Video of Draymond Green throwing sucker punch

Sparty continues their streak of classy athletes
October 7th, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
What also struck me is that the report from the Warriors hinted that Green apologized to the team but NOT to Poole.
"“Draymond apologized to the team this morning, Jordan was there in the room, I was there in the room with the team, the coaches, the players and we heard that,” Kerr said on Thursday, according to the Associated Press."
October 7th, 2022 at 3:36 PM ^
i thought his off season lowlight was him chirping at an overmatched Akron football team in the end-zone in what looks like pre-game. A team that needed OT to beat St Francis the week before traveling to EL. no depths to the douchebaggery.
October 7th, 2022 at 6:44 PM ^
Yikes, also a bad look.
October 8th, 2022 at 5:36 AM ^
Wow, that’s Dantonio-level petty right there.
October 7th, 2022 at 5:19 PM ^
I wonder if any reporter has asked tiny tom what his thoughts are for his star player ("Day, Day") doing this to a fellow teammate, and what would tiny tom do if this happened in a staee practice???
October 7th, 2022 at 10:08 AM ^
I'm sure this will be part of every sparty hype video playing at their stadiums. What a piece of shit.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:09 AM ^
Soft by Saginaw standards.
October 7th, 2022 at 11:30 AM ^
One of the (countless) gripes I have about Draymond. He is not 'Saginaw Tough' like he claims to be. He was not about that life.
October 7th, 2022 at 4:48 PM ^
You want Saginaw tough? I give you Lamarr Woodley.
October 7th, 2022 at 5:02 PM ^
The dreaded double post. Since I am taking up space I might as well also mention Sam Sword, a vital member of our 1997 National Championship team.
October 7th, 2022 at 1:24 PM ^
I said that to myself this morning while they were talking about it on the radio. For someone from Saginaw, he really is a pussy, and ignorant to boot.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:09 AM ^
Holy shit. First off, I'm glad Poole is okay and was able to finish his workout and leave but that was way more egregious than I had thought or imagined.
I'd ask, "What was he thinking?" but it's pretty on par behavior for Draymond unfortunately.
October 7th, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
First word I thought was "lawsuit." That was pretty bad. I understand team chemistry and all, but that was waaaaay out of line.
October 7th, 2022 at 12:38 PM ^
I would not think lawsuit and I would think poorly of someone running to the courts in response to this. This was a punk move from DG (especially to a teammate) but it's still in the context of a team sport during practice (yes, we are talkin about practice). Scrums and altercations happen and there does not appear to be any severe injury.
October 7th, 2022 at 1:29 PM ^
lolwut? I don't think any of them signed up to get slugged in the fucking face. This is basketball, not MMA.
October 7th, 2022 at 2:20 PM ^
There has been quite a bit written this year about Draymond's decline as a player and Golden State still owes him a lot of money. It definitely sounds like there's no way they give DG a max extension. I also am not sure if they see DG as worth paying for the rest of his current contract, given they owe him 25.8MM this year and 27.5MM next year. Seems like a lot to be paying a guy averaging 7.5 points, 7 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game.
I wonder if there are any clauses in his contract that would allow Golden State to release him and not have to pay him based on what he did.
October 7th, 2022 at 3:31 PM ^
Not sure if true, but I read somewhere else that Jordan called him "Triple Single", which LOL if true
October 7th, 2022 at 4:49 PM ^
Hopefully the facts in your post, his lack of a contract, and the sucker punch mean he will be cut loose one way or the other. The punch could be both the clincher and the escape clause.
Maybe they evaluate the situation and decide to refer the assault to police to get out of the contract assuming there is the right clause. That would be poetic
October 7th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
This case should be referred to law enforcement and prosecuted as an assault. Green has serious anger problems, and especially for a man that fit and that large, could easily result in a one punch homicide. I've seen it, one punch, recipient hits their head on the ground and lights out for good.
This comes from a criminal defense lawyer with 30+ years of experience.
Green needs serious counseling for his benefit, and the benefit of those around him.

This should be prosecuted as an assault. That is a violent unprovoked (Green clearly started it and Poole pushed him away). Unfortunately there is no way Poole refers it to the police unless the team encourages it.
October 7th, 2022 at 6:06 PM ^
Won’t happen and really shouldn’t. Poole would be a basketball pariah if he pressed charges. Plus, It’s an in-team thing. I think we’d be shocked to learn how often this sort of thing happens behind closed doors, and we already hear about stuff like this occasionally.
I mean it’s literally part of the game in hockey. The NTDP used to give boxing lessons with a professional instructor.
GSW will deal with it. And that’s where it will stay.
October 8th, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
“Pressing charges” is a common misconception. All it takes is for any police officer or prosecutor to file charges and then serve Poole a subpoena. Poole can tell the officer or prosecutor that he doesn’t wish to pursue, but it’s not his call. Final call rests w/the prosecutor, not Poole.
Happens all the time in DV situations. If the complainant doesn’t show (as frequently occurs), the prosecutor then moves to enforce the subpoena. It’s a public safety discretionary call by a prosecutor, balancing risk, harm and allocation of resources.
October 7th, 2022 at 5:29 PM ^
Tell that to Rudy Tomjanovich (sp?) back in the day!
October 7th, 2022 at 4:19 PM ^
Why has Green not been arrested? That's video evidence of assault
October 7th, 2022 at 4:42 PM ^
They need support from Poole to pursue it
October 7th, 2022 at 10:09 PM ^
No they don’t. Literally none of my gangster cases back in the day ever had “support” from a victim (usually dead) or his or her gang. We used to have arrest them and bring them in front of the jury in shackles.

Punk ass bitch.

DG seems like a great teammate

Draymond gonna Draymond. What a douche.

Pure human scum
October 8th, 2022 at 11:16 AM ^
“Flaming pile of human garbage” seems apropos in this case.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:12 AM ^
Why he’s still on the team is beyond me. Regardless of his on court contributions
October 7th, 2022 at 10:13 AM ^
I wouldn't call that a sucker punch, But he's an asshole regardless.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:18 AM ^
Poole is standing with his arms at his hips. Clearly not in a fighting position. A shove to get a teammate away from you doesn't lead to a punch in practice.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:31 AM ^
It does lead to a discussion about what constitutes a "sucker punch"? Is it strictly a blindside punch that you have zero idea is coming? Or is it punching someone that is not aware you are about to escalate a situation into a fist fight?
Clearly Poole does not think they are about to fight, but pushes Greene away from him after the chest pump. Under the circumstances of this being a teammate I doubt Poole thought Greene was going to cold cock him.
Now it this was a situation where these were two stangers in a parking lot somewhere, I would think Poole would need to be more on his toes and would lean more to this is a "cold cock."
Under the totality of the circumstances (place, relationship, situation, etc.) I lean more sucker punch on this one.
Either way trash move by Greene.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:40 AM ^
Who was the Michigan recruit/[commit?] who sucker punched someone a few years ago? There was some suckerpunch fad going on.
A sucker punch is to "hit (someone) with an unexpected punch or blow."
One would not expect to be punched by a teammate in a practice, so I think it qualifies.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:45 AM ^
I understand a sucker-punch to be a shot at someone not looking at you. A cold cock is hitting someone not in a defensive position but is looking at you and knocking them out. I'm from the Bronx. I know these things...
October 7th, 2022 at 2:11 PM ^
Nope, cold cock is knocking someone out cold. Hence "cold" cock.
Sucker punch is taking a shot at someone by surprise. He clearly sucker-punched JP.
October 7th, 2022 at 5:48 PM ^
A cold cock is hitting someone not in a defensive position but is looking at you and knocking them out.
So..yeah, I did say that. We'll have to agree to disagree on what a sucker punch is. I define it as hitting someone looking away from you--someone with their back to you, who's walking away or has been distracted in some way. A cheap shot is hitting someone looking at you but not expecting to be hit and is not in a defensive position, like Poole.

Csont'e York. Kicked off the team and (I think) did something like a couple of weeks in jail for it.
October 7th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
A sucker punch is a punch thrown at someone who is in no way prepared to fight or defend himself.
October 7th, 2022 at 2:37 PM ^
Csonte York?
Nevermind. Already answered.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:41 AM ^
A fight has to start in some manner. Mills Lane is not going to be everywhere to declare "Let's get it on" nor is there a requirement for a specific amount of wrestling before a punch is thrown. I think it is seldom that a person ends up in a physical fight without first having that "fighting feeling." Depending on whether that person leans more toward fight or flight that person is either going to be the one punching or the one getting punched. Poole always seemed passive-aggressive so I am not surprised he isn't the one who escalated.
In any case, fighting is soooo early-90s. Everybody could do themselves a favor and just not fight and it would be better.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:49 AM ^
As someone who has prosecuted and defended numerous assaults over the last 20 years, one thing I can say without hesitation is nobody wins an adult fight!
October 7th, 2022 at 11:03 AM ^
similar resume. would politely disagree. not a good idea, but sometimes things happen, and if poole had 'won' that encounter that would be one of those times when you gotta do what you gotta do.
October 7th, 2022 at 1:00 PM ^
No doubt, sometimes shit happens. I have been closer than I care to admit as an adult, even being aware of the aftermath that can come with it.
October 7th, 2022 at 1:08 PM ^
Well, your name is Angry Dad. I can believe it.
