Can we pump the brakes on this “Cam Marino” story?
I’m not saying Coach Harbaugh isn’t leaving Michigan for the Chargers, but this “writer” is the only one that is really reporting on this strong 2nd interview where “things could be finalized”. This Cam fellow has been in the Atlanta Falcons space quite a bit and has made up quite a bit of information . So much so that even Matt Ryan’s wife had to set this guy straight. https://www.reddit.com/r/falcons/s/qr3fuFOiVO
He’s a Michigan State grad and his brother goes to Ohio State University. Much of his “breaking stories” are just throwing shit to the wall and seeing what sticks. If it doesn’t come to light, he’ll just shrug it off and move on to the next story.
Again, not saying Coach Harbaugh is staying or going, but this guy isn’t enough for me to believe that this is guaranteed to happen. I’ll just wait until somebody more knowledgeable and reliable to report it.

He’s from the Chicago area, a junior at MSU, and connected to the NFL search business.
It seems he and his “contact” (brother) are ideal contributors to RCMB and 11W.
My idea for the Harbaugh family would be to head over to Disneyland for a day - since I’m sure there wasn’t much free time for the head coach, his lovely wife, and their younger children during the Rose Bowl trip a few weeks ago.
Say hi to Mickey…

Thank you, I messed up on my post and said he graduated but I don’t think he has yet.
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:17 AM ^
If you want to pump the brakes on the story, don't start a new thread on it. Let the previous one drop down the message board and fade away on its own.
This thread just raised the story to the top of the message board and got people to post on it that otherwise wouldn't have posted on the previous thread.
Don't turn a one day news story into a two day news story.

Like I said on another comment, it’s a reminder to those that any information needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Reminders are needed if people keep posting stories about rumors. There nothing wrong with that. If you don’t need a reminder, then just move along.
January 23rd, 2024 at 10:49 AM ^
Stories will always be posted about rumors, people will always click on those pieces, and that is kind of the point.
Media gives us what we show them we want. When we keep clicking on rumor mill pieces with little to no sourcing, that's what media is going to keep giving us. If we want to stop seeing this kind of content, stop giving it attention.
It's really easy for people to dunk on the media these days, but we are all complicit in the dysfunction.
January 23rd, 2024 at 9:16 AM ^
Calling out the writer of the story is pumping the brakes on it rather than just let info sit out there that many may not know who is behind it throwing the bs out there. Props for the thread because there will likely be another national writer to put this out there citing this writer's story as a source. Most would not but in this day and age of media and needing to post something every few hours for clicks, we get the need to answer bad information when needed.
January 23rd, 2024 at 10:21 AM ^
I'm glad it's here because I didn't know anything about Cam. Neg me for not already knowing...... or don't. I don't care.
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:40 AM ^
He’s from the Chicago area, a junior at MSU, and connected to the NFL search business.
LOL. Might as well use this to define “media” in 2024…
January 23rd, 2024 at 9:22 AM ^
A non-sequitir, but it's not the media's fault that a bunch of venture capitalists decided to fund these broad-reach "citizen journalism" platforms because they were tired of (justified) negative press about their behavior.
It's a clever bit, though, preying on the general gullibility and instant gratification tendencies we have now.

Say hi to Mickey...
Because Goofy's busy writing Harbaugh to the Chargers stories.

I thought it was a made up name that was a juxtaposition of Cam Newton and Dan Marino. Seems that this is a real person - some 20-ish yo kid from the toney Chicago suburb of Northbrook. Probably is a real sports fan and wants to make his name, but caught up in the whole "throw sh*t against the wall and see what sticks, on which I'll then hang my hat to be legitimize myself" strategem.

Mommy must be so proud of all the up-thumb internet credits her good boi Cammie is getting!
January 23rd, 2024 at 6:31 AM ^
But can we discuss Dan Marino? That guy could really wing it. With Duper and Clayton he was amazing. Loved that guy.
January 23rd, 2024 at 6:36 AM ^
Meh, he had that issue with holding for Ray Finkle and that kick that lost the Dolphins the Super Bowl

For my first fantasy football team, Clayton and Duper were my WR's. This was back when fantasy football had to done by hand.

Fond memories of those 3 on Super Tecmo Bowl.
Speaking of which, forever grateful that the Lions had a good year when they made that game - running with Rodney Pete and Barry. Robert Clark as a deep threat. Mel Gray on returns! On defense we had Ball, Cofer, Spielman, Blades and Crockett.
Lomas Brown our radio guy was the best Olineman on that team too.
January 23rd, 2024 at 9:23 AM ^
Jerry Ball was an absolute monster in that game. I could get 100+ sacks a season with him.
January 24th, 2024 at 2:51 AM ^
You can say that again!

Loved isotoner gloves. that Dan Marino did
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:51 AM ^
I heard his Wonderlic wasn't great. Unlikely he ever has much success.
January 23rd, 2024 at 9:51 AM ^
I'll be honest, when I saw the thread title I thought Dan had a son named Cam that was probably hyped up for his future recruitment.
Ive seen crazier things here.

One heck of a glove salesman as well.

Looks like he's trying to break into someone else's locker

I have a "cool story, bro," Dan Marino edition. During my days as a pastry chef, I went to Maui with a Chicago chef to cook a series of dinners at a hotel. Dan Marino was staying there, and attended one of the dinners. So I can say that I made dessert for Dan Marino. I saw him afterwards as he left the dinner and boy, were his legs mangled looking. Years in the NFL are not kind to the body
January 23rd, 2024 at 6:40 AM ^
This has been discussed in the previous thread.
There is no need for a subsequent thread to give this kid (still at MSU) more attention/credence than we already have. Best to just move on.
Edit: Or, let's continue with more discussions on how a 20yr old Staee student, who just got done reading a tutorial on "How to Light a Couch on Fire" is not a credible source.
Have at it.
January 23rd, 2024 at 6:45 AM ^
literally some kid who didn't have the academic chops to even get into our school and goes to a petty rival school has to be giggling himself to sleep, along with his ohio brother, that folks got their panties in a wad over his cow manure post.
stay away from the back end. don't walk in it. we'll be by later today or tomorrow with the disc and 12-head plow to work that into the soil.

Icy road ahead - drive carefully

Icy roads are exactly the time to pump the brakes. However, to pump the brakes we would have to be driving this story
January 23rd, 2024 at 7:16 AM ^
Does Jim Harbaugh really want to coach in a state that was seriously considering a ban on football? Sure, it is a ban for kids under 12, and there are merits to restricting youth football, but would Jim Harbaugh be a proponent on any type of ban on his beloved sport? And does this limit opportunities for his own young son to play football? It can’t be in the family’s best interest to stunt the development of a Harbaugh into a football player.
January 23rd, 2024 at 9:38 AM ^
I lived just outside LA mid 90's and nobody ever talked football.
What a terrible, awful, football town.
January 23rd, 2024 at 10:56 AM ^
Having lived here 27 years, I can tell you it’s a great fútbol town. Football? Not so much.
January 23rd, 2024 at 7:18 AM ^
I'm not sure why people are posting unconfirmed information from single sources to begin with. Just like driving in the winter, don't speed, the brakes won't be a problem.
January 23rd, 2024 at 7:36 AM ^
A baby Sparty managed to yank the collective chain of this board, which is embarrassing, regardless of the actual travel plans of the Harbaugh party. Whoever posted that other thread should be MGoBlog pilloried.
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:01 AM ^
I made the other thread and will gladly take the negs if it means the story turns out to be bunk.
I did at least *try* to vet the source a bit before posting... I verified that the individual was at least someone who was part of the USA Today NFL reporting structure (although I did not look much further beyond that). Probably should have put a "Rumor" tag on the post, but hindsight affords that kind of enlightenment (I was also at the end of a 20+ hour day).
Either way, happy the rest of the board was able to poke some holes in the story.
I'm not too worried... I've recently made friends with the member of the Nigerian royal family and he's going to let me in on this sweet financial opportunity. Things will be just fine.
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:16 AM ^
This shows how much the media landscape has changed. Historically, you wouldn't think twice about linking a USA Today story. The insatiable desire for clicks over factual reporting has ruined many.
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:23 AM ^
To be honest, you’re one of the posters I like so I hope you don’t see this thread as directed to you.
I was just saying, overall, that this writer wasn’t a great source of news. I just wanted to remind some folks that any and all news, unless vetted by a reputable source, should be taken with a grain of salt. As Harbaugh said “No man knows the future.”. Coach Harbaugh is the only one that knows what he’s going to do. Go Blue CRG!
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:27 AM ^
But I was told in your now nuked thread that it was because of my repeated postings that "he's gone" that he's gone.
Are you guys now trying to claim I dont hold that power after all???????
I may need a moment here - I think I've got the vapors.
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:44 AM ^
I'll give you time off from the stocks for good behavior. First I need to get rid of a few rotten tomatoes. Brace yourself.
January 23rd, 2024 at 7:42 AM ^
So if I am to understand this correctly, you're saying a current MSU student and self-described NFL analyst is reporting this information? In that case, I'll be sure to check with my fourth grade, rocket football-playing students/NFL analysts for their takes and get back to everyone.
January 23rd, 2024 at 7:52 AM ^
Alarming news diets are everywhere. Trust people you know from major outlets. Verification on Twitter/X is usually a bad sign.
Insight on JH is going to come from the normal Michigan reporters with inside sources and normal NFL reporters with sources from front offices and agencies like Jeremy Fowler, Schefter etc.
And right now probably the latter because the salient part is what's going on with the Chargers and Falcons.
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:02 AM ^
I couldn't agree with you more 'LostPatrol14'. That OP from last night was posted using a tweet from a spartie hack wannabe (Cam "Sham" Marino) and the kid has a long history of practically zero credibility.
January 23rd, 2024 at 9:06 AM ^
Thank you, Rob!
CRG is normally a good poster so I don’t really have anything against them, but sometimes, especially in these situations, we don’t always do the right thing. Reminders are needed, in these cases.
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:04 AM ^
There is a life lesson here: the internet provides every idiot with a forum. Just look at RCMB or 11W and keep that in mind whatever media sources you happen to consume.
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:06 AM ^
We should take it with a grain of salt, you are right. But other UM pay boards are also reporting Harbaugh is brining "at least his wife and possibly other family members" to the second interview. Whether that means they are ready to finalize or just really damn serious, I do think it means this has gone much further than previous years.
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:13 AM ^
We should take it with a grain of salt, you are right.
Perhaps you would have been better off stopping your post there. I would guess it's more likely the other boards got sucked into a bunch of BS like this board did, using the same "sources."
January 23rd, 2024 at 8:22 AM ^
I don't think so. I don't think the boards are using this dude as the source. Balas and some of these other dudes get over their ski's at times but we've got multiple reports that Sarah is absolutely heading out there this week. I don't think that should be odd or a surprise either.
The part I think we take with a grain of salt are these reports that he is the only second interview and basically that they are going there to finalize it. But I do believe Sarah will be on that plane today...
