They could use him, but I’d prefer he go outside the B10.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:24 PM ^
Omigosh, imagine if Iowa had an offense.
Of course the question is, if McNamara goes to Iowa, would he raise them up or would Ferentz fils drag him down?
December 1st, 2022 at 7:41 PM ^
My gut reflex was to feel badly for Cade. Hopefully his grad program there is excellent.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:45 PM ^
He could learn how to punt. Imagine that surprise weapon on 3rd and short.

I think it’s pretty safe to say we won that trade
December 1st, 2022 at 8:16 PM ^
So far. Let's see how Cade does the next one or two years.
December 1st, 2022 at 8:26 PM ^
This might be for 3 years. I could see him getting a med-shirt for this year.
December 1st, 2022 at 8:34 PM ^
Cade is gonna need quite a bit of help at Iowa and it does not appear as though he’s going to get it any time soon.
The West is bad enough that I could see Iowa getting to Indy, which is more than we could say with Rudock, but that’s their ceiling. And as far as individual impact/stats, it’s really hard to see Cade beating 64% completions for 3,017 yards and 20 TDs at Iowa.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:14 PM ^
Look forward to beating him in the 2023 CCG
December 1st, 2022 at 7:50 PM ^
That would be the only way Michigan would face him because Iowa isn't on Michigan's schedule next season or 2024 which might change given the addition of UCLA and USC and change in postseason play.
December 1st, 2022 at 8:09 PM ^
yes, cause we do not play Iowa in the regular season, sweet. Seriously good luck Cade.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:15 PM ^
lol
what a waste
Cade McNamara in that dark ages offense.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:20 PM ^
Well at least he will have a great oline to protect him. Hope the surgery helps his mobility.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:22 PM ^
Not sure if you're being sarcastic but Iowa's offensive line is terrible. He's going to get murdered behind those dudes unless they fix all their issues by next year.
Hate to see it man I was hoping he'd go somewhere in the pac12
December 1st, 2022 at 7:29 PM ^
"Hope the surgery helps his mobility." Yeah, I'd say it was sarcasm.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:43 PM ^
Right on. What a bad choice if true.

December 1st, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
OSU would've been perfect, but I'll be rooting for him regardless.
December 1st, 2022 at 9:52 PM ^
Jeez, of course it was sarcasm. Their left tackle is a turnstile. I worry about him getting hurt as we saw early this year due to limited mobility. Doesn't equate to wishing him ill.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:23 PM ^
I’m not sure where you’ve been the past few years, but Iowa does NOT have a great OL… hopefully that was sarcasm
December 1st, 2022 at 7:36 PM ^
Yeah that offense is just useless but their QB play leaves a lot to be desired. I could see Cade at least making them respectable. That defense has been wasted on unimaginative nepotism within their coaching ranks. Best of luck where he goes but I would wait until some of the post-season games play out.
December 1st, 2022 at 8:05 PM ^
Cade is definitely an upgrade over what they have, so it’s a good pickup for Iowa. I just don’t think it’s a good move for Cade. He’s not really putting himself in the best situation to succeed.
Iowa’s OL isn’t going to protect him and he doesn’t have the mobility to compensate for that. Iowa doesn’t have a great running game to pull pressure off of Cade. And they don’t have weapons on the outside for Cade to utilize. Cade doesn’t have the arm talent to really create offense. At the end of the day he is a game manager and in the right situation, he can be an effective QB.
Cade could have done better than Iowa.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:15 PM ^
Unless he knows B Ferentz is on his way out, I cannot fathom wanting to go there.
Edit: Just got an ESPN update on my phone saying it's official.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:21 PM ^
Unless dude is going to live in daddy's basement Izzo style, B Ferentz will be OC next year. Plus, one of their top WRs from 2021 just put their name in the portal. I hope Cade waits for a better opportunity.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:29 PM ^
what's official? he's transferring to Iowa?
December 1st, 2022 at 7:30 PM ^
Yes, transferring per Pete Thamel. Maybe mods can update the title.

December 1st, 2022 at 7:47 PM ^
Naw man, it'll be Nebraska. ;-)
December 1st, 2022 at 7:17 PM ^
I was really hoping he'd go to a pass heavy offense. I think he'd be fun to watch throwing the ball 40 times/game in a Big12 type of system.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:33 PM ^
Yah, or you’d think there might be a Pac12 opportunity. Kids is from Reno. Maybe even SDST. But Iowa seems like a bad opportunity for him.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:59 PM ^
McNamara has an average arm and below average mobility. I doubt many teams with pass heavy offenses are looking for him.
December 1st, 2022 at 8:43 PM ^
Just depends on what kind of pass heavy offense. Put him in an Air Raid/Run and Shoot offense and he’d be fine. Especially considering those offenses rely heavily on pre-snap reads from the QB. They’re designed for short quick passes so throwing downfield and flashing arm strength wouldn’t be a big part of his duties anyway.
Pass heavy doesn’t inherently mean throwing the ball downfield a bunch.
December 1st, 2022 at 8:44 PM ^
He can hit the fade. He can hit the post. He can hit the slants. The only thing he really can't hit is the rifle to the far sideline. You don't need a cannon to play in a pass heavy offense.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:18 PM ^
Oh Cade no....

Do not love. Really want to see Cade succeed. In the SEC somewhere, by beating 'Bama and LSU and Georgia
December 1st, 2022 at 7:22 PM ^
I thought Kentucky would've been a good fit.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:43 PM ^
Go to a Pac 12 school next year after Caleb Williams, Bo Nix and Micheal Penix leave. Should be plenty of opportunities to slot right in and play. He certainly doesn't have the arm but he always reminded me of a poor man's Drew Brees who reads defenses well and takes what the defense gives you.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:22 PM ^
My God, the Ferentz's will break him.
