Top 10 WR Gatlin Bair breaks down his top five and 〽️ is on it.
Hopefully watching fellow Idaho star Colston Loveland playing in the CFP as a freshman hasn't gone unnoticed.

His tweets about Colston are almost the only ones that are not about himself. Must count for something:
From Idaho, a Michigan feeder state. It's in the bag.

Don Beebe Jr.?
Fred Jackson voice: Gatlin is already bigger and faster than Don. (Really -- he is.)
He's 2 inches taller, 5 pounds less.
Beebe also ran a 4.25 40 at the NFL combine.
Calling 5 fakes outta 5 on that time. Hand timed.
Put a 6’2”/180 lb kid with that kind of god-given speed in our S&C program along side Jadyn Davis and you have some shit going on. Yes please, while I’m still kicking.
Speaking of JD, where are all these WR commits that GOJ claimed "are 'comin" with him?
They are with ak, dh, and lt. If BH and AB hadn't scared them away, we'd have one a natty. Should get some good news from tp and once Cass Tech's JC gets out of jail, MSU is going to show us what's up. Tuck something or other.
Cass Tech = CT
Tuck = MT
Just to clarify for those used to these posts.
I would go check the recruiting sites premium boards as that is where GoJ gets his info from.
Am I confusing recruits? Is this the young man that intends on completing a 2 year Mormon mission?
It is. He would really be a '26 recruit for whoever gets him.
April 17th, 2023 at 12:20 AM ^
Send a pasta chef and trainer with him on his mission.
April 17th, 2023 at 11:57 AM ^
Also maybe a master steak griller and a cow for whole milk.
This makes me about 85% less excited about this recruitment. Would most likely have to recruit him all over again in '26 after he returns.
Didja notice that the southern latitude of Idaho and Michigan are approximately the same?
It's a sign. Come on over.

Hanging out with Jack would be a good time.
If I could get him to do Col. Nathan Jessep from A Few Good Men so I could see that in person my life would be complete.
Well, that and an evening with Margot Robbie. Wolf of Wall Street... Babylon... I'm sorry... what were we talking about?
Jack just turned 86 and has not left his home in 18 months, not sure it's as good a time as you are imagining. Course he does have 24-hour nurse care.
April 17th, 2023 at 10:24 AM ^
You're right. It wouldn't quite go like I imagined anymore. Time gets us all, even the great ones. I'd still visit him.
Keith Jackson on the other hand... it would still be fun to hang out with him.

Ah shit, I got some bad news for you on that last bit...

Bair: necessity
...i'll see myself out

ok ok i could be more helpful. let's parse out his statements on the alphabetical 5:
Boise State: "Boise state develops as good as any elite program and I would have the opportunity to change the program."
Michigan: "I have a good relationship with the staff and they do a great job developing players and getting guys in the NFL."
Nebraska: "I really like the people at Nebraska and Lincoln itself. Coach (Matt) Rhule and the entire staff have a great vision for the program."
Oregon: "Oregon has done a great job recruiting me and I think I would bring a different skill set to their wide receiver room."
TCU: "TCU develops and utilize speed very well and coach (Doug) Meacham has a record for producing first and second round picks."

If we were to judge how likely Michigan will be his choice by this statement, I wouldn't be holding my breath. His reference to Michigan was perfunctory and devoid of any real enthusiasm.

Go Baloo! Thanks, that was pretty low hanging fruit.

Nice that these young kids are taking notice that we can consistently get guys in the NFL

Gatlin is also a track star. He just beat Nyckoles Harbor in a national meet in the 100M. (10.18 vs 10.33). He was insanely productive as a junior. Michigan offered him in 2022 before he dominated as a junior.

Like Denard... but taller and faster. (10.44 at 2009 Florida Track & Field Championships)
FWIW, ON3 has a lot of predictions to the Huskers. Might be a tough pull
I tend to not trust On3's prediction machine as of yet. It seems like one prediction (there website is all jacked up on my computer) was made yesterday and now they are at 92%.
Also, I heard he may be taking a mission trip so he wouldn't be suiting up until 2026 (IIRC).
Are we sure Nebraska will still have a football program by 2026? Feels like Rhule might be their last hope
Idaho - the new Massachusetts

We are killing it in Idaho....
...and Ohio
Maybe we could use Gatlin as a gunner?
Is that a Gatling gun?

FANTASTIC MODEL 1883 GATLING GUN - 'Manufactured by Colt's Pat. F.A. Mfg. Co. & U.S. Government Inspected'. Rarely in the field of firearm collecting does an opportunity to purchase, at public auction, an offering of this rarity and importance present itself. First invented in 1862 when Richard Jordan Gatling took out a patent for his mechanical gun, by the time he developed this model it was capable of firing 1,200 rounds per minute. Singularly important in revolutionizing warfare, the Gatling Gun's basic mechanism is still used today on ship and aircraft guns. Gatling started a new wave of engineering and invention and changed the face of war forever.

Nice thing about recruiting idaho is the winter is far worse here than michigan. Also a lot of these kids moved here from California, Texas. None of my neighbors are from Idaho. So it's a mixed bag of out of town unknown talent. Competition isn't as good but there's still definitely diamond's buried on rosters here from kids who got moved around.
April 17th, 2023 at 10:05 AM ^
C'mon man. Idaho winters regardless of region are better than SE Michigan. If it's so bad, why the influx of CA and TX clowns? If you're running a campaign to keep telling those idiots to stay put, I get it... Idaho's Full!
Burley is warmer and more sun in Dec/Jan, but generally it's a wash...

Wishing Gatlin the best as he goes through the process and reaches his decision.
And - just a small reminder - if you're going to "go somewhere" - remember, the best place is .. to Go Blue!

In the CBS sports article on this topic, The CBS article noted that a West Coast recruiting 'guru' stated Gatlin and Loveland are good friends. Thus the connection and the pull. Sorry I do not have the link to said file, I received the update on my phone...
Another connection is that Loveland's high school football coach is now Bair's high school football coach.
And tagging along with the comments above, having spent half of my life in Michigan and half in Idaho, Idaho's winters are typically much milder and shorter than Michigan's winters.

In addition to friendship with Loveland and the relationship between our staff/his school's staff, it probably doesn't hurt that we have a post-mission guy also on the roster right now, a comfort level that the staff already understands what that entails and that he might need some time to ramp back up after he finishes the mission.
