Semi-OT: Coaching carousel is getting crowded (or spaces are opening up? I don't know)
Head Coaches:
- SDSU - Brady Hoke is retiring
- Mississippi State - Zach Arnett is fired
- Boise State - Andy Avalos is fired
- TAMU - Jimbo Fisher is fired
- michigan state - mel tucker told to talk to the hand. he misinterpreted that instruction and got fired as a result.
Offensive Coordinators:
- Penn State - Mike Yurcich fired
- Arkansas - Dan Enos fired
- Indiana - Walt Bell fired (replaced with Rod Carey)
- Iowa - Brian Ferentz pre-fired
Defensive Coordinators:
- USC - Alex Grinch fired
Not including Colorado who demoted their OC Sean Lewis (still on staff).
Top HC jobs have to be TAMY and, followed by MSU (not that MSU), msu (ytmsu), BSU, then SDSU.
Will be super interesting to see who PSU and Iowa hire for their OC positions.
Since USC will be in the Big Ten next year, their DC job still has a great level of interest for us (until it doesn't).

Has anyone ever seen an instance of both head coaches getting fired immediately following a game? I can't think of one.
November 13th, 2023 at 10:58 AM ^
No but I remember Charlie Weis losing to an already-fired Greg Robinson Syracuse team, then getting fired from ND right after
Edit: wow I misremembered that, Weis got another year. Sorry, hard to keep track of all his embarrassing losses.
November 13th, 2023 at 12:05 PM ^
+1 for correcting yourself.
Charlie might still be getting residuals from ND and Kansas.
November 13th, 2023 at 1:13 PM ^
wonder what he does to get his steps in these days
November 13th, 2023 at 11:37 AM ^
NFL but Mike Zimmer and Matt Nagy were both fired after the 2021 season. Probably happens often in the NFL on Black Monday.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:40 AM ^
Not just a game. A WIN! And Boise is still sorta kinda in the mix, in an Illinois has a chance at the Big Ten West title kinda way.
November 13th, 2023 at 2:13 PM ^
This isn't even the first time it happened to Mississippi State. I don't remember exactly how immediately the firings were, but the 2019 Egg Bowl ended with both coaches fired after an Ole Miss wide receiver pretends to be a dog and pee after a touchdown, leading to a flag and a missed game tying PAT. The piss, the miss, the double dismiss.
November 13th, 2023 at 10:57 AM ^
Hoke is retiring?
He's in better shape than when he was coaching Michigan.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:09 AM ^
Once you make enough money, I would think you'd start enjoying (spending) some of it.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:51 AM ^
That's how the average person thinks...
...but then there are the millionaires that want to become billionaires and the billionaires who complete to see who has the most money. I've read that wanting more money is like a drug addiction - can't get enough.
November 13th, 2023 at 1:31 PM ^
I doubt that applies to most football coaches, especially at the college level. That's a mindset usually associated with CEOs and the like. Most football coaches who are any good would trade it all for winning games. Harbaugh even said he'd coach for free.
November 13th, 2023 at 5:13 PM ^
No...that was before he realised how much bullshit he'd have to deal with...no one would work for free and put up w all the BS Harbaugh has had to deal with on top of just managing a roster of teenage young men.
November 13th, 2023 at 10:58 AM ^
+1 for the Mel Tucker comment alone... LMAO - well done!
Did Deione really demote his OC - like offense was their problem? WTH? The Buff's defense is every bit as 'good' as USC's defense!
November 13th, 2023 at 12:30 PM ^
Top HC jobs have to be TAMY and, followed by MSU (not that MSU), msu (ytmsu), BSU, then SDSU.
Agreed! The level of disrespekt with that comment and about the value of the jobs is hilarious!
November 13th, 2023 at 12:30 PM ^
Don't worry Lewis will be a HC next year anyway.
btw, who is Deione? Like Celine?
November 13th, 2023 at 12:53 PM ^
Marcel Deione Sanders
November 13th, 2023 at 11:00 AM ^
All I know is our coaches are too short and too slow for HC or Coordinator jobs.
To all ADs: You don't want our OC. He cries too much.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:06 AM ^
Plus he's a fucking pottymouth.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:01 AM ^
Mississippi St is a bigger job than MSU? I hate them too, but these types of takes are almost RCMBian.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:04 AM ^
Yeah, I know we rightfully mock MSU but I can't see any universe where MS State is anything better than the second-worst job in the SEC (Vandy is easily the worst).
November 13th, 2023 at 11:19 AM ^
Er… Missouri has to be second-worse. Mississippi has a ton of home-state talent. What Mizzou is doing this year is totally out of character
And for that very reason you soon can add Missouri to the list of schools that will be looking for a HC cuz Drinkwater gonna be moving on up somewhere.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:28 AM ^
I feel like Arkansas is below Missouri.
November 13th, 2023 at 12:55 PM ^
Kentucky is below all of them except Vandy. It just doesn't show right now because Stoops is an excellent coach
November 13th, 2023 at 12:37 PM ^
Not true about Mizzou. According to Rivals, Missouri has 23 3 stars and above and 2 5 stars. Kentucky has 17 3 stars and Arkansas 18, and neither have 5 stars. South Carolina has 20 and no 5 stars. Mizzou's problem since Pinkel left was not locking down the state.
Missouri has two major metro areas with only 1 FBS school. KY has 3 FBS schools, AR has 2 and so does SC. That's like dividing the recruits up.
Whoever locks down the state of MO will have success.
November 13th, 2023 at 12:37 PM ^
Mizzou won't make it this year, but they've been to Atlanta twice. With the close proximity to Chicago, St. Louis and Kansas City, Mizzou has access to talent. I'll take that job over a handful of SEC schools (MSU, Vandy, Auburn, South Carolina and Kentucky).
November 13th, 2023 at 1:22 PM ^
As a lifelong Missouri fan with deep family roots in the state and at Mizzou, I really hope Drinkwitz stays in Columbia. Looks like he's building something there.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:23 AM ^
I think Vandy is one of the best jobs in the SEC. Great school, great town, fans who are happy if you cover the 30-point spread and will build a statue of you for making the Duke's Mayo Bowl.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:24 AM ^
Is the statue made out of mayonnaise?
November 13th, 2023 at 11:05 AM ^
I don't know much about Miss St, but I would think with the craziness within the leadership in EL would make them a less attractive job. Maybe I'm wrong and too close to it, but that place seems pretty toxic right now.
EDIT: it was also for comic relief, but I get your point.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:08 AM ^
From the outside it's probably still viewed as a decent job. Guys will look at Tuck's one great year and think, "I could do that, too, with a few breaks." (This is where I doubt that validity of said thought.)
No one is looking at MS State and thinking, "I can win 10 games there." They're thinking, "If I'm not careful I will lose 10 games there."
November 13th, 2023 at 12:56 PM ^
Good thing Dantonio was careful to beat Furman in 2016
November 13th, 2023 at 11:01 AM ^
I floated this in another thread, but I wonder if Joe Moorhead would consider a return to PSU. He's 4-18 at Akron and staring down consecutive 2-10 seasons. He also would probably get a pay bump as OC at a blue-ish blood, especially one where he already had lots of success.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:22 AM ^
I wondered the same thing - hopefully he likes the big chair too much to step back but its clear things aren't working at Akron.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:26 AM ^
Saquon Barkley ain't walking back through that door though....
November 13th, 2023 at 12:09 PM ^
That's true but I do think that Moorhead found the best ways to utilize Barkley. He'd likely be able to do a better job maximizing their current offensive talent.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:38 AM ^
PSU has got to do something. I love Stanley Tucci as an actor as much as anybody but the dude needs a bigger brain to run the offense.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:05 AM ^
Tom Herman
Dan Mullen
Sherron
Kliff
There are quite a few others...
November 13th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
Jon Gruden?
November 13th, 2023 at 1:33 PM ^
Urban?
November 13th, 2023 at 11:13 AM ^
oh wow, just saw PSU canned their OC after the loss to us.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:24 AM ^
My son-in-law is a PSU fan and came to the house on Sunday for dinner. Complained about their OC and wanted him fired. Not 10 minutes later I saw it posted that he was indeed fired and showed him the headline. Big smile -- until I told him that Brian Ferentz was being considered as the replacement!
November 13th, 2023 at 11:26 AM ^
we're gonna cause some more firings i think
what's hilarious is the *hiring* we caused: one mel tucker lucky win has tanked their whole program for years
November 13th, 2023 at 11:38 AM ^
Can Tony Petitti please be one of them?
November 13th, 2023 at 11:15 AM ^
Not including Colorado who demoted their OC Sean Lewis (still on staff).
Is there any actual info on what happened with this? There's no way anyone would rationally downgrade Sean Lewis and replace him with Pat fucking Shurmur without something weird going on behind the scenes
November 13th, 2023 at 11:27 AM ^
Haaaaaaaaaave you met Prime?
November 13th, 2023 at 11:34 AM ^
Shadeur was getting pummeled and I assume Deion wanted to try something to lessen that. I haven’t paid attention to see if it worked.
November 13th, 2023 at 11:51 AM ^
He seems to be getting sacked marginally less, but his completion percentage and YPA are both down since Shurmur took over
November 13th, 2023 at 12:00 PM ^
Yeah, he gets sacked alot. But, it seems like half are because of the O-line and half are because the kid will hang on to the ball for way too long.
