Jim out helping AAPD move down tree
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:17 PM ^
Great, now Oakland, Denver and TruGreen and are all in play…
February 24th, 2023 at 9:18 AM ^
Asplundh is coming with a sweet NIL deal.
February 24th, 2023 at 9:27 PM ^
Way over their heads. Well done sir.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:18 PM ^
Ryan Day would never
February 23rd, 2023 at 6:23 PM ^
Ryan Day would wait until they're done and then stand by it and take a selfie of "his" handiwork. He might take a 100 of them. Not all at once.
February 23rd, 2023 at 7:47 PM ^
I see what you did there.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:18 PM ^
get a chainsaw Jim. it'll go faster
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:21 PM ^
I don't think Coach is allowed to use chainsaws. I know that I, for one, wouldn't feel comfortable in a world where Jim has a chainsaw...
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
If you, of all clowns, is not comfortable with Jim having a chainsaw, that says something.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:22 PM ^
Perfect. Then he would forever be Chainsaw Jim Harbaugh.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:25 PM ^
A chainsaw makes it too easy.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:47 PM ^
Honestly, seems like an obvious off-season teambuilding opportunity that I'm surprised he missed
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
At the end of the Big Ten Network documentary on the 1997 team, Marcus Ray says he was surprised coach gave the team pick axes because he was sure someone was going to get hurt or killed. I'm guessing logging saws are even more of a hazard.
February 23rd, 2023 at 9:26 PM ^
Only if they are near the Tunnel. Then "Chucky" level possession will ensue. I've seen it happen.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:51 PM ^
Bragging a little—okay, bragging a lot—on a day off in my forest fire fighting summers, I used an axe to chop down a tree before another guy on the crew downed his tree with a chain saw.
February 23rd, 2023 at 5:00 PM ^
I'm sure your sapling never stood a chance against that giant redwood. ;-)
February 23rd, 2023 at 8:21 PM ^
How'd you know?!
Actually, the trees were the same size but it WAS chosen to make a closer contest.
If it had been a diameter of 5" or more, the chain saw easily wins. Also, if it had been a sapling, a single swipe of the chain saw would have felled it.
BUT about 3"-4"? That made the contest almost even. So me cutting as fast as I could, and the guy with the chain saw making a slightly wrong cut, and—ta da!—I won!
As fishgoblue below put it, I'm John Henry. (I was too modest to make the claim myself. Notice how modest I am?)
February 24th, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
That you, blue vet?
Seriously, though, watching those lumberjack competitions is a great way to waste away a lazy Saturday afternoon.
February 23rd, 2023 at 7:34 PM ^
He only has a jackhammer
February 24th, 2023 at 1:23 PM ^
Think you mean jackhammer
February 26th, 2023 at 9:21 AM ^
No chainsaws.
Only jackhammers.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:25 PM ^
Somehow, someone at the NCAA will argue that this was a recruiting violation.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:26 PM ^
Don't even put that out there. Ha!
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:27 PM ^
Was Mateen Cleaves in the van?
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:25 PM ^
Someone had their chocolate milk that morning.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:29 PM ^
Pretty interesting career trajectory—from owning a very successful imported car dealership in A2 to Ann Arbor police officer.
February 23rd, 2023 at 11:53 PM ^
ha i was thinking the same... but maybe son of the car dealer?
February 24th, 2023 at 8:04 AM ^
He needed a break from his shuttle van driving.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:31 PM ^
"Harbaugh out there hotdogging again for attention. What an ego on that guy! He needs to focus on winning a playoff game!"
-Paul Finebaum, probably
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:59 PM ^
"Pete" Finebaum.
February 24th, 2023 at 8:05 AM ^
Feet Pinebottom.
February 23rd, 2023 at 6:06 PM ^
Bet the rcmb has a comment first.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:32 PM ^
The Michi–, er Harbaugh Difference.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
OP, you spoiled the surprise. If there was a thread that called for a clickbaity headline ("You'll never guess who was helping the AAPD clear fallen trees!") it's this one.
But a very cool thing.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
1) Moving downed trees in the dark gives me the willies. Great way to get electrocuted, so I'm glad everything turned out fine here.
2) My first thought was it's weird that AAPD is essentially telling everyone where Harbaugh lives, but then I realized that if there was anyone in Ann Arbor that I'd expect to be driving around in a storm in a van looking for trees to move, it's Harbaugh, so he could really live anywhere. Maybe grab a bunch of players and make it a team bonding thing.
February 23rd, 2023 at 5:45 PM ^
The keystone cops were actually based on the wacky clowns down at the AAPD
February 24th, 2023 at 11:36 AM ^
Until the SEC has “tree removal bonding experiences in storms” outlawed.
February 27th, 2023 at 10:18 AM ^
I mean, who on MGoBlog hasn’t tailed Harbaugh home from Schembechler Hall to find where he lives?
I don’t think AAPD is telling us anything we don’t already know
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
The bracing wind cut through the Ann Arbor night. Officer Cooper pulled his uniform coat tighter around himself and looked at the Good Samaritan who'd helped him move the tree.
"Thanks Coach, and um... great season."
Jim Harbaugh didn't reply. He stood in front of Cooper's vehicle, silhouetted against the flashing blue and red lights, facing the wind's chill bite in silent defiance.
"So, um...that was a pretty big tree huh?"
Harbaugh walked over to the fallen tree, snapped off a branch, and started to chew it. After a few contemplative minutes, he spat out the wood pulp with a pensive expression.
"This was a three hundred year old bur oak (Quercus macrocarpa) It was a mere sapling when the Washtenaw tribe negotiated hunting rights with the neighboring Ojibwa at this very spot. Ann Rumsey and Ann Allen, the wives of this town's founders first met here for tea. It has stood through two world wars, and a hundred and forty three seasons of football. And now its watch has ended."
He tipped his hat towards the fallen oak, as if to pay tribute to a vanquished foe, handed the unchewed portion of the branch to the other man, and strode off into the night.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:47 PM ^
Ok, I've turned the page. What happened next?
February 23rd, 2023 at 5:35 PM ^
Since I'm no Ernest Hemingway (who is probably the most Harbaughest American novelist I can think of) I must regretfully leave that as an exercise for you, dear reader.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:45 PM ^
Interesting comments at the end from Jim about "spreading the word around" about him "being a good guy", and "you don't need to keep that to yourself". Maybe his feelings really were, and still are, hurt from fan reactions to the first part of his tenure at Michigan and the 2020 season results.
February 23rd, 2023 at 5:30 PM ^
Lol or just some standard dad joke type banter. I can hear my grandpa saying the exact same thing.
February 23rd, 2023 at 4:47 PM ^
"Hey, feel free to spread the word on that."
Enjoyin' some unfiltered Harbaugh.
February 23rd, 2023 at 5:14 PM ^
I didn't catch that the guy he was helping was AAPD. I kept thinking, "Why doesn't this douchebag put his cell phone down so he can move the tree?" ...but it was his body cam. That's pretty fantastic.
February 23rd, 2023 at 5:17 PM ^
They clearly needed xm there to either push it out of the way with his tractor or the combined strength of his kids.
February 23rd, 2023 at 9:49 PM ^
Or his highly trained team of ox to drag the tree out of the way 🐃🐃🐃
