred to Michigan; while Beathard kept the Iowa gig another two years.
That's why it says "Jake Rudock Memorial" on the final edition of Michigan's Fee Fi Foe Film graphic. The rest should be self-explanatory, or is explained on the key.
Postseason updates: Barner got a shield, Trente Jones got a star, and I thought about giving one to Mullings as well.
A larger version of the diagram is here. A PDF of this and all of our 2023 opponents is here. There's nothing after the jump.

Next year's offense has a lot of work to do.
January 30th, 2024 at 11:53 PM ^
So does 2024's.
January 31st, 2024 at 10:55 AM ^
Hot take: Mullings will run for more than 1,000 yards and Edwards will have more than 1,000 rushing/receiving.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:09 PM ^
Can you cyan all the returning players just since it worked for Cade
January 30th, 2024 at 4:49 PM ^
+1 underrated
January 30th, 2024 at 2:13 PM ^
Can you do this but for the All Harbaugh team? Could be some more fun work for Seth
January 30th, 2024 at 2:55 PM ^
This would be amazing.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:43 PM ^
That would be fun, and surely will be a fun board topic.
Half the guys are going to come from this team, I’d think. The battle for nickel is crazy: Dax Hill would only be third string. How to you pick between Jabrill Peppers and Mike Sainristil?
January 30th, 2024 at 5:16 PM ^
Jake Butt or Colston Loveland?
2nd corner...David Long, LaVert Hill or Jourdan Lewis.
Edge: Aidan and Gary/Winovich/Ojabo/Uche/probably others
This would be fun!
February 2nd, 2024 at 12:50 AM ^
2nd corner? Who's locked in at 1? Will?
Personally I think Lewis is corner 1. Then Will or Long.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:31 PM ^
He already posted the defense All Harbaugh team. Its posted above. Kidding.
Or am I? I want to see the All Harbaugh team with specific coordinators listed as well. All 10 best Harbaugh coaches. Jay would be 3 of them. Moore would be 2-3 of them.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:20 PM ^
Insert obligitory post season Michigan fan rant: Man, if only we took advantage of (insert starred player name) while he was here, we could've won it all!!
January 30th, 2024 at 2:27 PM ^
Lol, Just got a notification that Roman Wilson tore up in Senior Bowl practice today and literally had that thought.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:22 PM ^
I like the part where it says "2023 National Champions"
January 30th, 2024 at 2:24 PM ^
What's up with Colson's Q-tips?
January 30th, 2024 at 3:45 PM ^
Those are his hand-clubs 😳
January 30th, 2024 at 4:03 PM ^
it's pretty amazing that Colson was in our collective estimation probably the worst starter on defense and he was still very very very very good
January 30th, 2024 at 4:37 PM ^
Team 144 had no weaknesses, just varying levels of strength.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:26 PM ^
Shield for Johnson and Grant I'd say. And Minter.
January 30th, 2024 at 7:14 PM ^
A pseudo back up with a shield.
How far we have come from putting a walk on LB on the DL.
Good fucking times
January 30th, 2024 at 9:20 PM ^
How far we have come from putting a converted FB at interior DL.
FIFY
January 30th, 2024 at 9:39 PM ^
Crazy thing is we did both! And neither worked out well
January 30th, 2024 at 10:40 PM ^
I think Glasgow played there also for a couple of plays.
January 31st, 2024 at 7:53 AM ^
I came to the comments to say something about “Shield for Minter!” — figured somebody would’ve beat me to it. Right on, Jaggs
January 30th, 2024 at 2:28 PM ^
Hausmann without a filled circle?
No mention of Zinter? Or Benny? Give them some love!
January 30th, 2024 at 3:00 PM ^
Zinter and Benny are both injured-out and wouldn't appear on a depth chart
January 30th, 2024 at 9:21 PM ^
Uh, Zinter & Benny are both on it.
January 30th, 2024 at 9:42 PM ^
Benny made the bench because it would have looked like crap without him (coulda made it red). I have Zinter injured because that lets me get the OL from the last three games on the field without taking anything away from Zak.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:30 PM ^
Good shit Seth, but every single Michigan player on there should have a trophy next to their name.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:37 PM ^
Will Johnson HAS to get a shield doesn't he?
January 30th, 2024 at 4:38 PM ^
They ALL get shields in my book.
January 30th, 2024 at 9:42 PM ^
Yeah, probably should.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:41 PM ^
Returning 7 stars on defense isn't bad....
January 30th, 2024 at 2:44 PM ^
Rudddddddddddddddddddddddddddock.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:48 PM ^
Everyone on the defense should have a star. It’s the best defense in college football! Maybe the best defense ever for Michigan.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:55 PM ^
I think we could justify 3, maybe 4, more shields on defense.
What a year!
January 30th, 2024 at 2:56 PM ^
Five starred players on the bench...LOL, what a team, what a year.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:02 PM ^
If you got a good printer to print this and frame it. You could take lots of my money.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:39 PM ^
And a laminater.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:03 PM ^
So this is "where we were at the last minute of the last game", not forward looking at all, right?
Rob
January 30th, 2024 at 3:27 PM ^
Yes.
Quail
January 30th, 2024 at 3:13 PM ^
Good Lord that defense next year. Maybe I’m crazy, but I strongly believe that a repeat is within the realm of possibility. Sherrone has got to nail these coaching hires.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:39 PM ^
And keep these guys intact.
January 30th, 2024 at 7:23 PM ^
We can win it all with this D. We hopefully get some coaching continuity to replace Minter.
The offense should be fine if we can figure out the QB position.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:13 PM ^
According to this, Josh Wallace posted Michigan's 2nd best PFF defensive score for the year at 86.5. I have not gone back and compared that to the game-by-game UFRs. But, that PFF score alone has to be pretty close to a star (greedy I know). https://www.mlive.com/wolverines/2024/01/pff-grades-michigan-footballs-top-players-of-2023-season.html
January 30th, 2024 at 4:24 PM ^
You do realize the spend countless hours no UFR so they have their own metrics, right?
January 30th, 2024 at 6:30 PM ^
Wallace had a great year as he was also picked on because no one wanted to throw towards Wills side. Wallace will be messed immensely imo. Think he was one of PFF highest rated CBs for the season also.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:22 PM ^
I felt bad when Sainristil lost the shield after OSU, but pleased he ended up with one
January 30th, 2024 at 3:27 PM ^
IIRC that was because he played outside CB against Iowa, where's he's "merely" very good instead of a world-beater.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:34 PM ^
oh - thanks for the explanation !
