Huh?

He said Jaydyn Davis, as a freshman, would be 3rd/4th string for the top 4 in the SEC. He said nothing about Michigan being behind anyone.

Yes - Jaxson Dart at Mississippi(5th year senior, 3rd year starting) and Brady Cook at Missouri (5th year senior, 3rd year starting) will absolutely be better than Jaydyn Davis in 2024.

There are a lot of people ‘em who are skeptical pointing towards his continued fall down rankings and what that traditionally means.  I’m not sure how I view it.  I think he’ll be good but also having another high talent option couldn’t hurt that’s what you see in the top programs.

I just don't get why people are surprised. These athletes are getting offered amazing amounts of money to sign / transfer to certain schools. If Michigan isn't going to wade into those waters -- and we're not -- then we're not going to get athletes for whom that kind of money is the #1 priority.

That being said, it would be fantastic to keep the momentum going at the QB position. Being mocked to the first/second round even in our run-heavy offense, as well as JJ's seven-figure NIL structure, has to be attractive to a subset of QBs out there.

“why didn’t he come here”

do we even know if Harbaugh wanted him that much or even offered?

Just because he was offered as a Sr in HS doesnt mean he’s still wanted after a year of college

Honest question from someone who doesn’t follow recruiting:  Did the coaching staff actually want him?  They are supposedly big on getting people who fit the culture. Maybe he just didn’t. (Nothing against him, not everyone has to fit at Michigan.)

No real knowledge, but I'm going to say yes they did.   You're not going to turn down a 5* QB with that kind of athleticism.

Did they want him bad?   I don't know.  They seem to like Jayden Davis, who should be a very good college QB.  Moore might mess that up.  I doubt we get Bryce Underwood, but having two highly touted QBs in the years directly ahead of him might make Michigan less attractive.

I doubt JJ comes back if he has first round grades, but there are a lot of quality QBs in the draft already and he might want to cement his legacy.  Tim Tebow is still making money off of his college fame.  Back to Back national championships might do the trick for JJ.  If he stays that gives us a year to develop Davis.

If JJ doesn't stay a sophomore reclamation project of Moore probably doesn't help.  It sounds like Moore needs a year to get rid of his shell shock from UCLA.  He'd probably beat out our other QBs and perform poorly with whatever yips he's developed.

If JJ doesn't stay I wonder if we'll be able to get a 1-year portal guy or if Orji or Denegal will be good enough to take the reigns.  No one knows if Orji can pass or not.  He definitely hits some bombs in his high school tape, but reading top college defenses is a different beast.

I also think if JJ comes back we'll have a better chance of landing Bryce Underwood.  He'd be competing with second year Davis when he gets on campus and that might be more appealing.  That said,  I think we need to have some bigger throwing games to get any top QB talent.

I would argue that in most cases a good transfer player > than a true freshman 5-star

There is a system in place that seems to be working out OK

Ideally JJ stays and give our freshman QB a whole year to develop

There will come a time, ~10 years where winning will matter again to these players. Once donors get tired of writing checks with no guarantees their money will amount to anything.

Fact of the matter is we are still in NIL infancy and it’s all about the $$$ and the dumb money wants to make sure they are the first to buy their championship. The well will begin to dry up eventually but it won’t right now. Moore has been able to successfully pocket a few million I would assume based of being a great HS QB (in a poor division and overall state for talent) and a bad year at UCLA. There’s no telling if this will be his last bag.

It’s not about winning right now. Soon hopefully the winning will come with the $

I don't know why we wanted him. He went to UCLA for reasons obviously not related to football or which denote poor football decision-making. Then, he goes NIL again and people think he all of the sudden became a humble program guy and a leader..

Yeah right. He's not right for this culture and I'm glad he's gone to Oregon.

The Indiana kid who went back to... Indiana.. To play football

The Maryland kid is balled to us, but didn't pull the trigger. Plenty of better players are.

Guys like Nolan and a couple sec others are just migrating between the same schools.

If JJ and the contract were in place I wonder if that certainty settles things down.

What's all this talk about qb development and nfl picks.  It's really simple: Oregon offered the most money.  We didn't offer as much because we didn't want him as bad.  Everything worked out the way it should. We're a team that chooses to pay NIL for an actual defense, so we don't budget as much for QB and WR.   That's the philosophy that has beaten ohio three times in a row now.

Everyone sure is making a lot of fuss over a guy who played so poorly this season that he was benched.  Just because he was a 5-star in high school doesn't mean he's going to be a star of any kind in college.  Yes, he was just a freshman, but maybe our coaches looked at the video and said "No, thanks".

Maybe this was his plan all along.  Play one year at UCLA to get that NIL money after decommiting from Oregon while Bo Nix leads Oregon in 2023, then enter the portal after the season and recommit to Oregon for more NIL money to replace Nix in 2024.

It is clear that Moore is all about following the large NIL package.  He seems to be the type of player that is more interested and focused on getting that money by using the reputation of his talent instead of earning it.

Also seems to be buzz for Walter Nolan and Ole Miss.

Can someone help me understand the bag narrative at UCLA? Their classes are just a handful of four stars and then a bunch of 3 stars. If they’re throwing money around, where is the talent? He committed to Oregon the first time, then UCLA for playing time and realized it was a bad situation so he went back to Oregon. I mean, he made a bad choice as an 18 year old. So what? He’s going to one of the best QB schools of late.

UCLA rarely gets talent like him.  He flipped from Oregon to UCLA at the last minute, then left UCLA after one season and going back to his original committed school.  It he committed to UCLA because he truly likes it there, then why not stick around and help make the team better?  He was more than likely going to be UCLA's starter next year, but he will not be the starter at Oregon.
