Mike Hart offered RB coach job at Michigan
Lots of smoke to this, so I reached out just now and was told Mike Hart has been offered the RB coach job at Michigan, no word on whether or not he's accepting the job. Makes a lot of sense why JayBaugh is now ST coach.
Pretty sure UMBIG11 and others may have broke this news, but I was able to confirm the rumors just now.
Cheers

This one needs to stay though even though it's 2nd. The first one is a speculative post based on a comment UMBig11 made in another thread. This is confirmation that's it's true (if you believe the OP and I definitely believe the OP).
Ghost has solid sources. If he says it, I believe it.

I believe it’s true. Now let’s close the deal and bring Hart home. Make him run game coordinator also
January 13th, 2021 at 9:23 AM ^
GOJ, if i am correct that means no experienced CO-OC, than right, RB coach was the only open position on offense.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:28 AM ^
I was wondering the same. Does this mean the Moorhead ship has sailed? It seems like he would have some say in the choice of offensive assistants if he were hired.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:35 AM ^
Sam has said on multiple occasions that Moorhead was never mentioned, offered or even considered. That was an Mgoblog rumor.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:37 AM ^
What about Tom Herman? Has anyone reputable heard/said anything there? Or is that similar speculation/rumor/innuendo?
Seemed to be a lot of fan excitement for Moorhead; I wonder what it would be like for Herman.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:11 AM ^
Herman will end up at Alabama, like everyone else
January 13th, 2021 at 9:45 AM ^
It was not an MGOBLOG rumor, not happening from what I hear, but far from a rumor.
Cheers
January 13th, 2021 at 11:43 AM ^
Damn. I really wanted Moorehead.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:03 PM ^
What guy doesn't??
January 13th, 2021 at 1:15 PM ^
Nicely played. Upvote
January 13th, 2021 at 1:26 PM ^
Better question is, do you want Moorhead or Mike Hunt?
January 13th, 2021 at 1:49 PM ^
Depends, Oscar. Tell me more about your second option.
January 13th, 2021 at 3:14 PM ^
"That" Mike Hunt?
January 13th, 2021 at 12:17 PM ^
I’d love to see Mike Hart on the sideline, and if he can teach his innate ability to grind out yards after contact then great. Otherwise, I’ve been wholly unimpressed with the coordinator search thus far. This after reportedly “opening up the purse strings” to pay for better candidates. We haven’t seen any results from this.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:27 PM ^
Correct. It was not a Mgoblog rumor. Sam has been wrong before.
January 13th, 2021 at 1:26 PM ^
I'm sure that I am in the minority here, but I'm curious as to why there was so much excitement for Moorehead, other than experience at the position. He's been the OC/HC of a top 25 FBS Offense exactly twice during his 10 years at either of those positions. His 2017 Offense at PSU was prolific and his 2016 Offense was very good (outside of a 10pt showing in AA). Outside of that, his teams at Miss St ranked top-100ish and Oregon slipped inside the top 50 this year (albeit a very shortened season for them).
What am I missing?
January 13th, 2021 at 12:39 PM ^
When and where did he say that?
January 13th, 2021 at 9:43 AM ^
I think more likely it means the Moorhead ship never existed. It was just an illusion created by the mist coming off the water.
Sam Webb said that he was never able to confirm that there was any truth to the rumors that Michigan was trying to get Moorhead.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:35 AM ^
Reconciling those comments and GOJ's comment re: Moorhead, i think it's safe to say that Moorhead was never under serious consideration and that there was no attempt to woo him. He probably made some list(s), was discussed (as any good due diligence would dictate), and was dropped from serious consideration.
Both Sam Webb's comments and GOJ's comments can be true.

Jim Harbaugh as QB Coach and Jay to Special Teams means Hart could be RB coach and I think there would still be a spot for another offensive coach.
Generally speaking, coordinators are a little different than Head Coaches when it comes to picking assistants and those working underneath them. Given the transient nature not only of coaches but of position titles, it wouldn’t be uncommon for an OC to be hired with most/all of the rest of the staff in place.
Thinking back, Gattis didn’t bring/hire any assistants with him, did he? Those were all handled by the HC IIRC.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:32 AM ^
Moorhead could collaborate with Jim for QB coach and also be Co-OC.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:45 AM ^
I think we'd have a spot open based on what i've drawn up below. Note that everything below is speculative and not to be taken as inside info or confirmation on anything. You get 11 coaches including your HC, i think lol. I've thrown Macdonald in the Safety spot for now.
QB - Jim Harbaugh
RB - Hart
WR - Gattis
TE - Moore
OL - Warinner
ST - Jay Harbaugh
DL - Nua
LB - BJM
S - Macdonald
CB - OPEN
???? - OPEN

I do not like the idea of Jim coaching the QB's. I don't believe he is committed to speed in space and our offense has been chaotic as a result. Jim as QB coach just doubles down on the schizophrenia.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:36 AM ^
Seems like there are a lot of ways Harbaugh coaching QBs could go badly. Every possibility from personality traits to not being able to coach the game as it exists in college today.
I hope Harbaugh is a fantastic QB coach but it’s been a long time since anyone has called him that and both he and the game have changed, seemingly a lot.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:25 AM ^
The schemes have changed but the mechanics of throwing and how to progress through your reads have not changed.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:56 PM ^
I question this. If Gattis likes to scheme quick slants deep in's etc which uses the middle of the field and Jim things routes to the sidelines are more safe to avoid interceptions then you could easily have a conflict on what the offense is trying to do vs. what the QB is being drilled to do.
January 13th, 2021 at 1:59 PM ^
I am no Harbaugh apologist but the number of people on this site that actually speak and act as if Harbaugh cannot coach is comedic. He has a deep and intimate knowledge of the QB position. He has been coaching for quite a few years. I'd guess he could take the offenses requirements and tendencies and translate that to the QB responsibilities and requisite skills. Now, can he teach it well enough to be successful? Well I think we will all have a good idea this time next year, if not sooner...
January 13th, 2021 at 10:57 AM ^
Then what do you think he should coach? If anything, coaching QBs probably means he's less involved in game planning and play calling since he doesn't have a position now. I'm in favor of the move.
January 13th, 2021 at 2:00 PM ^
Wasn't it Harbaugh that benched Alex Smith in favor of Kaepernick? This was before the new NFL trend of dual threat QBs.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:01 PM ^
Kind of. Smith got injured and Kaep played well in his place, so when Smith was cleared to play Harbaugh just stick with Kaepernick. You could argue he was forced into that decision initially.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:25 AM ^
Everything on the defense should be open. DL stinks as does the DL recruiting and the LBs played like crap. If anything, Nua has to go
January 13th, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
Assuming the only coach to leave on offense is McDaniels, it allows Michigan to bring in one coach. Harbaugh and Jay switching to other duties doesnt change the cap on assistants.
Only thing that could happen is if the team cuts Shoop AND Zordich loose, and brings in a “secondaries” coach to coach both corners and safeties. Which allows another coach to be brought in. But it would be really weird to see that many offensive coaches and so few defensive guys.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:46 AM ^
Depends on how the new DC arranges things, too. Plenty of schools do LBs with one coach and GA/analyst support, some still do DBs that way.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:03 AM ^
We already have Gattis (and Harbaugh.)
January 13th, 2021 at 9:42 AM ^
Clearly the coaching staff checks Mgoblog and saw that the board was clamoring for this, good job guys!
January 13th, 2021 at 9:42 AM ^
Why would Hart leave a better program situation at Indiana for a lateral move to a leaking ship here? I think the offer is highly possible, I just don't know why he'd accept.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:46 AM ^
"Coach turns down job at Michigan, his alma mater, to stay at Indiana" is not a take that would ever make sense, even in 2021.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:50 AM ^
Right on, HERPS!
{Pauses, frowns, disinfects phone and hands}
January 13th, 2021 at 11:28 AM ^
What if it's just herpes simplex and the meds are just Anbesol?
January 13th, 2021 at 1:47 PM ^
Hart once said about JH, "He’s not a Michigan man. I wish he’d never played here.”
With all the emotions involved it's completely plausible he turns down the job. Egomaniacs have long memories.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:47 AM ^
Damn - BPONE really did double down on football after leaving hoops.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:47 AM ^
Because, “This is Michigan, for Gods sake.”
Indiana was a better program situation this year. Will it be next year? Possibly/probably. Three years from now?
I know we’re all angry and pissed off about this past season, but come on. How badly would a poster get roasted here if UM somehow beat OSU this November and fans said Michigan was now in a better program situation?
January 13th, 2021 at 9:56 AM ^
So why wouldn't he wait a year to see if Harbaugh gets things back on track and solidifies his status here. Coming over to jump on a sinking ship and be out on your ass right next to Harbaugh in a year doesn't seem terribly far-sighted either.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:08 AM ^
You're really going fishing with this one, aren't you?
January 13th, 2021 at 10:52 AM ^
Wait, is this really Mike Hart asking for advice for what to do?
January 13th, 2021 at 12:19 PM ^
Because RB coach position will have already been filled. Duh.
January 13th, 2021 at 1:01 PM ^
Maybe he figures if he comes on board now, he is doing a year long job interview in case Harbaugh gets fired.
January 13th, 2021 at 3:29 PM ^
You need to Grow. The. Fuck. Up.
