Dawgs 247 Msg Board Film Analysis on UM
Interesting analysis on us from Georgia 247 board.

The casual "our passing game is just as good as Ohio State" belief is...something.

He doesn’t seem to take the Michigan run game very seriously either . . .

I'm so tired of these clown SEC people, whomever the fuck they are.
I'm just glad it's game day and we can finally shut them the fuck up.
They will thank us after the game that they won't have to get their asses kicked by Bama again, we'll take care of Bama for them.l
December 31st, 2021 at 3:52 AM ^
My favorite part was his ultra-casual dismissal of Aidan. "He won't disrupt everything." "Our tackles will hold their own no matter what side Hutchinson lines up on."
Does he realize he's talking about the guy who would probably have won the Heisman if his apparently-invincible Bulldogs had taken care of business against Bama?
December 31st, 2021 at 6:28 AM ^
Nothing but a homer analysis. Nobody knows what's going to happen tonight when steel meets steel. The idea that Georgia's relatively middling offense will "abuse" UM's ILB's is kool-aide. UGA doesn't out-scheme anyone.
December 31st, 2021 at 2:09 AM ^
I like this one.
Ultimately, UGA has way better skill talent than Michigan does and I think this is the point where we finally start to see Todd Monken let it all hang out.
So with Hutchinson, Ojabo, and Dax on defense, and the best running back combo in football on O, he still still sees UGA having way better skill talent. OK man whatever floats your boat.
December 31st, 2021 at 3:12 AM ^
Last time I heard the "the OC will finally open it up this game" was... the previous game. All the Iowa bloggers were convinced that Brian Ferentz would discover his inner Bill Walsh. 3 points scored later...

That's what they said about ohio.

I haven't followed Georgia too closely this season but you've got to love reading this description of their OC heading into the 14th game of the season:
"this is the point where we finally start to see Todd Monken let it all hang out"

They’re a great team, they’re in the playoff for a reason and all but god damn they’re getting high on their own supply. We’re well within the blue chip ratio. We’ve got really good athletes at WR, big bodied and athletic tight ends, 2 of the best running backs in America. We’ve got a great scheme that they haven’t seen all year either. We’re not fucking Kentucky lol.
Defensively, that offense is overrated and schematically nothing that presents a problem that can’t be fixed with better scheme. Monken is an NFL washout, not going to be a guy that lights the world on fire with aggressive play calling.
We’ve got enough horses, enough experience, and more than enough good coaching to win this matchup. Georgia, the SEC, and the national media look exclusively at recruiting rankings because it’s the easiest way to evaluate teams, not grinding film. We’ve watched this team all year, read the breakdowns, and even broken down film ourselves I’m sure! We can go do this and punch a ticket BACK TO INDY. PUMP IT UP.

I remember years ago for Lloyd Carr's last game that Florida was favored to win. One of the commentators stated that with a month of preparation, the entire team look can change -- which it did for that game...Michigan went more spread which they hadn't done all season. Michigan indeed won and Carr was carried off the field.
So, this is like 3 bye weeks, who knows what will happen.
It's hard to measure the drive of the team, jukability, QB decision-making, coach play calling, in-game adjustments, % of fundamentally sound football played versus egregious mistakes, etc, none of which was addressed in the article. And it doesn't cover special teams and turnovers either.
Will be quite a battle, but a reason why you play the game. I believe Harbaugh will have the team charged up.
Go Blue!
December 31st, 2021 at 8:39 AM ^
That was one of Lloyds best coaching jobs in his career. To watch our O run a spread against Urban and hand that little weasel a loss was a thing of beauty. On top of Mike Hart fumbling twice, for the first time ever, and still whipping that ass!
December 31st, 2021 at 9:03 AM ^
It was.....and it was also one of the more frustrating coaching jobs too. He had those guys for years and waited until their last game to open it up on his way out the door.

Yep…I remember feeling that way after as well. What a F’d up year the 07 season was.
December 31st, 2021 at 2:34 AM ^
In summary, we've never seen players of this caliber before. Alabama may have snuck in a wrinkle or two to just barely sneak by this collection of future hall-of-famers, but luckily a month of practice will have all those weaknesses buttoned-up, and Michigan will be lucky to even be in a reasonable running situation in the 2nd half bc the game will already be out of reach. Oh, and either tackle can handle Hutchinson -- he's never seen tackles like these before. Hopefully there aren't many Georgia offense tackles in the NFL, or Hutchinson might be undraftable. God save us.

Let's not forget about SEC Speed. Those 4.4's are faster than our 4.4's.
December 31st, 2021 at 2:35 AM ^
It’s interesting but the writer is a pure homer. I mean, in 2021, when 5 of 6 SEC teams have lost their bowl games, he’s still a true believer in the myth of SEC supremacy to such an extent that he thinks the best B1G team is athletically inferior to pretty much the entire SEC (“UM doesn’t have the 2nd level speed that UGA is used to seeing most weeks in the SEC”). UGA may prove to be a better team than us, but our defense had plenty of speed to keep up with OSU, which is faster than UGA.
December 31st, 2021 at 2:56 AM ^
Early prediction ITT: Michigan fans saying UGA fans are overconfident while being overconfident.
I'm excited for the game but how these matchups play out is going to take a good bit of actual game time for me to get a feel for. My best hope is they've spent a ton of time trying to figure out what Bama did to them in hopes/hubris of a rematch. I know nothing.
December 31st, 2021 at 3:21 AM ^
He doesn’t take anything their opponents do seriously his write up about Alabama was laughable and his prediction of 38-20 really worked. This dude way overrates UGAs speed and way underrates ours.
December 31st, 2021 at 3:57 AM ^
I just don't understand where all that speed and skill was when Alabama was scoring 41 points and throwing for 421 yards. Was the speed and skill just having an off day, or does Alabama have super-duper-mega speed and skill, and Georgia just has regular SEC caliber mega speed and skill?
December 31st, 2021 at 4:33 AM ^
You didn’t pay attention. It was the quarters coverage they don’t usually play, and next time will be different…
December 31st, 2021 at 4:43 AM ^
But their linebackers can cover receivers, let alone measly running backs and tight ends. How did Alabama solve that puzzle?

December 31st, 2021 at 6:25 AM ^
I think Michigan’s speed at WR is being underrated. Cornelius Johnson ran right by OSU’s best CB and has gotten deep on numerous occasions in addition to showing some shiftiness and speed with the ball in his hands.
We know Wilson is a burner and his route-running has come a long way. Andrel Anthony had the injury but on the free play last game he also smoked OSU’s DB in one on one and had an easy 6 if Cade puts more air under it (wasn’t a bad miss, not hating on Cade). Henning is a threat to take a reverse for 6 on any play. I haven’t even mentioned Donovan Edwards yet.
Add in two NFL-caliber tight ends…UGA might have the athletes to blow up some plays and put Michigan behind the chains but to act like Michigan’s skill players are just a bunch of guys is incorrect. Michigan spreads the ball around and obviously runs a lot but they have real speed and explosiveness.
Penn State had probably the most defensive success (outside of that weird second half against Rutgers) of any team Michigan faced thanks to excellent LB play and perhaps the best defensive end in the Big Ten not named Hutchinson. Georgia can certainly replicate that and obviously are way better in the interior of the line, but again, Michigan’s WR’s won plenty against PSU’s corners (who are quite good and probably the best we played against all year after Washington).
So if Michigan gets manhandled on offense it’s probably because the run was completely shut down and Cade couldn’t hit open throws enough to offset what is likely to be a pass rush that will get to him quite often.
The other thing I took issue with in this post (which in fairness isn’t quite as dismissive as you’d think from a homer, a lot of it was fair) is the idea that Ojabo is a pass rushing specialist and weak against the run. This was true earlier in the season, but he’s come a long way and did an excellent job setting the edge against OSU, often playing two gaps. That was instrumental in making OSU one dimensional. Moreover, the author made a snide remark about how many of Hutchinson’s pressures came against Nebraska and OSU without considering that Michigan rotated him off the field a ton against lesser competition (really everyone besides Wisconsin, Penn State, MSU, OSU).
I think there’s plenty to be worried about. I do think he’s right to identify the LB’s as the right spot to attack with Bowers. I think the idea that Dax is a liability against a guy like McConkey is laughable. If Michigan loses it’s likely to be because the battle up front was a massive loss with few wins and Cade couldn’t win the game with his arm. But I think the author of that post is overstating things.

I've engaged far too many of these pieces over that last week-to the end...thinking that at some point there would be, at least, a hint of objectivity and reason-none so far. Otherwise, all these fanboy pieces are recklessly mindless.

Wow, I hope Michigan can summon up the courage to leave the locker room.

When a guy like this says, "I think our tackle can handle Hutchinson 1 on 1," he is not to be taken seriously.
December 31st, 2021 at 8:11 AM ^
I can't even believe we're in the playoff according to this guy's analysis. You would think Michigan State and Ohio State just killed us lol
December 31st, 2021 at 8:12 AM ^
Lol the disrespekt.
My favorite takes:
Our LBs could cover their WRs, RBs & TEs easily
Cook = Kenneth walker
There's not a single player on our team as fast as the average SEC player
Our TE could move to tackle, be the most athletic tackle in the nation & handle Hutchinson

-1 for making us go to a UGA board without so much as even a small summary with a highlight. "Interesting analysis..."
Good God people can be lazy...
Yes, I read it. One point he made seems pretty accurate - UM might be getting a little built up and UGA knocked down based on recency bias. But he missed far more than he hit on correctly. If the UGA coaches and players are dismissing Michigan as much as their fans are, this won't be too difficult a win. But I don't think they are. I think it'll be a close first half with some 3 & outs for both teams - enough that the game thread will be UGLY. But the second half should trend more towards Michigan - good adjustments, relentless attitude, and offensive diversity will wear down Georgia. They will start to panic a little down the stretch.
This guy says Michigan doesn't have second level speed or talent like Georgia has, and that Hutch can't handle their OL. He also said they were going to get the corner on wide running plays whether Dax is in, or not. Good luck with those things...

"Bowl games are weird, and anything can happen but there’s a reason Vegas has had Georgia as a 7.5 point favorite when the narratives around the two teams have been totally opposite lately."
The narratives I've seen nationally tend to be more like this guy's and less towards Michigan having a chance. Maybe that's just the nature of both sides and focusing on "disrespect" whenever someone doesn't say nice things about your team. Also, my man said there's a reason Vegas has them as a 7.5 point favorite, then added on another 13.5 to the UGA win for good measure. I'm not sure what happens in the game, and very little would surprise me, but the easy dismissal is hilarious.
December 31st, 2021 at 12:17 PM ^
I like how he says there's a reason it's a 7.5 spread in Vegas ... then picks them to win by three touchdowns.

I got tired of casual wannabe fan analysis a long time ago. I get homer analysis and the national guys don’t watch enough of any one team to have a great breakdown. I prefer football guys, former players or coaches that know the game and understand how to breakdown film.
The stupid, we’re sec or what ever is tiresome, lazy and uninformed of the opponent.

Might be a boring take, but.... I see more Mich people blast other Mich people for grammar corrections. As if they are a idiot because they spelled a word wrong or are *not a good fan* because they think the team has a weakness or opinion that they don't agree with.
Georgia fans can think all they want to think and I hope they do. They would not be fans if they didn't dream and have somewhat unrealistic goals and views just like some of us have for our team and university.
All being said... Great day to be a fan of the Maize and Blue! What a great opportunity we have to put the University up front on the stage with all watching to show that we truly are the *Leaders and best;* far beyond its reach for sports.

“LT Ryan Hayes kicked OSU ends across the formation over and over. This won’t happen against Georgia”
ok... why?
pretty bad write up overall
December 31st, 2021 at 3:12 PM ^
Yeah. Presumably it goes without saying that UGA has more talent on the D-Line than OSU (and anyone else in the country) but that largely applies to OSU LB's. That D-Line is still elite and littered with 5-stars and future NFL players and before the OSU game everyone was saying they were capable of taking over the game.
