More opt-out fests. Early spring practice.
January 1st, 2024 at 12:25 PM ^
I was thinking Wisconsin was gonna get rolled till I realized Daniels had opted out. Feels like LSU was a turbo-Denard team with how much they relied on Daniels so Wisconsin might actually win this one
Gonna be funny to watch Oregon put 70 on Liberty in 30 mins
January 1st, 2024 at 12:36 PM ^
I'm glad to see that guys like Nix and Bucky Irving are playing.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:08 PM ^
Does Oregon have opt outs on defense?
I'm expecting Liberty to get demolished, but it's 6-0 Liberty (missed PAT) after the opening kickoff drive.
Maybe it'll be like the Michigan-Indiana game this year. From 7-0 Indiana to 52-7 Michigan.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:11 PM ^
Does Oregon even have a defense for people to opt out of?
January 1st, 2024 at 2:46 PM ^
Jokes aside from their losses to Washington, their D is actually quite good.
January 1st, 2024 at 12:41 PM ^
Man, Corso is declining rapidly. Sad to see :-(
January 1st, 2024 at 12:47 PM ^
We wouldn't have to see it if ESPN would do the humane thing and drop him off at a farm upstate
January 1st, 2024 at 12:59 PM ^
Doing the show is probably the only thing keeping him alive, like Dick Clark towards the end.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:18 PM ^
Let me guess - everyone but Desmond picked Alabama?
January 1st, 2024 at 2:04 PM ^
Enjoy every moment of him, because he probably only has a season or two left max
January 1st, 2024 at 12:46 PM ^
Rod Gilmore noting that Wisconsin has more opt-outs than LSU and acting like therefore it's surprising that LSU is struggling as though the Jayden Daniels opt-out isn't worth 10 Wisconsin opt-outs.
January 1st, 2024 at 12:50 PM ^
And then we see a Jayden Daniels commercial about It Takes More or something for Powerade. A little salt in the wound there for LSU.

Dumbest comment I’ve ever heard watching the Wisconsin game after Wisky just scored.
“That play isn’t designed to be a TD play but missed tackles opened it up.”
Isn’t the point of every play to score unless you’re A) trying to run out the clock or B) trying line up field position for a FG. Only exception is if you’re Iowa and you’re trying to get good position for your All Star punter.
January 1st, 2024 at 12:48 PM ^
Apparently good commentary is a lost art. So many speak without saying anything at all.
January 1st, 2024 at 12:53 PM ^
Do you really want to open that can of worms?
January 1st, 2024 at 12:52 PM ^
Short yardage run, like a QB sneak, going for a first down is an example of a play that is not designed to go the distance. Out routes to the sideline. A lot of stuff is designed to just move the chains, you're not expecting to break every play open.
January 1st, 2024 at 12:48 PM ^
Matt House will be available to be MSU’s D coordinator after this game. Fans have had enough of the team giving up big scores to weaker opponents.
January 1st, 2024 at 12:51 PM ^
guys, Wiscy suuuucks. They are beating #13 LSU 14-0. I don't know who's out and all that, but I'm watching this and trying not to get excited seeing the SEC look like doodoo once again. Waiting till 5 is gonna take forever
January 1st, 2024 at 1:01 PM ^
LSU's defense was horrific all year. And they're missing the Heisman QB. So, this isn't that shocking, really.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:12 PM ^
I don't know who's out and all that
Just this little somebody known as the Heisman winner.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:32 PM ^
Zero extrapolations can be made from this, or any other, non-CFP bowl game.
I remember there being conference bragging rights and seeing how different styles would clash.
But now, the teams in the bowl games are completely different teams than the ones who finished the season.
January 1st, 2024 at 12:53 PM ^
If that stadium is half full I would be shocked. You could see in a shot the upper deck was empty.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:52 PM ^
There's boatloads of empty seats in the lower level.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:56 PM ^
I saw an extra point and noticed that as well
I would have though between LSU and Wisky that stadium would have a hell of alot more people.

this wisconsin team making a new year’s day bowl game is the best justification for killing the bowl system you will find. i wouldn’t cross the street to watch this crap.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:08 PM ^
Nevermind.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:10 PM ^
The Outback/HOF bowl is the Reliaquest bowl now? What even is that?
LSU going with the rare purple jerseys, the game looks good.
Also a good looking game sartorially is the Iowa-TN game, and it's a good thing the uniforms look good, because Iowa won't.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:13 PM ^
Confessing that I'm interested to see how Tennessee's not-super-complicated but explosive spread-it-out offense matches up with Iowa's not-super-complicated but dominant defense.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:15 PM ^
"The punt game so far has definitely favored the Hawkeyes" is the most predictable commentary pull-quote of 2024.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:17 PM ^
Tennessee's QB's name is Iamaleava, which looks like what Mario or Luigi would say if they were going to the transfer portal.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:19 PM ^
Puntball working for Iowa thus far. Iowa takes over on it's 2nd possession at the Tenn 47. Can the Iowa kicker hit a 65yd FG?
January 1st, 2024 at 1:26 PM ^
And...the Iowa offense comes up with zero points after an interception into the endzone after marching down to the four. A turnover on downs at the four would have been like a good punt. Should have opted for that instead.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:45 PM ^
LOL the analyst talking about how the Iowa D held UM's O in check but the Iowa O just couldn't score any points. How about UM held UM's offense in check because there was no need to go fancy....
January 1st, 2024 at 1:23 PM ^
Gilmore acting like the pass was more than just "a little" behind. The call by Custer was good. What is with Gilmore. This guy, I tell ya.
(BTW, I can't believe how much Custer sounds like Mark Jones who used to be paired with Gilmore.)

A friend says he sounds like Matt Damon
January 1st, 2024 at 1:24 PM ^
Iowa gets all the way to 1st and goal at the TN 4 and then Deacon Hill throws a pick in the end zone. Not a good choice.
Iowa.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:25 PM ^
My lord deacon Hill. That was something

Bowl games are turning more and more into scrimmages between teams bench players, these days.
January 1st, 2024 at 1:51 PM ^
I was thinking about this earlier today, and remembering the 2003 season. Remember that one?
Michigan took down a very good Ohio State team and went to to the Rose Bowl that year as Big 10 champions. They had already blown their chances at a national title shot by losing close games to Iowa and Oregon earlier that season. But everyone was so pumped about that Rose Bowl game. And there were no opt-outs (that I recall), as such a thing was almost unheard of at the time. And that game (even though we lost) MEANT SOMETHING.
I’m not so old and & set in my ways to understand that things change, and many things change for the better. But damn. I often miss college football the way it was.
But all that said? I couldn’t be more excited about today’s Rose Bowl, of course!
January 1st, 2024 at 1:27 PM ^
Really? They're going to talk about the Vincent Smith hit again?
January 1st, 2024 at 1:29 PM ^
I was shocked by that as well. Have zero other "highlights" can talk about besides something that happened 10 years ago?
January 1st, 2024 at 1:31 PM ^
Liberty is more than holding their own thus far. Interesting game.
