Joel Klatt says there is tension with Jim Harbaugh
Cherish Harbaugh while we have him. How do we get Warde to walk out the door? Sounds like he’s going to lose us another coach walk.

after we win a national title
October 4th, 2023 at 8:23 PM ^
Only Harbaugh knows what Harbaugh is going to do, and maybe not even him. :)
October 4th, 2023 at 8:53 PM ^
JH inherited a decent roster here, thanks to hoke. not loaded, but also not a bare cupboard like most (just ask the next guy up for sparty....), either.
'harb' and 'natty':
EDIT: apparently you edited out those words. good on you.
October 4th, 2023 at 9:44 PM ^
I value my neck a lot more than that, chief. I'll find him for 3, but I'll catch him and sign him for ten. We better make up our minds. Do we want to keep our coach? Better ante up. We want to play it cheap? Be on welfare the whole off-season.
October 4th, 2023 at 10:10 PM ^
The whole Klatt thing is warmed over rehash. We all know Harbaugh believes he has unfinished business in the NFL. And he will scratch that itch when he is offered the right deal with the right franchise. We all know that Harbaugh is a Michigan loyalist but can be difficult to work with and alienate people around him. None of this is new. We’ve known it all since he came back in 2015.
October 5th, 2023 at 9:01 AM ^
Robbie Moore has it right.
What's the common factor in this equation? Harbaugh has had conflict with "management" almost everywhere he's been.
He probably views Warde as being "middle management." And probably prefers to deal with "the man"...rather than a middle manager.
This is more on Harbaugh than it is on Warde.
October 5th, 2023 at 9:47 AM ^
This seems to be more of the same from early in the year when Santa Ono had to step in and get the deal done to keep the coaching staff intact. As was reported at the time, Harbaugh was frustrated with the lack of pay for his staff and Warde's reluctance to embrace NIL and position UM to be competitive in that space. Just like the rest of us watching UM struggle with NIL and recruiting top talent.
October 4th, 2023 at 10:15 PM ^
You have city hands, Mr. Manuel. You been countin' money all your life.
October 4th, 2023 at 10:31 PM ^
Agreed. If you forget football and wins and losses and approach it from a business decision, why wouldn’t you pony up? Go back to a half empty big house beating UMass 61-50? Please just help yourself.
October 4th, 2023 at 10:43 PM ^
I don’t think paying Harbaugh around 9 million is being cheap
October 4th, 2023 at 9:50 PM ^
The OL was in shambles after 2016, because of Hoke's poor recruiting in his last 2 years. Yes the OL was decent with seniors in 2016 and the D was great. But when all of Hoke's first 2 year recruiting classes left, Jim had a big recruiting shore to build depth on both lines. It took a while and many wanted to get rid of Harbaugh after the COVID season. I'm glad Jim bounced back and made us into a top 5 team the last few years. Now it's time for Jim to get his Natty. I hope he stays no matter what happens the remainder of this season..

Joel Klatt is trying to divert attention away from his network pal Urban to MSU rumor and pal Brady Quinn on X non-starter MSU face palm.
Fox is like, talk about something else, never happened. We are literally obligated to broadcast these Spartan fools well into the future. This is getting awkward.
Classic "turn the page" PR.
October 4th, 2023 at 11:33 PM ^
That's some real tinfoil-hat thinking there.
Why can't Joel Klatt be just talking football, like he always does?
October 4th, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
Because it is an old story and it is just a few hours after urban, quinn and feldman played duck hunt on Sparty.
I think it was a small favor. IE he isn’t going to discuss it. I could be wrong.

The “Green Wall”
we sound like the younger male sibling.
October 5th, 2023 at 8:10 AM ^
Actually, a top 3 team the last couple of years. Only 2 more rungs on the ladder to climb.
October 5th, 2023 at 1:21 PM ^
OL problems traced to RichRod who had a class with only one mediocre lineman.
October 5th, 2023 at 9:19 AM ^
Good, but not really decent no deep, and the skill positions (Especially QB) were sorely lacking. That's why we had 2 transfer QB's Harbaugh's 1st 4 years here.
Russell Bellomy and Wilton Speight, C'mon Man!

Remember when we thought Peters, Mccaffrey, and Milton were going to be the 'next guy'? Those were the days.
October 5th, 2023 at 8:16 PM ^
you forgot ruuuddddoooccckkk.
October 5th, 2023 at 11:02 AM ^
I say this now, in the moment, but I think I actually mean it: if Michigan were to win a national championship this season, I think that would tide me over the rest of my days. (Now, as I am almost 50, I understand that the sentiment might not be shared by the younger folks here.)
I also freely admit that my opinion might change next season. 😉
October 4th, 2023 at 7:48 PM ^
He's most likely gone after this season. I think most have accepted that. Harbaugh to the Bears. Then we can go hire Kalen DeBoer.
October 4th, 2023 at 7:51 PM ^
I refuse to accept it. Get spineless Warde out and make sure Harbaugh retires from Michigan.
October 4th, 2023 at 7:53 PM ^
I didn't want to accept it either.
October 4th, 2023 at 10:43 PM ^
Redacted.
October 4th, 2023 at 10:50 PM ^
We lose 60% of production to the NFL and MSU is hiring Saban Urban Belichick as trio of head coaches for $95M a year. Fuck it all.
October 4th, 2023 at 8:07 PM ^
Harbaugh isn't going there unless he gets to make their first two picks. But maybe they'd let him.
October 4th, 2023 at 8:43 PM ^
jj and blake? ugh.
October 4th, 2023 at 9:44 PM ^
Hasn't JJ always insisted that he'll be here for four years?
October 5th, 2023 at 7:33 AM ^
LOL, you sweet, sweet boy.
October 5th, 2023 at 12:04 PM ^
Awww....bless your lil heart
October 5th, 2023 at 4:12 PM ^
I don't care what he can accomplish by the end of this year. If Harbaugh stays, NIL still continues to pan out well, and Michigan doesn't win a national championship this year, then JJ McCarthy is definitely going to have a hell of a senior year. And if they do win the national championship then there's an extremely high likelihood JJ McCarthy will be playing for 2 next year.
October 4th, 2023 at 8:47 PM ^
Williams and Harrison, Jr? I
October 5th, 2023 at 10:33 AM ^
Call me crazy but I dont think MHJ is the best out there.
October 5th, 2023 at 10:48 AM ^
You're crazy. MHJ is the best WR prospect in years (if not decades), as much as I hate to say it
October 5th, 2023 at 12:24 PM ^
Names?
October 5th, 2023 at 12:29 PM ^
Right now the Bears have the first 2 overall picks. They have Carolina's pick and both are 0 - 4.
October 4th, 2023 at 8:07 PM ^
I don't want to accept it but my general sense is that Coach Harbaugh is sort of in the same space that Coach Beilein in that he is tired of the hassle that comes with coaching in college. UM's general sluggishness to adapt to NIL along with a culture that is divided somewhere between "fire the money cannon if we're in we're in and let's go dominate" and "this is a university and football and major money sports are still just too dirty". I think President Ono is trying to combat that but the Board of Regents reflects that range of opinions and it makes things harder and requires him to take a 3 game suspension as internal politics to appease the clown show in the NCAA. And so for a guy who wants to WIN at some point he looks at it and says "I don't have to deal with this stuff in the NFL even if I really love Michigan I am fighting stuff here that people I compete with don't have to fight". I could be wrong and I hope he stays because he is such a great fit for Michigan and really cares about his players; but I wouldn't be surprised if this was his last season with us.
October 4th, 2023 at 9:06 PM ^
Well, here he has full control and authority. In the pros he has very little, especially with regard to personnel.
October 5th, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
Uh, yeah. I don't think he'll see or understand that until he makes the move and finds out what he probably didn't learn from John Beilein's experience. He'd be an absolute fool to do it but he's a grown man.
Maybe I'm being a little harsh towards him. But if I am it's because of how badly I want him to stay. He's just about everything Michigan needs in its head coach. Someone who can be serious but also an absolute goofball. He can be cheeky about other coaches but at the same time is respectful of and insightful into them. He praises and is proud of his players and staff and raises them up instead of ever putting them down. You know that whole "do what you love" thing? Yeah, that's Jim Harbaugh.
But he is a grown man. And if the crappy officials, stupid rules, and amoral people are too much for him then let him fucking leave. He changing things for the better and if he can't truly understand that then he does need to leave. If "Those Who Stay Will be Champions" comes down to a National Championship to him this year or never, let him leave. If that's all it means to him then that's all it means to me. He can leave and I'll be done with him.
October 5th, 2023 at 8:48 AM ^
can we...get rid of the board of rejects? What do they even do
October 5th, 2023 at 10:36 AM ^
They're sitting on their asses collecting a paycheck like the rest of the politicians.
October 4th, 2023 at 9:13 PM ^
While I tend to agree he's probably gone after this season, the self-imposed suspension ironically gives me hope. There was no reason for Harbaugh/Michigan to do that if he plans to be in the NFL next year, where the NCAA can't touch him.
October 5th, 2023 at 11:12 AM ^
He possibly did that because the inevitable is needing a great coach after him, some practice on who it could be next year.
October 4th, 2023 at 9:49 PM ^
If Harbaugh goes 0.500 with Justin Fields it will be the greatest coaching achievement in NFL history.
October 5th, 2023 at 2:46 AM ^
Is that points per game?
October 5th, 2023 at 8:48 AM ^
Enough money would make him stop trying to go back to the NFL.
October 5th, 2023 at 9:22 AM ^
I have accepted that this is Harbaugh's curtain call. I hope he playcalls like it is in November and January.
October 4th, 2023 at 7:51 PM ^
Jim is gone in January. He'll be the new Bears head coach. Best prepare yourselves.
October 4th, 2023 at 7:54 PM ^
Why are we letting this happen? We shouldn’t just accept it. Go to the root of the problem and get Warde out!
