Michigan Not Among Joe Moore Award Finalists
Goergia, LSU, Oregon and Washington are the finalists this year. Not too surprising I guess. I wasn't expecting to win this year, but still thought they might make Michigan a finalist.

What about the Dante Moore award finalists?
December 6th, 2023 at 8:22 PM ^
He isn't in our price range
December 6th, 2023 at 3:59 PM ^
Yeah. We really struggled in both pass pro and on the ground. Blake’s numbers highlight that. I still don’t know what the deal is with The Don.
I’m actually more concerned about the o-line than any other unit going into the playoffs
December 6th, 2023 at 5:03 PM ^
Yeah, 32 straight runs because pass pro is so shaky that it's too risky to pass doesn't scream best OL in the country...
December 6th, 2023 at 5:50 PM ^
December 6th, 2023 at 6:00 PM ^
Exactly. We have the #5 FEI offense in the country. We are 13-0. We didn't punt in the 2nd half against OSU.
It's okay to pick nits. As long as you know that's what you're doing.

Michigan is far from deserving this year, with how the pass protection and run game have faltered. Hope we can step it up for the Rose Bowl!
December 6th, 2023 at 6:45 PM ^
Injuries down the stretch had much to do with this, Rose Bowl will be different
December 6th, 2023 at 7:17 PM ^
Oh yeah? Will Zak Zinter be back?
December 7th, 2023 at 7:22 AM ^
I’m not sure we were all that “far from deserving.” Maybe not top 4, but probably top 10. Every single O lineman was all-conference in some capacity. We have gotten spoiled, but this is still a very good line on a great team.
December 6th, 2023 at 4:03 PM ^
The preseason prediction that we would not win the Joe Moore award because they wouldn't give it to someone 3x in a row was correct, but directionally incorrect
December 6th, 2023 at 4:15 PM ^
You were technically correct, which is the best kind of correct

+1 Futurama
December 6th, 2023 at 4:07 PM ^
O Line coach was slacking this year.
Can his ass.
December 6th, 2023 at 4:26 PM ^
I thought the joke was obvious
December 6th, 2023 at 4:28 PM ^
I chuckled
December 6th, 2023 at 5:51 PM ^
I heard he spent half his time thinking about other things entirely.
December 6th, 2023 at 4:08 PM ^
Look what the CFP committee started. Zak Zinter goes down and the Moore Award people disqualify Michigan.
December 6th, 2023 at 4:08 PM ^
Maybe the OL coach was busy doing other things!
December 6th, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
Makes sense. They shouldn't be this year.
December 6th, 2023 at 4:11 PM ^
Not surprised after watching the season, but very surprised given the preseason expectations
December 6th, 2023 at 4:17 PM ^
Definitely don't deserve it this year. I'm a little confused by Washington and LSU's inclusion, but alas.
December 6th, 2023 at 6:01 PM ^
Did you watch Washington?
December 6th, 2023 at 4:20 PM ^
Not a surprise they aren't going to win but also not the biggest concern in the world. It's been an okay offensive line year but considering only one of those 4 teams is playing for a title (and the one, Washington, has the lowest odds of winning said title) I'll take missing this list if it improves UM's chances of taking home bigger hardware.
December 6th, 2023 at 4:21 PM ^
Even if they were really good this year, there was almost no way they were going to win it a third year in a row. They would've had to be so absurdly dominant that it truly didn't make any sense to give it to anyone else.
The OL was good this year, but it definitely took a step back from where it was.
December 6th, 2023 at 4:32 PM ^
so here's a question - is there a similar award for defensive lines? i'd never heard of the joe moore award until we won it, maybe that's why i'd not heard of a defensive line version...
December 6th, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
You heard Aaron Taylor! The Joe Moore award is special because it's the only award in college football that goes to a unit, not an individual! It's the damn pinnacle for an offensive line group!
December 6th, 2023 at 6:01 PM ^
And it's voted by former OL so they know what to look for in a good OL play. It's better than the media who has absolutely no idea what to look for when it comes to OL.
December 6th, 2023 at 7:54 PM ^
Wow, something not in the hands of the media!
December 7th, 2023 at 5:35 AM ^
like i said, what i’m asking is if there’s an award for the best defensive line unit.
i know about the joe moore award, and i know the idea behind it. but (also like i said) i don’t recall it being a major thing around these parts until we won it, although that might’ve be due to my own general disinterest in awards when we don’t win them. it’s only been around since 2015, in any case.
December 6th, 2023 at 4:40 PM ^
Makes sense. They are a good not great O-line, definitely a step down from the last couple years.
Hopefully lights a fire under their ass to be great for the last 2 games of the season.
December 6th, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
Based on run game performance this year, i wouldn't have expected them to be. Pass protection was generally pretty good, but fell of at the end of the year.
December 6th, 2023 at 4:48 PM ^
the unit helped win 12 games but they werent worthy of the award this year, or even finalist nomination
December 6th, 2023 at 4:50 PM ^
Don’t care, beat bama
December 6th, 2023 at 5:07 PM ^
I don't have any opinion on the finalists, but I agree that Michigan doesn't deserve to be among them this year. The running game has been extremely inconsistent all year, and we've seen pass protection issues against teams with competent edge rushers like Purdue and PSU. I don't know what the cause is, but the results aren't Joe Moore-worthy.
December 6th, 2023 at 5:15 PM ^
You can watch the highlights from 2021 and 2022 osu games and our O lines just plow through the opposition opening huge holes. Didnt see much like that this year
December 6th, 2023 at 5:16 PM ^
I honestly do not think many are surprised by this. The OL is still good, not elite like it had been the previous 2 years. A couple of guys set the unit back.
December 6th, 2023 at 5:22 PM ^
Oline was average at best for the majority of the season
December 6th, 2023 at 5:24 PM ^
I'll trade the Joe Moore award for a 2-0 start in calendar year '24.
December 6th, 2023 at 5:24 PM ^
It was a heck of a run, but figured they wouldn't make it 3 straight. Not sure why they weren't as good this year as the past two with so much returning and such a weak B1G.
December 6th, 2023 at 5:33 PM ^
Any of those national awards we won’t be in on
December 6th, 2023 at 5:49 PM ^
Not worthy of being a finalist, but still an absolutely elite unit.
December 6th, 2023 at 6:03 PM ^
They may not've won the Joe Moore again, but that second half against Penn State and the remainder of The Game after Zinter went down are going to stay with me. We absolutely needed them to come through and kill games and they did.

December 6th, 2023 at 11:17 PM ^
We tried to throw and JJ nearly got decapitated. Just because we ran well enough to win doesn’t mean the pass game was good.
December 6th, 2023 at 6:48 PM ^
Washington will win.
December 6th, 2023 at 7:25 PM ^
Good. Who cares about the awards? Just go win the CFP and I think we’ll be OK.
December 6th, 2023 at 8:09 PM ^
Why did you think we were among the best 4 OLs in the country again?
December 6th, 2023 at 8:11 PM ^
Fire Sherron Moore?
December 6th, 2023 at 8:43 PM ^
I don’t blame the committee. If Cade or McCord was our qb the line would have got them killed. Lots of work to do before new yrs eve.
