Assuming Moore is the next HC (and Minter and JayBaugh go with Jim)...how would you build the staff?
Nothing is confirmed, but obviously all signs point to Sherrone Moore being named the next head coach at Michigan.
If the rumors of Minter going with Harbaugh are true (again, absolutely nothing confirmed, and hopefully Michigan puts up a salary and title that makes it VERY tough)...and assuming Jay Harbaugh goes with his dad, but everyone else (including Ben Herbert) says...
...how would YOU like to see Moore fill out the rest of the staff?
- Do you think Moore should remain OC and calling plays?
- Does Newsome move to OL?
- What assistant coaches would you like to see added? (sorry, Partridge is not eligible to work at Michigan again)
- Should Moore add someone with HC experience to his staff?
- What would you like to see happen with the DC spot if Minter is indeed headed to LA?
- Do you hire someone from Ravens tree again?

call John Harbaugh and ask him for the next DC in training
January 24th, 2024 at 7:32 PM ^
This should of been done 3 days ago.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:49 PM ^
That should be the first call, but it should only be the hire if John Harbaugh has someone great to suggest. It isn't a guarantee that the Ravens have someone with Minter and Macdonald's potential on their staff at all times
January 24th, 2024 at 8:10 PM ^
Why not go with the architect…Wink Martindale
January 24th, 2024 at 8:38 PM ^
if not go get Jim Leonhard.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:07 PM ^
Not sure if Warde could have been able to keep Jim, even if they had the best possible relationship. Whatever the case, it is the past.
His *entire tenure* will depend on how he handles this transition.
No pressure.

Better, offer Minter $6 million a year to be the new head coach at Michigan. I love Sherrone, but Minter is the more elite coordinator of the two.
Bump Sherrone's salary to $2.5-3 million a year to retain him, then bump Clink or Elston to DC and backfill the rest.
Priority should be on keeping Minter and as much of the current staff as possible. Its a way better letting Minter leave with Harbaugh and go into next season with a rookie head coach AND two new coordinators.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:05 PM ^
but Minter is the more elite coordinator of the two.
Being an elite coordinator has nothing to do with your ability to run an entire program. The powers that be, and Harbaugh himself, believe Moore is a more fitting person to run a program.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:49 PM ^
oh really, than why was More the interim?
January 25th, 2024 at 4:10 AM ^
Recruiting is important in college football and well... Minter isn't really much of one
January 25th, 2024 at 9:16 AM ^
I dont know about Minter being HC but Michigan should do everything they can to keep Minter. All that money they were going to pay Harbaugh they need to give Minter a raise. Moore will already get one being HC.
Pay Minter even if its just for one more season. They need that elite defense to win games this season.
January 25th, 2024 at 4:10 PM ^
If money is the issue, we'll lose.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:28 PM ^
Quickly.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:28 PM ^
New OL coach and at minimum a co OC are absolute musts !!!
January 24th, 2024 at 7:33 PM ^
Mike probably gets OC duties
January 24th, 2024 at 7:37 PM ^
Nah … Campbell
January 24th, 2024 at 8:04 PM ^
Kirk Campbell is GREEN. He was a non-coach analyst at Penn State for 3 years. OC/QB at Old Dominion for one year. An analyst at Michigan. And then a QB Coach for one season. Maybe after a little more experience/time with the program? Which isn't to say I don't like him. I do. It's just a pretty big jump to go from non-coach analyst, to QB coach, to Offensive Coordinator in consecutive years.
If we're "fantasy booking" the job... how about someone we looked at last year? Ravens QB Coach and former candidate for Michigan QB Coach Tee Martin. He's been an OC and successful on the college level. He's in brother John's program right now. And a demon recruiter, widely regarded to be one of the best recruiters in all of college football.
I don't think it'll happen, but he checks a lot of boxes. And he was in consideration last year, so not entirely unrealistic.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:14 PM ^
This is probably crazy but how about Joe Morehead?
January 24th, 2024 at 8:22 PM ^
I think the problem with any of these hires is we don't know what the offensive identity of this team is or what Sherrone wants it to be. Does he want to continue to just run JH's offense? How much of his fingerprints does he want to put on it?
It's his program now. What does he want the team's offense to look like? What are his attitudes and opinions about recruiting versus how Jim approached recruiting?
Just because he's "Jim's guy" and because he ran Jim's team how Jim wanted when Jim was out, doesn't necessarily mean he'll be Jim v 2.0 now that it's his team. My hope is that he doesn't try. He's not going to be Jim Harbaugh, or any reasonable fascimile if he tries. Yes, learn from an amazing mentor. But then be yourself and confident in that and your choices.
So... Joe Moorhead? Tee Martin? I think they could be great OC options. They may or may not fit Moore's style. So much is unknown now. It'll be interesting to see. My hope is that Sherrone is a little more aggressive and interested in recruiting, but also wants to build a team culture too. Best of both worlds.
January 24th, 2024 at 9:58 PM ^
Not crazy at all....Morehead should be near the top of the list. He had a great offense at Penn State.
I'd consider looking at David Shaw or Paul Chryst, too. It would be nice (maybe critical) to have some HC experience on the staff.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:08 PM ^
Kirk Campbell actually HAS play-calling experience and experience running an offense. He was the acting OC during Sherrone Moore’s suspension as well. He’s not that green. He’s clearly well respected within the program and was absolutely praised by JJ.

Grant Newsome OL coach
January 24th, 2024 at 8:15 PM ^
I would prefer Grant Newsome for OL coach! Young, good recruiter, has done a great job with TEs and was OL himself!
January 24th, 2024 at 7:28 PM ^
If Moore is coach, he has to give up all OC/OL duties. No rookie coach at a P5 program should have all of those duties.
That said, at least half of the staff is likely gone. Considering a rookie coach with no interim-HC experience in Moore, you have to fill those empty positions with very high-end experienced coaches. Poach from everywhere possible. Use the money saved by not retaining Harbaugh to overpay for quality coaches and put Moore in the absolute best position to win.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:29 PM ^
Think Herbert stays and Minter is gone
January 24th, 2024 at 7:30 PM ^
PLEASE tell me that you're Warde Manuel.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:35 PM ^
Sadly no, I am not.
Warde is literally twice the man I am.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:32 PM ^
Lot of throwing cash and throwing bags for Michigan's style. How about we give them moderately above average contracts, but also tell them about how Michigan is superior to everyone, and how we do things the right way around here.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:43 PM ^
Absolutely agree with 1 and 2.
Promote Clink if he can't keep Minter.
Moore was a flexible and creative OC. I'd like to see him poach a proven OC that's not tied to a system that doesn't fit Michigan's personnel. Someone creative and flexible.
A mix of veteran position coaches and top flight recruiters should fill out his staff. If Jay goes, we're going to miss his recruiting. I can't give many names, someone who recruits like Vince Marrow would be great for TE coach. Not sure about him though.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:48 PM ^
Yeah I think you have to promote Clink to DC or lose him. He is already Defensive Passing Game Coordinator. They know he could get a DC job somewhere else.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:51 PM ^
We are going to lose 4 people. I would hire new WR, LB, TE, and Special team coaches. The rest will be internal,
January 24th, 2024 at 11:26 PM ^
Read my mind Brotha! But Sherrone should be the guy no doubts!! Gotta get the best!
January 24th, 2024 at 7:29 PM ^
Through the excess salary that would have went to JH and put it in towards a mega staff. MEGA POWERS!
January 24th, 2024 at 10:16 PM ^
Unfortunately, the ppl who were willing to put up big money for Jim probably are not willing to put up the same money for unknowns.
January 25th, 2024 at 12:10 AM ^
Haha, Nice. Im gunna steal this. Really love it so much! Mega Powers! Classic stuff:)
January 24th, 2024 at 7:29 PM ^
Break the mold -- Moore and Minter Co-HCs.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:27 PM ^
Genius idea!
January 25th, 2024 at 2:01 AM ^
I actually thought of this the other day. How did co-CEOs work for Blackberry?
January 24th, 2024 at 7:29 PM ^
Moore should absolutely not be the OC also.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:30 PM ^
Yes to Ravens tree.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:30 PM ^
Priority 1A- is someone who can run the amoeba defense
1B- Chaining Ben Herbert to the wall of the weight room at Schembechler
January 24th, 2024 at 7:35 PM ^
Last week's MGoRadio touched on this: Herbert isn't really a threat to jump because the NFL doesn't really have a version of his job. Instead, every player has his own personal trainer and training regimen, so the team guy is just kinda there. Good thing Michigan invested in its facilities to keep his workplace nice.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:40 PM ^
I don’t believe that. There are tons of guys in the league and on teams that will not be able to afford their own trainer that would be on par with coach Herbert. it doesn’t make sense that the team trainer is just there twiddling his thumbs.
January 25th, 2024 at 7:08 AM ^
guys in the league and on teams that will not be able to afford their own trainer
Minimum NFL salary is around $750k.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:49 PM ^
This could not possibly be more incorrect. NFL strength coaches are massively important and accomplished people. I've been involved with S&C on NCAA and NFL level and this is some real bad information.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:09 PM ^
You should go tell the guys because, again, this was their take from the MGoRadio.
January 25th, 2024 at 12:56 AM ^
I mean I love MGoRadio, but they're wrong about NFL S&C coaches if they think they're useless. Not really much else to add.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:11 PM ^
This sounds right, but the big difference is that in college the S&C coach is the only coach that has regular access to the players during the offseason. A lot of the team culture is forged during those offseason "practices" in the weight room.
So in college you moreso need a coach who mirrors the style and culture of the head coach, not just a kinesiologist who cranks out training and diet plans.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:30 PM ^
If it is Moore he has to be only the head coach and nothing else. Being OC and/or OL is WAY to much on a 1st time head coach to do.
