Vegas' continued overvaluing of Wisconsin is baffling.
October 17th, 2022 at 11:51 AM ^
Wisconsin has won 15 in a row against Purdue. Past isn’t always predictive of course - but the “I won’t believe Purdue can beat them until they actually do it” $$$ will be on Wisconsin.
October 17th, 2022 at 11:52 AM ^
I had the exact same reaction. That line is bizarre.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
SP+ and PiRatings both put the projected line at Wisconsin -0.8 points, so I guess it's not that far off. I didn't like Wisconsin's secondary vs MSU, so I think Purdue will definitely score. However, Purdue gave up a lot of explosive plays to Nebraska and might not be able to get their defense off the field.
October 17th, 2022 at 11:54 AM ^
So was their assigning 50-1 to Michigan to win the national title. OSU was at 3.5-1 and we can beat them. We should have opened at 15-1. And this is why I bet $300.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:11 PM ^
I'm not surprised that Wisconsin is still favored at home, albeit by a small margin. Don't forget that Purdue had to hold on to beat a terrible Nebraska team under the lights of Ross-Ade. The Boilers didn't exactly cover themselves in glory.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:15 PM ^
Wisconsin suuuuuuuuuuuuuucks
October 17th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
They do. But as stated above, Purdue has lost 15 times in a row to Wisconsin, including to a few mediocre Badger outfits.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:17 PM ^
Yeah, entire B1G west is a shitshow, which has given Bert the ability to build Wisky 2.0 at Illinois.
The Illinois game terrifies me in that they are physical, and even if we win, we have to deal with that 1 week before the Game. Ideally we get up big early with some chunk plays and put it away so we can rest the starters in the 4th.
But first, need to embarrass little brother. Expose them and their cliche machine coach as frauds.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
Yeah, worried that Illinois game is going to be like those Indiana games where we can't seem to pull away and there's a Michigan player writhing on the frozen turf every 15 minutes
October 17th, 2022 at 3:38 PM ^
Let's hold all talk on the Illinois Game until the final whistle of the Nebraska Game.
October 17th, 2022 at 4:38 PM ^
Remember when everybody was going on about how Michigan’s schedule was so easy because we had Illinois and missed out on playing Minnesota and Wisconsin?
October 17th, 2022 at 6:37 PM ^
We have depth they don't.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Also, total on Draft Kings is 52.5 - how is Wisconsin going to win a shootout?
October 17th, 2022 at 12:40 PM ^
27 points either way isn't exactly a shootout. And Purdue's defense isn't anything to write home about.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:41 PM ^
56 points vs MSU in regulation this past weekend...

56 points vs MSU in regulation this past weekend...
October 17th, 2022 at 3:41 PM ^
42 in regulation. Neither team able to sustain drives.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
This doesn't even have a "what does Vegas know" caveat. Very strange.
October 17th, 2022 at 1:51 PM ^
Well if the general public agrees with you, the line will move appropriately
October 17th, 2022 at 11:56 AM ^
I know that Purdue can be sporadic, but they’re underdogs to Wisconsin? Really?
Syracuse/Clemson might be intriguing…although you get the sense this is one of those games that Clemson usually wins 38-37.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:04 PM ^
Honestly, I think Clemson is going to blow Syracuse's doors off in Death Valley. The Orange have played one game away from the Carrier Dome and that was at UConn. Their notable victories are Purdue, a game they probably should have lost, and overrated NC State without their star QB.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:16 PM ^
Maybe, although in the last several years, I remember multiple instances where bad Syracuse teams played very competitive games against Clemson. They usually get up for this one.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
If it wasn't for Chase Brice (now starting QB at App St) converting a 4th and 6 a couple years ago against Syracuse, Clemson would have been eliminated from the playoffs. I think they may have won it all that year.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:27 PM ^
Yep, that was 2018, Trevor Lawrence's freshman year.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
Yeah I think Syracuse is pretty overrated. Like they've been fine with what's been in front of them but they haven't beaten anyone of note. I believe NC State's QB was out for this last game right? In Death Valley I'll take Clemson something like 49-20
October 17th, 2022 at 12:45 PM ^
I kinda think both are overrated -- and the ACC in general is junk -- but Clemson is more overrated in the average college football fan's mind, whereas everyone knows Syracuse isn't great but they are 6-0 in P5 so we are obligated to rank them.
I really wish Clemson could get exposed but the ACC doesn't have a team that can do it. They'll probably win this one 30-20 or so
October 17th, 2022 at 1:53 PM ^
I agree. Even the coach knows they've been fortunate up to this point, when his first comment after the NC State game is, we're bowl eligible.
October 17th, 2022 at 11:58 AM ^
I think Ohio State barely covers: 28 to -2.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:44 PM ^
I know this is a terrible prediction, but if I don't watch football this weekend then does it really matter?
Iowa 8, OSU 6.
October 17th, 2022 at 5:38 PM ^
For Iowa is that?
- FG+FG+Safety
- 4x Safety
- FG+FG+Blocked PAT return
October 17th, 2022 at 3:22 PM ^
Agreed. Iowa’s D won’t get paved. OSU will win easily but I don’t see them covering. Iowa will keep things in front of them and make OSU work for it, unlike most opponents. OSU put up just 21 on Notre Dame and haven’t played anything else resembling a defense. I think they sludge their way to an east victory
October 17th, 2022 at 4:00 PM ^
IDK. The line is 29. That means OSU will have to score just 30 points to cover. I think they can do that.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:04 PM ^
TCU are Oregon lines are a bit eyebrow-raising to me. TCU should have a bigger margin and I'm shocked Oregon is favored over UCLA
October 17th, 2022 at 12:12 PM ^
It will be a fun weekend to "just watch" other teams of interest. And, I have a wedding to go to this Saturday - so, unfortunately, the DVR will be on double duty.
Wisconsin over Purdue? I don't think so. Yes, the game is in Madison, it will be a tougher test for Purdue, but - I wonder about how much Wisconsin really has this season.
Minny at Penn State. White Out. Both teams need a win. How nicked up is Clifford? It will be fun to see what happens, and, I have no horse in this race.
Syracuse at Clemson. IF this game was at Syracuse, the result might be different. But, it isn't. I think the Orangemen cover the spread.
Northwestern at Maryland. Will Taulia play? I don't think it matters. Unfortunately, the Wildcats don't have the depth, and the Terps both win, and cover.
UCLA at Oregon, in Eugene. The crowd is going to make a difference. Game Day will be there. This is only the second road game this season for the Bruins (the first being at Colorado). Another great game to watch.
I would add two other game of interest.
Mississippi State at Alabama. The line is Bama by 21. I like Mississippi State to cover. And, wonder just "how much fun" Bama practices are going to be this week.
Texas at Oklahoma State. Texas favored by 6. I'd pick the Cowboys.
Enjoy...
October 17th, 2022 at 12:16 PM ^
Really like OSU as a home dog
October 17th, 2022 at 12:27 PM ^
Man was I confused until I figured out which OSU you were talking about.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
Texas at Oklahoma State. Texas favored by 6. I'd pick the Cowboys.
Yeah, Texas being a touchdown road favorite seems crazy to me. OK State should have won at TCU and Texas had to luck out to avoid losing at home to Iowa State.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
Franklin has an unbelievably awful ATS record after a straight up loss. Something like 5-20. He is 5-2 ATS in whiteout games, however, and Minnesota looks overvalued in the power rankings right now. So IDK
October 17th, 2022 at 1:45 PM ^
6-19-1 ATS to be exact (I had been broadcasting that stat for awhile now) ......... however, they are also 4-1 ATS in their last 5 in that same spot (all those 5 games from November 2020 onward).
I would always advise my gambling friends of that PSU stat when they were in such a spot --- I don't anymore. I feel that stat has become "too mainstream known" and the odds have adjusted for it.
October 17th, 2022 at 2:52 PM ^
Thoughts on Franklin/ direction of the program?
I'm guessing the locals are not too happy, but that extension seems to have handcuffed the program - did the admins really think that PSU can't recruit itself and a better gameday / developmental coach wasn't available?
MSU is a sad, desperate program that plays 1 game a year of signficance (their Super Bowl vs. UM), and everything else is gravy. So their desperate 10 year $95mm contract for a .500 career coach / cliche machine at middling schools kind of makes sense for sharty.
But PSU locking into Frames made no sense to me. PSU lucked into the B1G championship in 2016, despite being the 3rd best team in the division that year. Frames plays OSU close, but really has no other top tier wins to point to except Saquon doing Saquon things.
Harbaugh was getting shit after 3 years despite knocking in the door multiple times with UM - surprised PSU fans aren't coming after Frames with the pitchforks and torches right now.
October 17th, 2022 at 4:02 PM ^
Weird, but I think we need to root for PSU over Minny. To help our CFP chances we need teams on our schedule to beat teams not on our schedule with regularity.
October 17th, 2022 at 5:39 PM ^
Taulia is out for the season I think?
October 17th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Syracuse is going to beat Clemson straight up, Iowa will cover against OSU.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:19 PM ^
I’m mildly curios to see OSU’s offense, who likes to throw up bombs about 60 times per game against Iowa’s defense…..but Iowa’s offense couldn’t cross the street, so we’re still left with that.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
I think the difference is going to be in road Iowa (Jekyll) vs Kinnick Iowa (Hyde). I think OSU's offense will look very good. Partly because they are, and partly because Iowa doesn't travel well historically.
October 17th, 2022 at 5:47 PM ^
Except October 26, 2002. Last Iowa game I attended in person. Not a good day. Sorry, the bitterness has not gone away.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:43 PM ^
I don’t think Iowa will score all that much, but I also don’t think Iowa’s defense will yield anywhere close to OSUs passing average or receiving tds. The final score and whether OSU beats the spread will come down to day being willing enough to win more with the running game than trying to keep strouds Heisman campaign going strong.
October 17th, 2022 at 1:51 PM ^
I am really out on a limb here, but I am going to double down. Iowa's offense is bad. They don't even look like a good team apart from below Umich special teams. But OSU somehow always plays poorly about this time of the year. Under Day they haven't been losing this game, under Meyer they did many seasons. While i cringe to even think about how Iowa can win this, OSU has pretty bad special teams and Iowa can play defense. Not against this pass attack, but Iowa could scare them. I still think OSU is the best team in the nation and they have a very good defense to match a #1 offense. But they haven't played a good defense since ND, and that defense held them to 21. Iowa is...<,>,=ND? Probably better than. So that plus a few turnovers and Iowa could pull this off. OSU has had an easy schedule, much like all of us. At some point they have to play in a real game. Iowa wins (worst take ever). But why not?
