Allen Trieu has Kenneth Grant to M at a level 6
Kenneth Grant is very big, which you probably already knew,
and he can play.
247 recently moved him up to a 4 Star:
....Grant looked like he got in better shape.... It also showed up in the shot put where he went from 50-feet to 57. ....he is playing both ways and actually looked good on offense....
We still think there is room to grow, develop and improve with Grant....
With that, Grant joins the four stars.

Is this kid going Blue?
September 22nd, 2021 at 5:56 AM ^
Something strange about playing both ways . . . and shot put used in the same sentence.
Well structured post as usual EC.
Go Blue Big Kenneth!

Are his Wisco and OSU offers committable? Sign me up!
September 22nd, 2021 at 7:54 AM ^
Wisconsin yes. OSU no. I think OSU has him lower on their DL list and would only take him if their other options don’t pan out. However they’re also the ones who have been telling Grant to wait to commit because he should see how Michigan is performing on the field and throwing questions of stability of Michigan’s coaching staff to Grant. So they want him enough that they also don’t want him to commit and not be an option in the future either

In almost any other year over the past decade this would have been a good negative recruiting tactic by OSU.
Given the uncertainty in their own house regarding their d coordinator, scheme, and recent performance, this may not be the best tactic. At least for the time being, the Macdonald hire has given UM stability here and may work in our advantage.
That said, if I’ve learned anything over the past 20 years, Things always fall into place for OSU and we at UM can’t have nice things.

Things are changing....
Their D is falling apart... Coombs just got demoted... won't go well.
Michigan is back to being Michigan, and hip again to play here.
We will beat them this year.
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:55 AM ^
The Coombs being demoted thing, in my mind, seems like it could be a misstep made by a green head coach that may backfire greatly.
The optics make it appear as a panic move by an inexperienced head coach that not only threw an assistant coach completely under the bus, but also promoted a coach that also does not have any experience coordinating defenses.. after two games.
That's not very good leadership, and expresses to the rest of the coaches that if you make Ryan Day feel even a little discomfort, he will panic and potentially replace your role with someone else on staff. The ripple effect that can have on team and coaching morale and comradery will be something to monitor.

On top of that, Kenneth Grant's recruiter and what-would-be his position coach at OSU is a nearly 70-year-old Larry Johnson. Let's talk about stability when the guy could retire at any time.
I would not be surprised at all to see a shake-up of the entire OSU defensive staff after this season and Johnson just ends up hanging it up.
September 22nd, 2021 at 9:44 AM ^
I wouldn't bet against Larry Walker but doesn't OSU play more of a 4-3? Grant seems like a fit for nose as long as he doesn't get taller.
If he's been told to wait to see how UM plays, so far so good. Smith and Whittley have been among the nicest surprises this year and they will need to be replaced.
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:11 AM ^
Who is Larry Walker and what does OSU playing a 4-3 have to do with anything? Big DTs are a fit in every (non-Don Brown) scheme. They’re just a necessity in a 3-4/5-2
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:24 AM ^
Larry Walker - MLB Hall of Famer, has coached the Canadian National Team, career .313 batting average
Larry Johnson - OSU DL coach, old

So instead of just editing your original post, you made a new one… so again, what does OSU playing a 4-3 have to do with anything? Are you assuming big DTs aren’t a fit for 4-3 defenses? Big DTs fit in 3 man and 4 man fronts. The difference is a 3 man front REQUIRES big DTs.
September 22nd, 2021 at 3:31 PM ^
I hit edit and it made a reply and I don't want to try again in case the defect repeats itself. I'd rather have a double post than a triple. Sorry if it offends you.
The deference is body type. Why does Jordan Whittley play nose and Chris Hinton tackle? They aren't interchangeable.
When you are 335 you more suited for nose. It's a more specialized body type and since Smith and Whittley are soon to depart the chance of early playing time is greater than on a 4-3 team with 2 tackles.

If the coaches like him, I do. I trust them.
Amazing what a little winning can do

If there is one thing I've noticed since returning to Mgoblog, it's that EC really enjoys orange boxes.
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:37 AM ^
Actually no. I used to use red all the time. Easier to locate with the eye. But no red. So, no red.
September 22nd, 2021 at 12:16 PM ^
Red = Bad
September 22nd, 2021 at 12:54 PM ^
As a Finance guy who has created and worked on thousands of Excel workbooks - can definitively tell you that red is never good...

He is "only" a high 3*** but the reports of this young man from the Ohio State camp were glowing. OSU, of course, are in on all the 5***** and high 4**** prospects so he is not committable to them at this time. This is where Michigan needs to make recruiting hay and coach these kids up to catch those high-flying guys.
I am not current on Indiana football but Merrillville has long been a good football school.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:26 AM ^
I lived in Merrillville for a while - it has been nice to see UM pulling guys from there (and nearby places like Crown Point) for various sports. Most of the local fandom is Purdue/ND as a baseline.
September 22nd, 2021 at 7:16 AM ^
And look at that smile! Who wouldn't want that kid on their team.
September 22nd, 2021 at 7:43 AM ^
He’s got those Stefan Humphries eyes.
September 22nd, 2021 at 8:06 AM ^
+1 for Stefan Humphries. He is my hero. AFAIK, only sports athlete Sports Illustrated featured where they included a picture of his grade transcript. Almost all A's in Engineering School. To do that, and play for Bo is quite impressive.

I like that block M behind him!

Upvoted because i forgot how much I liked this song back when it came out.
September 22nd, 2021 at 9:42 AM ^
Great song. Great album. The OG REM fans may not like it, but they’re mostly nerdy hipster losers so f*** them.
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:04 AM ^
False. I'm not a loser or a hipster. I like this song but I don't like the album.
September 22nd, 2021 at 8:24 AM ^
Alright, here comes my weird comment of the day....he looks to nice.
Like Gabe Watson nice. You have to play mean. Get mean Grant!
September 22nd, 2021 at 9:11 AM ^
I was just thinking: He looks like one of those super nice, intelligent, soft spoken kids that turns into a man-eating berserker with his helmet on. Sort of like Kevin Mawae.
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:43 PM ^
Do you know who this is?
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:35 PM ^
That's Jonathan Garvey. He was Mr. Ingall's friend. He was considered a "fearsome" guy.
September 22nd, 2021 at 3:30 PM ^
lol. Ok, you're right. But what else was he?
September 22nd, 2021 at 9:21 PM ^
The fearsome reference was a clue. He was part of the Rams' Fearsome Foursome.
September 22nd, 2021 at 6:15 PM ^
The original “… looks like one of those super nice, intelligent, soft spoken kids that turns into a man-eating berserker with his helmet on…” , Merlin Olsen

So you saw him play. I watched him when I was a little kid. I really was afraid of him. He seemed like a mad man. No one played like that, not even Ray Nitschke or Dick Butkus. Then after he retired he started doing flower commercials. I had to reassess some things.

That man blocked a punt for a TD?
September 22nd, 2021 at 9:17 AM ^
If you want a good chuckle, watch the video highlights in the post. There is one instance where he rips the ball from the running back and starts rumbling towards the end zone. The only one that can stop him is a small quarterback who has the angle. Grant literally brushes him off like a fly on his shoulder and sends him flying.

I was wondering what EC was up to once UCLA lost, and we were no longer receiving weekly Zach Charbonnet updates.
September 24th, 2021 at 2:17 AM ^
UCLA losing had nothing to do with it. I could have made a post on Charbonnet's 2 fantastic TDs in the game.
September 22nd, 2021 at 9:37 AM ^
6-4 335 blocking punts?
yes please
September 22nd, 2021 at 9:48 AM ^
and returning said blocked punts for touchdowns!
September 22nd, 2021 at 9:52 AM ^
Who needs Khaleke Hudson?
September 22nd, 2021 at 9:48 AM ^
Gotta like a big young man and DL who can block punts too.
September 22nd, 2021 at 9:59 AM ^
Wingding at 7!!!!
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:04 AM ^
The man already plays in front of the block M. Just change your color scheme and come on up to Ann Arbor
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:16 AM ^
My budding hope for the future will continue to grow as our rebuild of the DL matches up to what's been done with OL recruiting and coaching over the last few years. Trenches, baby. Trenches.
