Reminder that in 2020, the Big Ten changed the rules to benefit OSU
Ohio State didn’t qualify to go to the Big Ten championship game in 2020, but the league bent the rules to allow them in.
This smoothed the path for that year’s OSU team to make the playoffs as well.
I really do want to ask: why are we staying in this league again?

Stop pretending the COVID year was a real year.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:34 PM ^
I think this is the only fanbase that's pretending it wasn't.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:44 PM ^
It was a real year. It was also a really weird year.
It's also best forgotten. Unless you're an Indiana fan.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:50 PM ^
Or Texas A&M.
November 6th, 2023 at 2:04 PM ^
The fake 2020 year got Tom Allen a huge contract/buyout, so even Indiana fans might have mixed feelings about it
November 6th, 2023 at 2:37 PM ^
It’s pretty obvious that the Covid year created a lot of uneven situations at many schools. Teams played different number of games, many players sat out, home field advantage was non existent. You can argue the validity of whether it was a "real” year or not but it’s clear the predictive ability of that year for following seasons was especially poor (PSU and Michigan were terrible, Indiana and Northwestern had great seasons, etc.)
November 6th, 2023 at 3:26 PM ^
Teams also followed Covid protocol to very different degrees.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:40 PM ^
I've never been to Belize.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:47 PM ^
I will as soon as all the OSU and MSU people stop pretending that Michigan was ass before they stole signs, and pointing to the 2-4 COVID year as proof...instead of, you know, the preceding 5 seasons that had multiple years where Michigan was exactly one game away from the Big Ten Championship.
And it's not just OSU/MSU people. Others in media and even some from other conferences have taken that talking point and run with it. It's transparent bullshit.
November 6th, 2023 at 2:58 PM ^
The world's a much better place if you ignore those people. You might even find yourself with a new name.
November 6th, 2023 at 2:32 PM ^
Ohio vs The World except during Covid
November 6th, 2023 at 2:33 PM ^
I think it was a great call by the B1G. It made everyone think Third-base is a great coach. Doh!
November 6th, 2023 at 2:42 PM ^
The funniest thing about it is that they claim we didn't want to play them, yet they only played 6 regular season games
November 6th, 2023 at 2:59 PM ^
I once got a Buckeye to admit that if covid was us ducking Ohio State, then that meant covid was Ohio State was ducking Illinois. He never clued in that he basically torpedoed his own stance.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:33 PM ^
I really want to ask, why does every random thought you have need to become a thread?
November 6th, 2023 at 1:37 PM ^
It is worth pointing out that this conference has bent over backwards to appease Ohio State on more than one occasion. This appears to be another time they're attempting to.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:43 PM ^
It is worth pointing out that...
no, it's not. it almost never is.
November 6th, 2023 at 3:03 PM ^
The Nutheads spend more money than any other NCAAF program. Maybe this tells us where all that money is going.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:39 PM ^
Agree. It’s time to up the OP point threshold.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:43 PM ^
OP has more points than you and I combined. Think the real solution will have to be meaningful consequences for people who repeatedly break board rules.
November 6th, 2023 at 2:56 PM ^
Why does any negatively-toned discussion of Ohio State on this board upset you so much?
November 6th, 2023 at 3:58 PM ^
Why do you comment on every single one of them?
November 6th, 2023 at 4:16 PM ^
I think a better question is: why does this Temu ad that keeps popping up for me, for an orange facemask-snorkel, keep catching my eye because I think it's a codpiece-strap-on?
November 6th, 2023 at 1:36 PM ^
2020 is a year I am trying to forget
November 6th, 2023 at 1:36 PM ^
Don't be that guy like msu fans asking to change conferences because you don't like what's going on. Michigan is Big Ten.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:37 PM ^
Fuck that, if this is how the big ten wants to roll, we need to go somewhere else. They need us more than we need them. Time to make that point known.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:44 PM ^
Big Ten might have meant something when it was TEN teams. Its not ten teams. Its not a midwestern regional conference any longer. Who gives a fuck at this point? We need to do what is best for us going forward, not worrying about the past.
November 6th, 2023 at 2:05 PM ^
I don't know, maybe they should move out and leave these clowns to themselves...and see how their TV deals go.
November 6th, 2023 at 2:38 PM ^
Don't be that guy like...
Got it Karen.
November 6th, 2023 at 2:47 PM ^
Conferences used to be a core part of college football landscapes. Now they're just loose federations of teams that want to schedule each other and negotiate TV contracts together. And if other Big Ten schools don't want to schedule a Harbaugh-coached team, I'd be fine with giving them their wish.
November 6th, 2023 at 3:58 PM ^
Oh greenbabyjesus please let MSU leave the Big Ten.
November 6th, 2023 at 4:06 PM ^
That'll obviously never happen. Nice thought, though.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:37 PM ^
Yep. No matter how many times we push their shit in this league will always be the cult of Ohio State. People need to stop pretending like we need the Big Ten more than they need us.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:42 PM ^
THIS!!! ^^^^
The conference should bend toward Michigan, not the other way around. I said this in other threads, this treatment would never happen to Georgia or Bama. Never to Texas or Oklahoma. Never to OSU. The Big Ten needs the eyes on Michigan.
November 6th, 2023 at 2:13 PM ^
I think Texas & Oklahoma are going to quickly find out the SEC will not bend to them the way the Big Twelve did because the SEC has Bama & Georgia.
Do the fans who want Michigan to leave for the SEC really think Michigan is going to walk through that door and suddenly own everything? Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Texas, and Oklahoma are all going to say "hold my beer"... and Michigan will be standing there with a bottle of Chardonnay.
November 6th, 2023 at 2:34 PM ^
No one said Michigan will own everything and you made an assumption that the SEC would be the landing spot. Even if Michigan did end up in the SEC, something so petty and stupid like this would never happen.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:37 PM ^
TBF, rules were changed in 2016. Go back and watch The Game to get pissed off.
No, it wasn’t ever about the controversial spot (yes, he was short), which is actually a distraction from an entire game of homerism and absurd 1 way officiating.

The Ohio was losing to The Rutger at The Halftime of The Saturday that just happened. If The Rutger QB wasn't such a The Dope Smoker they actually coulda won.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:50 PM ^
It appears that OSU sign stealing guy is pretty good. He needs only a half to figure them out.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:45 PM ^
ALSO in 2020, Jim Harbaugh called out Ryan Day for violating practice rules (which as we all remember from stretch gate, is a level I violation) - and that led to the infamous "i'ma drop 100 on him" quote
pretty sure that's a bigger deal than illegal scouting and sign stealing
November 6th, 2023 at 2:28 PM ^
Nope not true. Those are nothing and this is the worst crime in American sports history.
November 6th, 2023 at 2:59 PM ^
^^^^ THIS ^^^^
I was going to post this. If coaches are hiring PIs to start investigating other teams for stuff that maybe happened behind closed doors, can we get OSU for violating NCAA regulations and posting them on Instagram?
Also, it's 3 years later, and Day has so far only hung 50 on us. At that rate, it would take 2 more years for him to score 100 on Michigan. Who here thinks he'll be coaching that long?
November 6th, 2023 at 1:48 PM ^
oh, get a damned grip.
some of y'all would totally fit in with the whiny conspiracy nuts in columbus and east lansing and college park.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:54 PM ^
This has been, by far, the worst part of all of this for me.
November 6th, 2023 at 1:49 PM ^
The alternative was “No Big Ten championship game for Ohio State because Michigan couldn’t play because of COVID, and OSU had the tiebreaker for the division win or lose vs a Michigan.”
Bending the rules in that situation - yeah it was justified (IMO).
November 6th, 2023 at 1:53 PM ^
I think the bigger issue was putting OSU in the CFP, as they had only played something like six games that year.
November 6th, 2023 at 2:37 PM ^
The B1G and NCAA have been trying to gift The OSU for decades which is why I think Ohio vs The World is the most humorous talking point they have.
