I lived next door to Amadou Ba one summer in Couzens. Super nice guy. I was a little surprised when he knocked that guy down in Breslin, actually, since he was such a nice guy.
To keep with the theme: Laval Lucas-Perry!

Dugan Fife. I always thought it was a cool name.
Did I do this right? I'm not sure what we're supposed to be doing here.

Antoine Joubert. My wife called him Ju-Ju Bear

The Judge!!

Named my dog after him.

I'll give a shout out to Darius Morris. I think people sometimes forget what a key player he was in turning Michigan basketball around.

Anything you can do Amadou better

Yup, he was here for some lean years. Those teams tried hard, but just didn't have it. Between Horton, Abram, Harris, a lot of players that would have been great 2nd or 3rd choices, but never had a "Guy" to be the go-to player, though Horton tried.

Hooped with him once at the old rec center, 84 or 85? I thought I had the tiniest bit of game, but he just swept up and down the court in the most lordly fashion--I was quite in awe. He was tall for a guard, would be tall even now; you wonder how he would have fared in today's NBA.

I played in the CCRB against Daniel Horton and Graham Brown. Everyone was laughing at Daniel when I scored on him a couple times and couldn't score on me (he clearly wasn't trying too hard, and I was trying my hardest). Then they got a little serious and Graham Brown set a blind screen that audibly cracked every vertebrate in my back. Dude was a wall. Brown also dunked a put back over me.

I remember he threw down a dunk at Crisler and the TV announcer parroted the former (former former, I guess now, at least) UPS ad slogan “What can Brown do for you!?!”
Formative broadcast television moment for ur boy here ?

Brandun Hughes. The last juco player I recall coming to Michigan's bball team. He hit the winning shot against Notre Dame in the 1997 NIT tournament to advance to New York.

Loy Vaught Sr drove the number 6 bus for GRATA. I took that bus home from school.

I was on an exchange year at Wyoming when Robbie and brother Reid came thru Laramie. Needless to say the Cowboys hate them some Reids!!

Naz Hillmon because while she’s not a dude, she’s a Dude (playmaking definition) and despite being an active player having just put a beat-down on Ohio State it seems most everyone has completely forgotten about her.

Garde Thompson.
Would argue “random” UM basketball players do not include all time greats like Loy Vaught, Roy Tarpley and Gary Grant.

Wayman Britt was apparently drafted not only in NBA draft, but in the NFL draft by the now WFC / Commanders. Not many people have that to tell their grandkids.

the guy that got me into watching Michigan bball Laval Blanchard #30

Dommanic Ingerson, Kevin Gaines, Peter Vignier, Travis Conlan.
February 11th, 2022 at 6:58 PM ^
came here to make sure someone mentioned Ingerson, thanks for coming through!
February 12th, 2022 at 2:07 AM ^
ditto for Conlan. I have a picture of him dunking at United Center in Chicago when UM won the 1st ever Big Ten Tournament in... 97? 98?
February 11th, 2022 at 5:05 PM ^
I still can't forget Makhtar Ndiaye fouling out in nearly every game, and being utterly shocked that he was ever called for a foul. That, and his ill-advised three-point-attempts.
February 11th, 2022 at 5:07 PM ^
Antoine Joubert - The Judge! Silky smooth stroke, with a name that rolled off the tongue and reverberated through Crisler in the mid 1980s.
February 11th, 2022 at 5:14 PM ^
I remember writing him a letter telling them what a big fan I was, and he wrote me back. Sent me a picture also that he inscribed. Thing was, I was 30 years old, not 10.
February 11th, 2022 at 8:42 PM ^
Did you include a picture of yourself?

Makhtar N'Diaye, ended up at UNC after a few seasons.

Ricky Doyle being mentioned numerous times in recent days is one that got me. Dude was our starting center for a minute. Hoo boy.
McClimans is a good one. So is Gavin Groninger!

Demetrius Calip
Kirk Taylor
February 11th, 2022 at 5:38 PM ^
In the 89 run in the first or second round - UAB maybe, so first round? - Calip drove the lane, went horizontal and violently dunked on a 7-footer. He was called for a charge, but that was the first sign that the boys were engaged and interested for the first time in a month or so. Of course, they went on to shock the world, iirc.

Freddie Hunter. Found playing hoops at the Intramural Building and became a fan favorite. One of the hardest working players on the court I ever saw.
February 11th, 2022 at 6:21 PM ^
I always called him "Freddie Hunter TWO" because no one ever talked about him without saying "the walk on" until they started saying "the former walk on".
February 12th, 2022 at 2:09 AM ^
Loved Freddie Hunter!
He also tutored at my high school - while having his breakout season - and was a super nice guy
February 11th, 2022 at 5:29 PM ^
C.J. Lee and David Merritt. Neither played a ton of minutes or scored much, but two guys early on in the Beilein era that helped turn the program around with their leadership and grit.

Dion Harris and Courtney Sims are my first memory of watching Michigan basketball. I remember a close game vs UCLA in 2005, which was the beginning of my basketball fandom. Growing up in central Ohio there were not many Michigan basketball games I remember on TV.

Honestly the whole 2009 team that made the tourney and beat Clemson. One of the first years I followed bball (I was at Crisler with the team for the selection watch!) and was a fun team with no expectations.
However, I would say that the two dudes that stick out to me (besides Novak) are Manny Harris and DeShawn Sims.
