Cade… what have you gotten yourself into? Epic PSU-Iowa stats
Look at some of these nutso stats from the Iowa “game” (using that word euphemistically) last night:
**Iowa had the same number of turnovers as first downs (four)
**Penn State scored just two more points than Iowa had offensive plays (31 to 33)
**Penn State had more rushing attempts (57) than Iowa had passing yards (56)
**Iowa’s total rushing yards (20) were nearly matched on one rush by Penn State running back Nicholas Singleton (19 yard long)
**Iowa had six total fumbles (four lost)
**Penn State QB Drew Allar nearly had as many passing attempts (37) as Iowa QB Cade McNamara had passing yards
**Iowa posted a total of 20 rushing yards on 17 attempts (0.8 yards per attempt)
Brian Frerentz has turned a functional QB like Cade into hawkpoop. Yeah I knkw they were down their beat TE and both RBs… but srsly. And now Brian is waaay behind his 25 pt/game threshold… if Daddy Kirk even lets him finish the year. Oh who are we kidding, he probably will get a job promotion this week for effort.
Btw… if this is not a new level of a “Rutger” then it should be.
September 24th, 2023 at 1:31 PM ^
The only explanation I can think of is that the players are trying to actively sabotage Brian Ferentz.
September 24th, 2023 at 1:54 PM ^
He does not need any help.
September 24th, 2023 at 2:33 PM ^
Or Brian Ferentz is actively sabotaging Brian Ferentz without Brian Ferentz realizing it.
September 24th, 2023 at 6:20 PM ^
Brian Ferentz is Tyler Durden.
September 24th, 2023 at 8:19 PM ^
Shhhhh, not supposed to talk about.....well, you know.
September 24th, 2023 at 8:45 PM ^
Blight Club?
September 24th, 2023 at 9:26 PM ^
Brian Ferentz is aware but not fully aware of how bad of a football coach Brian Ferentz is
September 25th, 2023 at 12:48 AM ^
The perfect crime.
September 25th, 2023 at 9:38 AM ^
Let's get Colombo in on this.
September 24th, 2023 at 2:49 PM ^
Maybe his new performance objectives are too demanding.
It's time to ask for daddy Kirk to "tweak" his contract again.
September 24th, 2023 at 2:56 PM ^
It is really hard to have any respect for Kirk Ferentz to continue to allow this to happen.
Definition of insanity. I would have lost my mind by now if I was an Iowa fan.
You would think at some point Phil Parker would say sorry Kirk but it’s him or me.
September 25th, 2023 at 4:16 AM ^
Had to look up who Phil Parker was. Seems like he should be a candidate for the MSU opening. What's his story?
September 24th, 2023 at 1:31 PM ^
Karma's a bitch, cade....
September 24th, 2023 at 1:34 PM ^
Thought same thing.
September 24th, 2023 at 1:41 PM ^
Erick All too, while we're at it. Maybe our team doctors weren't idiots.
September 24th, 2023 at 3:00 PM ^
Nah, I'm a Cade fan. Hope he has a good year. Dude plays one of the only positions in football where if you don't start you don't play, and he wants to play. Nothing wrong with that.
Plus, after what he did in 2021, taking us to the four-team playoffs ... it's not surprising he was disappointed to lose his starting job, and he vented a bit.
All in all, he does not deserve this. Yegads, that Iowa offensive line is terrible.
September 24th, 2023 at 3:04 PM ^
I used to think this until the stuff came out about Cade giving JJ the cold shoulder from the minute he stepped on campus. (Per MMQB with DG and Sam, and apparently reported by other sources, JJ texted Cade that he was excited to learn from him and Cade just ghosted him.)
September 24th, 2023 at 3:58 PM ^
So what? Cade was the starter and JJ was everyone's favorite before he even stepped on campus. The 5* everything that was going to out-do anything done to that point. Everyone had given JJ the job already. So Cade had a 'prove it, Mr Perfect' attitude. If you had continued to read on you would've seen that the relationship grew and they were friendly by the time he left.
Stop reading so much vitriol into everything you see.
September 25th, 2023 at 8:19 AM ^
Tom Brady welcomed 5* QB Drew Henson when he was the starter and just worked harder... And I like Cade also.. sometimes you just gotta keep your mouth quiet...
September 25th, 2023 at 9:18 AM ^
Pretty amazing, eh?
I don't think it's reasonable to hold Cade to the GOAT's standards.
September 25th, 2023 at 12:08 PM ^
Being friendly and cooperative to your teammate shouldn't be some exceptional GOAT thing. It should be the general expectation.
September 25th, 2023 at 8:58 AM ^
What really made me dislike him was after he got hurt he was not on the sideline for any of the games supporting JJ or the team. He lost the starting job then he checked out, took his ball and went home.
September 24th, 2023 at 3:12 PM ^
I held this same sentiment until that press conference video came out recently.
September 24th, 2023 at 3:29 PM ^
Dennis,
are you not aware of the story that Cade divided the QB room and gave JJ no help or you don’t believe Sam/DG/separate reporter that’s what happened?
Cade has a duty to the team/program to help his teammates, especially at his position. He risked a lot of damage to Harbaugh’s program culture by ghosting JJ and everything else Sam and DG discussed. Good thing Hutchinson wasn’t as entitled as Cade so he could help MacGregor and others.
September 24th, 2023 at 3:40 PM ^
Looking back to 2021, Cade had a superior OL plus Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum at RB. Cade had Ronnie Bell, AJ Henning and even a young Roman Wilson then Eric All at TE. Cade made some great plays on his own that season but playing with a B1G Champ and CFP semi team really helped his stats.
Iowa, unfortunately, is nowhere near what Cade had in 2021 at Michigan. I just hope that Cade does not end up with a serious injury this season at Iowa. Last night at Happy Valley, Cade was unable to spark the Iowa offense on his own. I was hoping he could.
September 24th, 2023 at 4:48 PM ^
Cade is also better than functional.
September 24th, 2023 at 10:04 PM ^
Is he really though?
I’ve never thought Cade was anything more than an average QB at Michigan. Gun to my head, I can’t say he sticks out from the Gardner, Rudock, Speight, Shea group. If anything he’s a bit behind those guys. Some fans just have an over-inflated opinion of him because of the accomplishments of the team while he was here.
What we’re seeing is what Cade looks like when he isn’t surrounded by an elite running game, elite OL, AND an elite defense. He needs everything around him to be working for him to be a “good” QB. And keeping in mind that his “good” season resulted in 15 passing TDs in 14 games. Without the ideal setup, he’s merely a functional QB. He’s not inherently bad but he’s not good enough to drive an offense either.
September 24th, 2023 at 6:01 PM ^
As bad as yesterday was, I really hope Cade and Iowa get their shit together before the next game. Check the schedule.
September 24th, 2023 at 6:14 PM ^
If it was only McNamara wanting to play, no one would have a problem with him, because wanting to play instead of watch, especially after what he accomplished, is perfectly understandable. It was 100% the way he went about it. He acted like he was entitled to keep the job and made sure to get his digs on the much more talented McCarthy whenever he could. All pout, no class. I wonder if his delusion is giving way to reality.
September 24th, 2023 at 9:31 PM ^
His dad was meddling and made shit worse for Cade. Not sure what would possess a QB who thinks he’s NFL worthy to willingly go to Iowa which hasn’t had a workable offense in decades but he’s tanking his chances and can’t say I feel bad after his attitude and recent comments. He could’ve had all of Michigan rooting for him if he wasn’t an entitled bitch who burned his bridges when he wasn’t anointed the starter
September 24th, 2023 at 9:51 PM ^
This is a crazy and pathetic take. His dad suggested he transfer after 2021 because JJ was going to start. He knew his kid wanted to play and that he wasn’t going to play at Michigan. Cade should have heeded that advice.
McNamara isn’t perfect but calling him a “bitch” is bush league and childish. He represented this school well when he was here and these personal insulting things being said about him are bullshit.
September 25th, 2023 at 8:03 AM ^
I don't think anyone on here argues against Cade's decision to leave. It was what came our of his and his father's mouth after he left that pissed off many of us. As others here have said, we would have had a great deal of respect for him had he simply kept his mouth shut.
September 25th, 2023 at 8:58 AM ^
Sounds like the youngest Forcier brother.
September 24th, 2023 at 3:03 PM ^
This is some serious grudge holding here.
I just can’t figure out why a QB transfers to Iowa. Go anywhere else. Anywhere. Cal? Sure. Fresno State? You betcha. Boston College? Lets me think this out. Ok, That’s a yes.
Iowa??? No. No sir.
September 24th, 2023 at 3:28 PM ^
He should have jumped on the Oregon State opening while he he had the chance. Great o line, great running game, solid defense. And not too far from his hometown of Reno, NV. Oops.
September 24th, 2023 at 6:17 PM ^
He wanted to find a school where he was guaranteed the starting job. With that criteria, Iowa was most likely his only Power 5 option. His ego likely prevented from going to a lesser school.
September 24th, 2023 at 3:59 PM ^
But damn, Karma can really dance on a pole though. I’ll give her that!
(Oh, we’re talking about different things, nvmd)
September 24th, 2023 at 4:27 PM ^
Cade chose UM, won you the 2021 OSU game and together with All win the 2021 PSU game and some of you bad mouth him for wanting to play? You may be nice in other ways but in this way you are awful.
September 24th, 2023 at 4:31 PM ^
won you the 2021 OSU game
He was 13-19 for 159 yards, no TDs and one momentum-killing INT. I think our run game and defense won it a little bit more than he did.
September 24th, 2023 at 4:38 PM ^
Cade Rules: When the team wins, Cade did it. When the team loses, it's everyone's fault but Cade's.
September 24th, 2023 at 5:19 PM ^
CLord,
I can’t speak for others but my issue with Cade is not him wanting to go somewhere to play. Certainly nobody is making threads about NHG or Alan Bowman, or Eyabi.
My issue is specifically about how Cade treated others while he was at Michigan and how he went out of his way to publicly speak badly about as many aspects of the program as he could on his way out.
I take issue with, “Cade won the 2021 OSU/PSU games.” Cade played fine. Ish. M won those games as a team with a lot of excellent contributions from a lot of players. In 2022 it’s now clear that M won despite Cade’s negative impact on team culture, especially JJ.
September 25th, 2023 at 12:51 AM ^
It was much more than that.
When they left they maliciously bad mouthed the coaches and team in general. They intentionally tried to damage the program. For that, I am not dis-satisfied that Karma caught up with them.
September 25th, 2023 at 6:38 AM ^
In that interview, he brought up two things. First, that he did not think his knee injury was managed properly at Michigan. It may not have been. Second, that NIL at Michigan is disorganized and not competitive with other schools, even a school like Iowa. While we may not believe it to be that extent, people around here are always critical of NIL at Michigan.
I just don’t think this constitutes just firehosing the program and staff. In the interview after his game against Colorado State, he said that the decision to make two starters was “different.” That isn’t saying much. Could he have smiles the biggest smile and said “whatever is better for the team” after losing a starting job he had for 1.5 years? Yes, he could have. But I think you are looking for superhuman levels of selflessness there.
September 24th, 2023 at 7:33 PM ^
Haskins won the 2021 ohio game, he and an awesome offensive line.
September 25th, 2023 at 8:10 AM ^
Michigan lives rent free in Cade's head, and he makes it known. The dude cant keep the negativity against the University out of his mouth... so he spoiled his legacy himself.
September 24th, 2023 at 5:15 PM ^
I couldn't be happier for Cade and ErkAll
September 24th, 2023 at 6:02 PM ^
karma is my offensive coordinator.
September 24th, 2023 at 6:05 PM ^
I watched some of that game. Cade looks like a shell of his former self. A QB that was the starter for a Big championship now looks like a poor QB Like he should be playing FCS football
September 24th, 2023 at 11:16 PM ^
So he looks like a typical Iowa quarterback? That's a shame, and I mean that in all seriousness.
September 24th, 2023 at 11:26 PM ^
TBH, he looked like that for UM last season. Something is off, but he has talent. Hope he can mature and be successful. Won't happen at Iowa, tho. That move was a decision that should have him questioning anyone that told him it was a good idea (including Cade).
