Simply put, to hell with NBC and the B1G for putting these kind of circus acts together for the purposes of squeezing more money out of fan bases. Given last year’s hideous behavior on the part of Sparty, why else would you schedule a rematch one year later at night? Bread and Circuses, let’s get some NASCAR level wrecks lined up to pull a few more eyeballs. Shameful.

Can't wait to dismantle sparty even more!

They really want to see a bludgeoning in prime time, do they?
October 9th, 2023 at 11:48 AM ^
The national audience wants to see a ritualistic murder by moonlight and so they shall.
October 9th, 2023 at 8:10 PM ^
I worry about attempts to injure JJ - I remember them twisting Denard's neck at the bottom of a pile.
October 9th, 2023 at 10:12 AM ^
I like night games for watching from home since I can still have a productive day before settling down to watch football. This is one game, however, that I don’t want at night. Hope the team can get out of there drama and injury free, plus a nice margin of victory.
October 9th, 2023 at 10:13 AM ^
A beat down... in prime time!
October 9th, 2023 at 10:14 AM ^
What could possibly go wrong?
October 9th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
Better hide the couches....
October 9th, 2023 at 11:38 AM ^
I think the chances are high that MSU will further embarrass themselves somehow (cheap shots, drunken fans, etc), documented on national TV for all to see.
October 9th, 2023 at 10:16 AM ^
Just beat the motherfuckers
October 9th, 2023 at 10:16 AM ^
Night games at Spartan Stadium allow more trash to get blown on the field throughout the day. Should be a nice scene.
October 9th, 2023 at 11:05 AM ^
The trash pit will be somewhat mitigated by the fact that MSU fans have largely given up and Michigan fans will be picking up the cheapest ticket on the schedule within easy driving distance.
October 9th, 2023 at 7:53 PM ^
I'm considering it! They're already cheaper than anything left on the schedule at home. Including hapless Indiana.
October 9th, 2023 at 1:30 PM ^
Most of their fans aren't able to be blown onto the field, so not sure what you mean....
October 9th, 2023 at 10:16 AM ^
I'll be in Hawaii for that one. 1:30 kickoff there. I remember being there for the MSU/Michigan game when it was a 12:00 kickoff. Nothing like getting up at 6 AM to watch a football game.
October 9th, 2023 at 10:24 AM ^
Craig Ross, is that you?
October 9th, 2023 at 4:59 PM ^
Nope. His username is CR.

I’ll be in HNL for the IU game 0600 kick 😴

6AM football? A little early perhaps, but that sound like heaven, actually.
Try forcing yourself to cut your Saturday night early to try to get a couple of hours of sleep for a 1 or 2 AM start time as those of us in Asia do, especially if you want to stay up and see one of the night games, which means staying up till past noon on Sunday.
And hey, you're living in paradise, so unlikely to get much sympathy from folks living in the midwest.
Go Blue, any time of day or night.
October 9th, 2023 at 10:19 AM ^
Nice NBC. Maybe you can get 4 more people I'd never recognize for your pre-game and halftime panels.
Maria Taylor
Joshua Perry
Michael Robinson
Matt Cassel
I sorta kinda remember who Matt Cassel is. Step your game up.
October 9th, 2023 at 10:22 AM ^
Maria Taylor is legit.
October 9th, 2023 at 3:09 PM ^
Agree, I am a fan. Woman is, quite simply, bright. In fact, despite my skepticism sometimes, most of those on-field commentators tend to be. You can't just waltz out and put an extempore question to someone, palaver with them and not fluff it if you're an idiot.

Here Comes Saturday Night!
October 9th, 2023 at 10:24 AM ^
Are you sure NBC? I would imagine OSU @ PSU in the prime slot.
October 9th, 2023 at 10:26 AM ^
Fox already claimed that game for Big Noon. NBC gets second pick and took this game.
October 9th, 2023 at 10:26 AM ^
You don’t recall Michael Robinson, a Heisman trophy finalist and Big Ten player of the year from Penn State (who was on the other side of the Henne-to-Manningham/2 seconds game)?
He’s actually a great color guy.
October 9th, 2023 at 10:46 AM ^
IIRC our own Nicole Auerbach also moonlights for NBC college football too now.
That said, I generally hate night games on the road. I'm not worried about this trash team vs our very good team, but there's always that 1% devil on my shoulder...
Having said that, I will not be able to watch this game since I will be flying home from Canadia from a visit to my brother. The last time I did that on a football weekend was also a night game vs MSU which was the 2017 shit show, whose score I found out immediately after deplaning. To make matters worse, the other football game that happened that week while I was away was vs Indiana... who we also play this Saturday when I'm also away.
So mods: if things do so south in two weeks, you have my blessing to permanently ether me to Bolivia for poking the football gods and not learning my lesson.

Get the in-flight wifi. Depending upon the satellite provider, you may be able to stream video, but even on the lowest-bandwidth planes I've been able to keep up reasonably well to the audio feed on the Varsity Network app.
Don't tempt fate, man. Not this year. :)
October 9th, 2023 at 12:20 PM ^
so.... your plan is to spike my anxiety levels while I'm 3,000 feet in the air in a metal cylinder with 150 strangers?
October 9th, 2023 at 12:37 PM ^
Gotta take one for the team, man. The team, the team, the team. ;)
October 9th, 2023 at 10:55 AM ^
Yeah I recall him. But I couldn't pick him out of a line-up. Out of the four people they had standing at a desk as I guess "experts" I could only identify Maria Taylor. I've got no prob with Blackledge as an analyst - better than most. But overall I would say the NBC B1G Saturday Night was not ready for Prime Time. My whole fucking point. Although they did manage to out the one Michigan player who didn't get in the game - by name. Which I thought was hilarious.
October 9th, 2023 at 11:23 AM ^
I mentioned this in the coaching snowflake thread, but I think it's worth bringing it up again because I didn't get an answer.
Did they use a clip / live shot of Minnesota fans going crazy while some idiot was beating on an NBC Big Saturday Night bass drum? And, if so, could you tell it was recorded during the national anthem? Two days later and I'm still angry. I don't blame the students, but whatever producer set up the timing on that needs a stern talking-to. There is no way that NBC should not have known when the anthem would be played -- these things are scripted.
October 9th, 2023 at 11:55 AM ^
IMO, Blackledge is a mediocre color guy at best. It seems like he barely knows the players (e.g., he called Josaiah Stewart an elite pass rusher because he had just made a play), and he never breaks down any schemes (just "wow, look at that great play" filler).
Anyway, I agree that NBC's product is pretty crappy. It seems like they took the B/C-tier from ESPN and paid them like A-tier.
October 9th, 2023 at 10:41 AM ^
Matt Cassel looks like Brady Quinn's older, dumber brother
Joshua Perry has done a nice job advancing his career
October 9th, 2023 at 8:24 PM ^
Funny, Cassel was Leinart’s back-up at USC. Ironically he’s kind of in the same position in his broadcasting career.
October 9th, 2023 at 10:48 AM ^
Maria Taylor was a fixture on ESPN CFB and NBA coverage.
Joshua Perry did great work at BTN.
I didn't know Cassell and Robinson were doing analyst work. Robinson seems good, Cassell seems like just a guy.
October 9th, 2023 at 11:13 AM ^
I wish Maria Taylor (who was Erin Andrews replacement on GameDay) would replace Jess Simms, who is an absolute ass and couldn't spell F-O-O-T-B-A-L-L if someone wrote it out on paper for her to read.
October 10th, 2023 at 5:30 PM ^
She was in that spot until there was quite the kerfuffle at ESPN. She wisely chose to exit rather than deal with the office politics there.
October 9th, 2023 at 10:52 AM ^
Joshua Perry is great, and is up there with spielman for b*ckeyes i appreciate
October 9th, 2023 at 11:01 AM ^
Joshua Perry might have some interesting perspectives - but, he's just as "anti-Michigan" as Urban Meyer. I think Perry can bring up good points on other teams / games - but, has great difficulty saying anything complimentary about Michigan, and - when it comes to The Game (and that week) forget about it.
For The Game - Perry makes Desmond Howard look balanced and objective.
October 9th, 2023 at 1:20 PM ^
He literally said on Saturday night that Michigan was the best team in the country.
