So when Bama beats Georgia, cfp has to be this right?
November 26th, 2023 at 8:16 AM ^
No Bama would be in
November 26th, 2023 at 8:20 AM ^
You're getting negged but we all know the politics behind the CFP. I honestly could see it.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:24 AM ^
Texas beat Bama at Bama. FSU would be undefeated. I’m not sure the committee could jump Bama over either of those teams. It would look VERY bad.
November 26th, 2023 at 1:37 PM ^
Texas-Bama was earlier in the season and the committee would be looking more at who the best teams are right now than whatever happened back in week 2.
Beating the #1 (or #2 depending on what the committee does Tuesday) for Bama is going to be more impressive than Texas beating Oklahoma State. Theres a very realistic chance they don’t care about the head to head matchup in week 2.
November 26th, 2023 at 2:46 PM ^
If head to head doesnt matter WHY play the games?
November 26th, 2023 at 3:17 PM ^
It does matter. It’s just not the only thing that matters. It’s a piece to the puzzle and winning a game in Week 2 likely carries less weight than how a team looks 11 games later. Teams evolve throughout the year, and it’s the job of the committee to choose the 4 best teams for the playoff, not the 4 best teams from week 2.
I’m sure the head to head will be part of the conversation, but it’s pretty silly to assume they automatically get the nod because they won a game in early September. There’s a whole season worth of data to consider.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:25 AM ^
Nah, Pete Finebaum told me Bama and Georgia would both be in.
Even Ole Miss has a shot since their only losses are to Georgia and Bama so they are basically undefeated.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:32 AM ^
Have you not been paying attention to the CFP the past decade? Bama and Georgia would definitely both be in.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:47 AM ^
Pete and media would petition for 12 game playoff to start this year.
Backdoor Buckeyes and PSU also Rand would jump at the opportunity. NCAA would buckle to the pressure.

Just let the OSU AD handle it, he’ll get the Big Ten Commissioner involved
November 26th, 2023 at 8:51 AM ^
Oh, and you're forgetting that Michigan had a near loss last week to Maryland but Georgia pulled out a gritty one score win against former SEC member and rival Georgia Tech this week.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:54 AM ^
Interestingly, Auburn was almost the mirror SP+ of Maryland (before yesterday, I'm sure they moved up a tad). But Auburn gave both Bama and Georgia their closest conference games.
Georgia Tech is just below....Nebraska and Minnesota.
November 26th, 2023 at 2:07 PM ^
Zero chance the SEC is left out of the playoffs
November 26th, 2023 at 8:16 AM ^
Well, I can save you the hypothetical. Bana won't beat Georgia.
It'll be UGA, UM, Oregon, Texas (after FSU loses to Louisville).
November 26th, 2023 at 8:18 AM ^
I agree with hotel putingrad
November 26th, 2023 at 8:20 AM ^
This is the answer. Georgia is going to stomp Bama.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:31 AM ^
Putingrad has the ways and means to make this happen.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:39 AM ^
Watching that Georgia Tech game last night, I think Georgia is far more vulnerable than the last two years. I could readily see Bama beat Georgia (especially if their QB is hitting)
November 26th, 2023 at 9:01 AM ^
Do you think Maryland Michigan was the same team as OSU Michigan?
Don't expect UGA to sleep walk through a game against Bama.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:18 AM ^
Louisville couldn’t even beat Kentucky at home—why do you think they’re going to beat FSU?
November 26th, 2023 at 9:26 AM ^
Because FSU lost their QB last week and struggled with UF yesterday.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:47 AM ^
FSU's backup QB got hurt last night too.
Florida ends the season with a 5-game losing streak. That's not good.
November 26th, 2023 at 10:31 AM ^
“FSU's backup QB got hurt last night too.”
Yikes—how seriously?
November 26th, 2023 at 10:52 AM ^
He went back in and finished the game
November 26th, 2023 at 12:29 PM ^
He got hit high and hard while sliding after a run, which was a targeting call. Walked off a little woozy. I must've been flipping channels and did not see him return.
November 26th, 2023 at 10:57 AM ^
I agree with HP, too. But I would much prefer to face Washington than Oregon. So, Go Huskies!

Assuming Texas wins the BIG XII AND FSU wins the ACC then yes. Had Bama lost to Auburn yesterday and then manage to upset UGA that would have made for an even bigger mess. I think the only lock right now is the Pac-? champ though there is no way OSU would get in over UM should we get upset by Iowa.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:21 AM ^
If UM loses to Iowa, Gene Smith will have the B1G step in to handle it.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:37 AM ^
He shot his wad 4 weeks ago. Besides, he doesn't know where to stand on the sidelines.
November 26th, 2023 at 11:13 AM ^
He's always crossing the line
November 26th, 2023 at 8:38 AM ^
Gene Smith has mommy Pettiti on speed dial.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:18 AM ^
Nah its all setup now with Louisville losing for them to take out FSU and enable an SEC team to be in the playoff regardless of their title games result.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:29 AM ^
yeah i don’t think louisville losing meant a damn thing. no way they were putting in a 1 loss louisville over literally any other one loss team, let alone an sec team. but yes, if fsu loses, either uga or bama (or maybe both) will deservedly be in.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:29 AM ^
Big XII Champ Texas deserves to be in over SEC Champ Bama.
they already settled that on the field in Tuscaloosa
November 26th, 2023 at 10:36 AM ^
And I am sorry, for me Bama basically has two losses at this point, Auburn's collapse notwithstanding.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:18 AM ^
If Bama beats UGA, I have a sneaky suspicion that Bama sits at #4. There's no way ESPN keeps out the real SEC team.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:36 AM ^
Yep, undefeated FSU gets left out.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:10 AM ^
FSU isn't beating Louisville. They were on the ropes last night to UF. The only reason they won is because UF's defense can't tackle. Watching that game late, my wife asked if I would be able to coach Michigan if by some reason they asked. Several minutes later, after picking myself up off the floor and regaining my breath from laughing so hard my ribs broke, I calmly explained the UF defense: 8 tight in the box with a high safety to keep things in front, designed to make a short yardage stop on a short yardage play. And then the FSU back went through the A-gap and straight into the end zone from some 20 yards out with Gators arm-swiping at air.
That's when I turned the game off.
November 26th, 2023 at 11:26 AM ^
Meh. On the road in the swamp on rivalry week. FSU is a 4.5 point favorite at open. They CAN and will LIKELY beat Louisville.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:20 AM ^
Agreed that Georgia would be out, under the Texas beat Bama beat Georgia logic, with Mizzou being their best win otherwise (though the committee has been fattening Tennessee for this moment). Could easily see a situation where Texas winds up screwed though. FSU probably slots in 4 regardless because of the QB situation, fair or not.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:20 AM ^
IMO
Florida St. is losing to Louisville.
Texas is winning out.
Oregon is beating Washington and Washington isn't falling below OSU. They're 12-1 with a loss to the Pac-12 Champ and a win over the Pac-12 Champ. OSU would be 11-1 with PSU being their best win.
(Bama isn't beating Georgia...but even if they did Bama and Georgia are ahead of OSU)
November 26th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
I think FSU beats Lousiville. Texas wins. Who knows on Bama/Georgia. Michigan beats Iowa. And Oregon/Wash. a tossup as well.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:20 AM ^
I’m hearing Ohio State is launching multiple investigations into FSU, Alabama and Oregon.
November 26th, 2023 at 10:27 AM ^
Underrated post here.
November 26th, 2023 at 11:31 AM ^
This is hilarious. Well done!
November 26th, 2023 at 8:21 AM ^
OP - very optimistic.
SEC winner and Michigan are in. Washington / Oregon, Florida State or Texas.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:34 AM ^
November 26th, 2023 at 11:34 AM ^
If we lose to Iowa, we shouldn't be in anyway.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:22 AM ^
Michigan, SEC Winner, Pac Winner are all in IMO. The only question is who gets the 4th spot.
