Hello: 2022 DE Ethan Burke
December 1st, 2021 at 3:37 PM ^
He’s a player that has blown up due to his senior tape. 6’7 225lb, out of Wstlake, TX. The staff is selling him on becoming a Hutchinson type prospect. Obviously he is much more raw than Hutchinson and will take longer to develop. I think the staff realized that Josephs was slipping away to Tennessee and identified another Edge targeted and quickly brought him in the fold.
Of note, Burke was committed to play for Maryland Lacrosse before blowing up in football and landing a bunch of offers from the likes of Utah, Baylor, and obviously Michigan. 2nd player in this class that’s following that path after Jimmy Rolder.
He has a rating of 87 on 247 (mid 3 star), while On3 put him at a 90 (low 4 star)
Edit: A little more context to Burkes sudden rise in rakings from 247
Burke broke his collarbone right before the football season as a junior at the Under Armour All-American lacrosse game. He came back late in the season and contributed in the state championship. He blossomed as a senior fully healthy, where he has 49 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and nine sacks.

He’s a player that has blown up
This feels like a common theme

Hard to scout during a pandemic
December 1st, 2021 at 3:55 PM ^
I would love for him to play lacrosse in the spring too, but the prior broken collarbone probably has him spooked from any non-essential football activities.
December 1st, 2021 at 5:26 PM ^
I am not a doc but I think if a collarbone properly heals you are no more likely to break it in the future.
December 1st, 2021 at 6:38 PM ^
That slight rumble you’re feeling is Charles Rogers rolling over.
(May he rest in peace.)

This is great, because it means we’re building ties to the HS football hotbed that is Austin. Westlake has produced Drew Brees, Nick Foles, Sam Ehlinger, and many others. Its arch rival, Lake Travis HS, produced Baker Mayfield, Garrett Wilson, and many others also. OSU in particular does well in central Texas.

If our staff thinks he's a promising edge rusher, I believe them. Welcome, Ethan!
December 1st, 2021 at 3:38 PM ^
He saw Hutch and Ojabo and thought, "That looks fun."
December 1st, 2021 at 3:39 PM ^
Welcome, young man!

Michigan: Sack U

His high school is playing in the state championship. He plays against top talent.
December 1st, 2021 at 4:07 PM ^
Drew Brees played at Westlake, iirc.
December 1st, 2021 at 3:42 PM ^
Welcome, Mr Burke, to (summoning my best James Earl Jones voice imitation)..."The best University in the World!"
December 1st, 2021 at 3:55 PM ^
Luckily for you, you're in front of a friendly* crowd on the internet, which means we, as your adoring audience, hear your impression of James Earl Jones as if James Earl Jones did it himself.
*Mostly. Any boos you hear are probably coming from LSAClassOf2000.

Welcome Ethan! Go Blue
December 1st, 2021 at 3:45 PM ^
A great week keeps getting better. If we stick to the McDonald Defense model for the next few years, then we have another solid player to add to the rotation at this key position.
December 1st, 2021 at 3:45 PM ^
I live in Austin, surprised but glad we're sending a local product up north. Westlake HS is a short drive away
December 1st, 2021 at 3:48 PM ^
He's obviously a long-term developmental type but it's easy to see why the coaching staff likes his potential once his body fills out.

A new best friend for Ben Herbert

Westlake is a great school to make some in-roads at. High ceiling kid, nice pickup for us.
December 1st, 2021 at 3:49 PM ^
Welcome!
December 1st, 2021 at 3:50 PM ^
He heard Brando's enthusiastic "Sack Time!" and wanted in on that action.....
don't break the news to him that not only will Brando not be doing games after this season, but Keith Jackson won't either.
December 1st, 2021 at 3:51 PM ^
His brother from another mother approves
December 1st, 2021 at 4:14 PM ^
Hopefully no clean blocks on Ethan!
December 1st, 2021 at 5:39 PM ^
too soon
December 1st, 2021 at 3:52 PM ^
Can he/will he also play lacrosse?
December 1st, 2021 at 3:54 PM ^
Welcome Ethan, way to GoBlue!

Another recruiting nugget:
The crystal balls have flipped from MSU to Michigan for 3* 2023 OL Dylan Senda (from Dearborn-Divine Child). Senda visited for the Michigan-OSU game this weekend and announced his Top 4 of Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, and Northwestern. Senda will be announcing his decision on December 20th, so we won't have to wait long for this one. On the field, Senda is an interior OL that projects to center most likely.
December 1st, 2021 at 4:01 PM ^
Senda him our way…!
/I’ll see myself out, thx
December 1st, 2021 at 5:51 PM ^
Additional nugget:
Wiltfong just put in a crystal ball for 2023 Top 100 linebacker Raylen Wilson to commit to Michigan. Wilson is from Tallahassee and is a George Helow target. Wilson is an athletic linebacker with offers from everywhere: UGA, Bama, OSU, Clemson, LSU, ND, PSU, TAMU, USC, UF, FSU, etc. This would be a huge pickup.
Edit: Wilson will be announcing his decision on December 8th from a Top 2 of Michigan and Georgia.
December 1st, 2021 at 6:22 PM ^
Has he visited? Because a Florida kid who hasn't visited yet, well.........
December 1st, 2021 at 6:30 PM ^
Yes, he visited for the Northwestern game.
December 1st, 2021 at 3:56 PM ^
Congratulations Ethan ! Great news! Very well done. Go Blue!
December 1st, 2021 at 3:57 PM ^
Offers from army and Air Force. He is a bright kid with the right frame. The future is looking bright!
December 1st, 2021 at 3:59 PM ^
Nice. Welcome to Michigan family.
December 1st, 2021 at 4:00 PM ^
If he plays lacrosse that indicates a high level of athleticism/agility. Tall and not that heavy--he will need to pack on some muscle for DE.
December 1st, 2021 at 4:00 PM ^
I watched this kid's tape a while back when we first offered and was a huge fan. He's basically a "build a DE" at this point. Has great athleticism, speed, get-off, and has some nice pass rush moves, but definitely need to put on like 30+ pounds. Great pick up. I'd recommend the star watchers watch his Hudl tape before freaking out
December 1st, 2021 at 4:14 PM ^
Yea I think my biggest question is whether him playing lacrosse prevents him from putting on that weight or developing. Usually with these 2 sport guys, they drop the 2nd sport fairly quickly, but that's what I'll be watching out for.
December 1st, 2021 at 5:27 PM ^
Since Lacrosse prioritizes speed and agility and doesn't generally have you trying to run through 300 pound people, yes he probably had stayed light for lacrosse.
If he wants to develop into a football star at the college level he will need to pack on some weight/muscle.
December 1st, 2021 at 5:45 PM ^
Agreed. Supposedly he has the green light to play lacrosse at Michigan. I don't see how he can do that and play DE at the proper weight
December 1st, 2021 at 6:20 PM ^
Well, we're screwed. No one has ever put on weight inside the football program!
December 1st, 2021 at 4:43 PM ^
Worked with young Mr. Ojabo.
December 1st, 2021 at 4:01 PM ^
Lacrosse feels like a great complementary sport for an edge. An All-American athlete is hardly a flier by the coaches.
December 1st, 2021 at 4:03 PM ^
Put 100 pounds on this puppy and have him clog up the mf center.
December 1st, 2021 at 4:29 PM ^
A 6'7" nose tackle? Good luck with that.
December 1st, 2021 at 5:46 PM ^
You generally don’t want a 6’7” nose tackle…
December 1st, 2021 at 7:53 PM ^
How's this guy doing? https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4381558/jordan-davis
December 2nd, 2021 at 3:41 AM ^
I'm guessing they are slightly different body types. Davis was listed as 330 on his recruiting profile, Burke is skinny as a rail right now. Try to put him at DT and I think you are going to get more Pat Massey than Jordan Davis.
December 1st, 2021 at 4:13 PM ^
6'7" skinny kid who needs to grow into his body a bit.
So... that DE from Iowa who played opposite Epenesa a few years ago?
