4 Sam Webb picks.
Things are happening fast and furious now. Seems like most of the news tonight has been bad news. Sam has just made 4 picks.
Deone Walker to UK (Not surprised one bit.
Burke to Texas
Sabb to UM (Medium confidence. Others are reporting it’s a coin flip between us and Georgia)
QB Alex Orji to UM
Assuming Orji is a take with us losing out on others . No pick yet on Clemons but On3 is saying confidence on Clemons is down to 40 pct.
December 14th, 2021 at 11:33 PM ^
Bring on the Orji
December 14th, 2021 at 11:36 PM ^
This could be better.
December 15th, 2021 at 5:15 AM ^
This could be worse.
December 15th, 2021 at 9:05 AM ^
This could be worse.
Things could always be better. Things could always be worse. Neither is a great litmus test of how things are because both are accurate 100% of the time.
December 15th, 2021 at 9:55 AM ^
but what if things ARE THE SAME
December 15th, 2021 at 11:25 AM ^
Wow, I never thought of it that way.
Thanks.
December 14th, 2021 at 11:40 PM ^
Wow. Shaping up to be a bit disappointing for a signing day that should’ve been a slam dunk
December 15th, 2021 at 12:34 AM ^
Why should this signing day have been a slam dunk? The COVID season was terrible and Michigan entered the season with the talk being that Harbaugh would likely be gone at the end of the year after having his pay cut. Up until the OSU game, the sports world was still laughing about Michigan's chances of beating the Buckeyes. You need momentum for recruiting. Michigan will hopefully see a bump in recruiting in 2022 and 2023 after this season.
December 15th, 2021 at 7:41 AM ^
Well we were 10-1 before that game. I see a lot of "recruiting is a lagging indicator" this year, and in all the years I've been here this is a recent argument to me that I didn't previously see in recruiting articles. Is there a study or data showing this?
December 15th, 2021 at 8:47 AM ^
Devil’s advocate on just two players one would think would choose UM based on your point about program statuses and momentum:
What does Kentucky offer Walker and Kiyaunta that Michigan doesn’t? Kentucky wasn’t good, ever, at football. They pull in high level guys we target.
Recruiting never surprises me because, well, young men offer a plethora of mindsets and desires. You cannot gauge homesickness, path to starting, fear of academics, fear of competing, desire to be a star, desire to compete for team rewards over individual accolades, interest in the campus, interest in campus student body, their relationships with coaches, their family, their HS coaches, etc.
December 15th, 2021 at 1:06 AM ^
I don't follow recruiting too closely but as things look now it only seems edge would be disappointing. We lost/processed a guy, and now probably losing Burke and Henry. That sucks.
EDIT: Oops forgot Moore is an edge since I'm basically just hearing of him for the first time.
December 14th, 2021 at 11:42 PM ^
Michigan makes a ton of money when Michigan wins. Pay the damn players. If not, cut this bullshit about being rivals with OSU. I don't want to hear it.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:07 AM ^
What the fuck are you talking about.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:12 AM ^
People get *so* butthurt about recruits going to different schools.
Remember the Xavier Worthy meltdown? Do I wish Worthy was on the team? Sure, it would be a nice luxury. Do we have the #4 FEI offense without him? You better fucking believe it.
STARZZZ are nice. They are not everything. Calm the fuck down.
December 15th, 2021 at 11:10 AM ^
The term "butthurt" needs to be retired, or at least relegated to middle-school hallway talk. I guess I'd also make an exception for use on the Red Cedar message board.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:07 PM ^
you're not wrong, skidmark. duly noted for the future.
December 15th, 2021 at 1:05 AM ^
Yeah Burke is going to Texas. That school with no fanbase and no money and is not his home state.
December 15th, 2021 at 7:25 AM ^
Don't follow recruiting if you're going to be so upset when Michigan inevitably loses out on some players. It even happens to schools that cheat a lot.
If we're going to cheat, why not go all the way and buy the refs?
December 15th, 2021 at 8:50 AM ^
Maybe we should, Miggle. That school down south does.
/s. But barely.
December 15th, 2021 at 7:41 AM ^
Woah man this is recruiting, this shit happens.
December 15th, 2021 at 9:54 AM ^
I know you’re getting ripped, but I appreciate you having the courage to speak the truth. Going forward we can beat OSU when we hit on our 3-star guys but long term it is not a great strategy to depend on so many 3 star guys hitting while OSU is bring in 5 star guys especially with our transfer restrictions.
December 14th, 2021 at 11:58 PM ^
Need to get a real good recruiting coordinator to replace Morgan.
December 15th, 2021 at 8:23 AM ^
How did we lose Morgan on the first place? He left for a lateral position.
December 15th, 2021 at 8:46 AM ^
A lateral position with a big pay raise, the Assistant HC title, and working with a good friend and long time co-worker in a part of the country he loves.
Why are you so butthurt about a guy getting all that for a job he loves to do?
December 15th, 2021 at 8:52 AM ^
How often do you visit MGoBlog?
This has been discussed ad nauseam and there's been plenty of reasonable speculation based on his association with the new coach (from Fresno State, where Morgan once worked) and the possibility that he'd be in line for an on-field position.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:00 AM ^
We just had no relationships due to coaching turnover.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:02 AM ^
If Deone Walker picks Kentucky over us? Bye. And good luck.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:10 AM ^
I really don't get why defensive ends aren't banging down the door to come to Michigan. Just off the top of my head since Harbaugh has been coach, we've had:
1. Chris Wormley - having a fantastic year with the Steelers
2. Taco Charlton - also with the Steelers, and last week given a lot of PT to help shut down the Vikings running game in the second half
3. Rashan Gary - key player for the Packers
4. Chase Winovich - not sure how he's doing this year, but was ranked one of the best in the NFL at generating pressures last year
5. Josh Uche - 3 sacks for a very good Pats defense this year
6. Kwity Paye - Having a decent rookie season for the Colts
7. David Ojabo - Likely first round pick despite coming into the season as an unknown.
8. Aidan Hutchinson - Possible first overall pick and runner up in the Heisman
That's 8 NFL players from 7 years at a position where only two players see the field regularly, 5 of them first rounders. Only one of which was a five star, and two of which were middle of the pack 3 stars. There's no way any other school has nearly as good a track record as that. 5 stars should be begging Harbaugh to come here, instead we've got 3 stars decommitting. Frustrating.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:39 AM ^
Most on this list were 3 stars not that highly ranked 4 and 5 stars. But you would think the teams success and Hutch and Ojabo performing so well, there would be so many who would want to play here we would be turning some away. Oh well, a #15 rank class is not too bad for finishing 2- 4 last season. I think 2022 and 2023 will be much improved. Also, look at how our slightly down class in 2018 has done!
December 15th, 2021 at 1:32 AM ^
That’s simply not true on our edge players:
Wormley: 4*, 127th ranked player
Charlton: 4*, 131st
Winovich: 4*, 299th
Gary: 5*, 1st
Uche: 3*, 707th
Paye: 3*, 487th
Hutchinson: 4*, 112th
Ojabo: 4*, 314th
As you can see, only two 3*s whereas the others were highly ranked players. And our lowest 4*, Ojabo, was always considered a high ceiling talent who was ranked lower due to being very raw and new to the sport.
December 15th, 2021 at 1:07 AM ^
Media hype. Nobody knows those players outside of the Michigan fanbase. But everybody knows Chase Young, Myles Garett and the Bosas. You don't need to work hard when you have a star player at the position in the NFL. Aidan could get to that level though.
December 15th, 2021 at 5:49 AM ^
It’s not really “hard work” to point out to a recruit the players you’ve gotten drafted, their draft position, where they play, and what they’re doing in the pros. Whether the kid knows who they are initially or not, that’s a pretty simple part of a recruiting pitch.
Not to mention, any recruit should probably do a little research on how the team has used his position and how those players have fared after college.
December 15th, 2021 at 8:30 AM ^
I've kinda accepted that recruiting defies logic and that "(school) is great at developing (position) and putting them in NFL" only applies sometimes to some schools
December 15th, 2021 at 12:47 AM ^
Nothing brings out the best, most rational parts of the fan base like recruiting season! Some folks on here went from I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS TEAM AND AM THE MOST LOYAL FAN EVER MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE HERE to predicting the demise of the program based on the decisions of 17/18 year olds. If you can’t enjoy this time as a Michigan fan, what on earth are you doing with your life? Go Blue. Beat Georgia. Lighten the fuck up, Francis[es].
December 15th, 2021 at 4:11 AM ^
I feel like i should start a rant about how i believed in this recruiting class all along and if anyone criticized it they are fair weather fans. But then post it in every thread. You Catch what I am saying?
December 15th, 2021 at 9:51 AM ^
Uh, I really don’t catch what you’re saying.
December 15th, 2021 at 7:28 AM ^
I demand an apology for your lack of faith...THE SKY IS FALLING!
December 15th, 2021 at 12:55 AM ^
The amount of bag Texas is throwing around is incredible. I don’t blame them, they have a mediocre coach who makes his players sing minstrel songs so you gotta do what you gotta do
December 15th, 2021 at 1:19 AM ^
When did Sam say Walker is gone to Kentucky? I listened to his podcast and he has a lot of positives for Michigan.
December 15th, 2021 at 2:03 AM ^
I think this is literally within the past couple of hours
December 15th, 2021 at 1:21 AM ^
Texas boosters must be looking at the team A&M is buying and getting a little jealous. At least they are taking a 3 star from us. Looks like OSU is going to lose their top CB recruit to Texas. It must suck to be a Buckeye.
December 15th, 2021 at 4:13 AM ^
If Texas starting owning OSU for Texas recruits that would be a huge plus for us.
December 15th, 2021 at 5:24 AM ^
Sad news about Burke. Had visions of Hutchinson v 2.0
December 15th, 2021 at 7:21 AM ^
Goodwin is now a high confidence CB to MSU. So much for the twin towers.
December 15th, 2021 at 7:40 AM ^
Was really hoping he and Walker would join Michigan. That would have been a good win.
December 15th, 2021 at 8:33 AM ^
The CB is from an MSU insider who are notorious slappies. Unless it's from a reliable person, then I wouldn't put too much stock in it. Probably going to UK
December 15th, 2021 at 8:57 AM ^
Umm He’s actually very accurate so him having Goodwin to msu is actually very troubling..
December 15th, 2021 at 7:45 AM ^
Sam's a good radio personality.
December 15th, 2021 at 7:55 AM ^
Sabb Orji sounds good to me!
December 15th, 2021 at 8:27 AM ^
People are saying Sabb to UGA but crystal balls don't support that and have provided no evidence
