Proudest Day of My Life/CONGRATS TO THE NEWEST WOLVERINES
As much as I'd tell you that getting into Michigan myself was the proudest day of my life and getting married and the birth of my kids are the happiest, truly nothing beats having your kid get into your alma mater, particularly since she's been dreaming about about it since she was five. Today Michigan issued its first round of admissions. First off, congrats to the newest members of the Class of 2027 (damn that makes me feel old).
Now let me go wipe the tears off my keyboard because I haven't stopped since my daughter facetimed me about 30 minutes ago to tell me she's in.
GO BLUE

Congrats, proud papa!

Do kids these days look to see how large the email file size is to guess whether they were admitted before actually opening the email? #im_old

You had yours *emailed*?
I do remember checking my Pine (and Mulberry) email at the fishbowl tho

Congrats to you!
Blessed to have 2 kids get those "yes" emails a few years ago.
At our HS there was a group of seniors meeting together after school today to open their emails together. A good day for the ones who are newly minted wolverines. A harder day for the kids who have to wait longer.

for me it was december 17, 2011 a day i'll never forget
(technically the email came the night before, but i didn't have a smart phone back then so i didn't see it til the next day)

Congrats to your daughter!
My son is in and will likely follow his sister, who will graduate from M this spring.
Also, a reminder that this a rough day for some others — just because a college didn’t say “yes” we need to remind these young people that they can still be successful with any path they choose.

Best bit of advice I ever got went something like... there's little value in just arriving, it's what you do when you're there that really matters.

Congrats to all of the Victors 2027 as I eagerly await to hear from my students who applied and for whom I wrote letters of rec.

Congrats to your daughter and all the future-Wolverines getting their acceptance!

Awesome; congrats to your family!
Admissions have become so ultra competitive. 20 years ago, my wife *only applied to Michigan* because she said, "Why wouldn't I get in?" Nowadays, I hear stories all the time of kids with amazing grades, scores, etc. not getting into Michigan (or their first choices broadly). I definitely wouldn't pass admissions these days, so I'm glad I got my degree when it was a little easier :)

Admissions have become so ultra competitive.
you ain't joking. my son (in state kid) graduated with a 3.9 GPA, about 4 extra-curriculars, VP of his chapter of the National Honors Society, 32 on his ACTs, and didn't get into UM. Got put on a waiting list until well into summer, at which point he said screw it and went to CC for 2 years to save money, transferred to WMU for 2 years, graduated with Honors (Phi Sigma - served as secretary), and now is getting his PhD out west.

Damn. I wouldn't get in today I'm guessing

Congrats, OP!
Related story: Last year a family friend missed the cut and wound up going to MSU. She studied hard, reviewed what amounted to the transfer checklist, and recently learned that she was accepted for transfer to UM. Happiness all around .....

JBA, congratulations to your daughter - and you. Absolutely fantastic news.
You’re about to begin the journey that many of us here share - alums with children at Michigan.
Get ready to show them around - and, I hope your / her move-in weekend is not as hot (temperature wise) as ours was…
Go Blue!

What a great feeling. Congrats. As a 1992 grad I’ve been blessed with 3 of my kids attending Michigan and one applying this summer. 🤞🏽

Us too... in 2035!!
January 27th, 2023 at 4:40 PM ^
Take a well deserved bow, Dad. You "done good"!
The fun times begin now! Watching her walk around, absorbing the "this is my school now, too" reality. Occasionally meeting her for a nice dinner on State Street and just listening to her tell you what's going on. Absorbing every word and every smile. Perfect, be a sponge; it doesn't get any better than this cause no one's got it better than us, nope, nobody!

Congrats!!
Our son is 5 and already wants to be in the class of 2040. He even calls his piggy bank his "college fund."
Soak it up & GO BLUE!

I'm just happy my HS freshman daughter pulled a B- in chemistry first semester. She was really anxious about that grade and hates all science classes! Guess the last minute Sylvan tutoring paid off.

My kids would only be able to attend at out of state tuition as moved away a long time ago. I just looked at out of state tuition. My kids will not be attending Michigan.

We were very excited when our daughter got the good news a year ago (she was too) even though she decided to go to the dark side.

Congratulations! I only wish I could have been the father of a second-generation Wolverine.
Among the proudest days of my life were when my two daughters received their acceptances. Then they broke my heart when they each decided they preferred a small liberal arts college. (One had no football team. The other had a terrible football team that no one cared about. I have no idea what my daughters did on fall Saturdays.)
My disappointment was ameliorated a little when my niece attended Michigan. (School of Music in Dance 2006. Nearly her entire class moved to Chicago and started a professional dance troupe together.) Then my disappointment was ameliorated a lot when one daughter had a two-year post-doc fellowship in Michigan's Digital Studies Institute. So I shouldn't say that I'm not the father of a second-generation Wolverine.

My daughter just got in to yesterday I got home and the acceptance latter was taped to the door and The Victors was blasting throughout the house. Amazing feeling. 160 kids applied from her school!
January 29th, 2023 at 5:38 PM ^
My daughter will apply next year. 69 kids applied from her out of state school last year . . . only 6 got in. Yikes.

Congrats! My daughter also was accepted, following my son who graduates this Spring semester. He is a MMB trumpet (awesome experience for him) and we’re hoping our daughter literally follows his steps there (albeit in the piccolos).
Definitely a milestone day, congrats to all of the newest Wolverines!
