Warde Manuel appears open to loosening rules for OSU
December 8th, 2020 at 6:06 PM ^
I suppose it’s better than us loosening our buttholes for them.
December 8th, 2020 at 8:57 PM ^
Again.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:07 PM ^
I’m getting tired of this ass clown
December 8th, 2020 at 6:48 PM ^
Ohio would try to screw us and has before. No mercy for those buttholes.
December 8th, 2020 at 7:20 PM ^
I don't think so. The majority of fanbase are buttholes but the higher ups respect the rivalry and want us stronger than the others. The rivalry goes to shit when one team sucks. And soon a SEC rivlary will be the premier one unless we get back to prominence.
December 8th, 2020 at 7:27 PM ^
2016, 2004, 1973. Those guys do not respect Michigan enough to pass up a chance to screw us. I know this is not the point of the OP, just reminding that if Michigan is ever good again it will be in spite of Ohio State's best efforts to ruin us.

First the business about delaying a Harbaugh announcement and now this (saying the "rules don't matter since it was a few months ago" and basically screwing Indiana over because they're not a CFP darling).
I expected better from Warde.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:19 PM ^
I'm not sure what else Warde can say here.
Can you imagine the shitstorm that would result if Michigan cancels their game with OSU and on the same day Warde comes out and says that OSU should not get to play in the title game because of it?
December 8th, 2020 at 6:32 PM ^
Warde could say ‘we agreed upon rules during this unprecedented time’. Or just say ‘The BIG will have to look at this more as OSU is a great team’. This outwardly public advocacy of OSU is nauseating though.
Instead he sounds like he’s guilty of something.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:57 PM ^
Or, he could say nothing. Maybe “I haven’t thought about this issue”.
December 8th, 2020 at 8:13 PM ^
The outside world thinks they canceled this game to screw OSU...if he comes out and then says OSU shouldn’t be in the title game, it adds to the conspiracy theory. He played this right. I doubt the B1G goes back on its rule. OSU will play a ranked Iowa team next week and the committee either votes them in or not
December 8th, 2020 at 6:08 PM ^
I mean it is the fair thing to do. They are the top team in the big ten by far. FUCK OHIO tho!
December 8th, 2020 at 6:46 PM ^
It’s the right thing to do and exactly what we’d want in their place, IMO. Indiana had their chance and lost head to head.
December 8th, 2020 at 7:23 PM ^
Yeah, I mean it sucks, but at the end of the day, if the roles were reversed, we'd ask for the same thing.
The B1G is a conference, and ultimately, they are looking out for what's in the best interests of the conference... While i know that's a bitter pill to swallow, as the conference hasn't exactly jumped to Michigan's defense in the past...
December 8th, 2020 at 8:46 PM ^
Indiana has a better record, and more games means they did a better job overall of keeping the team healthy. I don't think it's fair to Indiana to change the rules so OSU can get even more favors.
December 8th, 2020 at 9:32 PM ^
How does Indiana have a better record when they lost to Ohio State? Ohio State is undefeated and is the best team in the conference, thats not really debatable.
Really, who gives a shit if they play or don't. Its not Michigan so I just dont care
December 8th, 2020 at 9:52 PM ^
Indiana just shut down for COVID outbreak...so there goes the "better job overall of keeping the team healthy" idea.
Can't hate OSU anymore than I do. But they beat Indiana head-to-head when Penix WAS playing. we all know who the better team is. Having someone else represent the East would make that B1G Ten Title a joke.
And I still value a B1G Ten Title.....would be nice to win one again!
December 8th, 2020 at 6:08 PM ^
WTF. Why go out of your way to help OSU??? I haven't been on the Fire Warde bandwagon...until now.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:40 PM ^
Hard to imagine something dumber to fire Warde over than this.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:12 PM ^
This is a money grab for the league. Michigan, like the rest of the league, gets a small cut if a league member gets a CFP birth. That's all this is. Terrible look, given the current situation the football program is in, but I am assuming that is what this comment is related to.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:29 PM ^
It's 100% a money grab. Every department lost revenues due to COVID.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:16 PM ^
man.. that's an all-timer rough press conference for an athletic director
December 8th, 2020 at 6:17 PM ^
I don't think anyone thinks that Ohio State isn't deserving. The point is that they already made rules before the season about this topic and they wouldn't change it to get Indiana into the BTCG if the shoe was on the other foot.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:23 PM ^
Yes they would. You can't have an undefeated division champ sitting out, even if it is Indiana.
The Big 10 has made many dumb decisions as a conference but sticking to a rule that didn't make sense in the first place, is just too stupid, even for the big 10.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:36 PM ^
No one was publicly advocating for Wisconsin to make the big ten championship game when they missed the Nebraska and Purdue games and were in the AP Top 10. Big ten rules exist to make Ohio State fans happy.
December 8th, 2020 at 7:18 PM ^
Nobody was publicly advocating for Wisconsin because the last time they were #10 and undefeated was week two. There was no need to even contemplate the scenario and you know it. They lost their next two games and are third in their division.
Your argument is emotional, not rational.
December 8th, 2020 at 7:22 PM ^
OSU isn’t a division champ. They’ve only played 5 out of 8 games. If they actually were a division champ this wouldn’t be an issue.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:24 PM ^
If the shoe was on the other foot and Indiana had beaten Ohio State and was undefeated but only had 5 games? Why wouldn’t Warde say the same thing?
December 8th, 2020 at 6:57 PM ^
I think OSU isn't deserving. They could've played Illinois but chose not to. Now they are short of 6 games. The rules they agreed to say they aren't deserving.
To me this is completely ad hoc bullshit that calls into question whether anyone involved in the B1G has any business in leadership positions. People shouldn't be affected by decisions they made months ago?? What happened to taking responsibility for your actions?
December 8th, 2020 at 7:25 PM ^
You can say the same thing about Michigan though. You can argue that Michigan could play but chose not to and OSU was punished.
OSU didn't cancel Maryland either. Same thing.
If the Big10 leaves the #4 (undefeated) team out of the Championship game, recruits for all teams will start questioning how committed the conference is and it rightfully so. Other conferences are playing 10+ games because they started on time and built-in open weeks.
The Big10 just can't afford to look any dumber than it already does.
December 8th, 2020 at 7:49 PM ^
You can't say the same thing about Michigan, because Michigan isn't short of 6 games and asking for a rule change.
December 8th, 2020 at 11:00 PM ^
actually you can’t say the same thing about Michigan because they’re about 4,000 miles away from the possibility of even contemplating the idea that the big ten has a conference title game that they might get to play in one day.
December 9th, 2020 at 2:44 PM ^
I don't understand why mods let other fans come on and troll the board, so long as the fans have been signed up for a long time. Shouldn't you on 11 Warriors doing something?
December 9th, 2020 at 8:25 AM ^
M has a LOT of infected players so no, they couldn't really play if they wanted. They are well above the threshold B1G has set for canceling the game.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:19 PM ^
Even if we beat OSU, they still win the division over Indiana. There is no logical reason to keep OSU out. It just makes the conference look worse than it already does.
Let OSU schedule an OOC game or change the rule. It's pointless to punish any team with arbitrary rules in a season this screwed up.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:20 PM ^
Integrity?
December 8th, 2020 at 6:28 PM ^
Ya know...it's too damn bad Cincinnati has COVID issues right now. THAT would have been a fun game to see -- and it would have served as almost a play-in game to the playoffs, too.
December 8th, 2020 at 7:34 PM ^
Why do you say it's an "arbitrary" rule? Wasn't the point to ensure that the teams that made the championship game had a substantial enough body of work to justify being there?
The people that complain about *where* that line is drawn give no justification about where that line *should* have been drawn. A six game minimum is just as reasonable as a five or seven game minimum - the point is that the line *was* drawn and was agreed by all parties at the outset. It shouldn't be changed just because it didn't give the expected result.
December 8th, 2020 at 8:56 PM ^
"It's pointless to punish any team with arbitrary rules in a season this screwed up."
So it's pointless to punish teams when its OSU that didn't get to the finish line. But it's okay to punish them when Indiana passed the finish line? IU did an arguably better job in managing their season than did OSU. OSU will beat Iowa to give them 6 wins, and the CFP will choose them over IU - even if IU wins the CG.
Everybody wins, no reason to fuck over IU for having a great season.
December 9th, 2020 at 9:44 AM ^
The CFP committee doesn't care about IU.
If you think they managed the season better, fine.
OSU is the obvious best team playing football, and will get into the playoffs without playing in a BIG final.
No one cares about managing a season.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:21 PM ^
I don't think we should be constrained by the rules we made to constrain ourselves. I mean, it was a over a month ago! Perfect fit for the conference.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:21 PM ^
Helps give credence to the fact that UM isn't pulling out of the game just to screw OSU. OSU is going to the CFP regardless of whether or not they play in the silly B1G "championship" game, so might as well play nice and preserve the political capital.
Also provides a little bit of moral high ground to say "Fu@k you, Herbstreit!!" once again.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:26 PM ^
Who could possibly imagine that trying to play 8 games in 8 weeks in the middle of a pandemic would possibly result in this exact scenario? Who could possibly imagine that not allowing a team to schedule an Out of Conference game if a game got cancelled would have these consequences (other than Nebraska, but they don't count).
December 8th, 2020 at 6:45 PM ^
This is why the change doesn’t make sense. They clearly foresaw cancellations taking place which is why the rule was in place. I guess what they didn’t foresee was that it was going to be OSU that would be left out. I hate the fucking big ten so much.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:26 PM ^
Rules are made to be broken/changed if it means the team that can get the B1G the most money. This is not a screw OSU reaction, this is a rules are rules. Show me in the text that this was made months ago. But if they do play in Indy, I'll shrug and move on with my life.
My dad always says," Money is the answer. What is the question."
At the end of the day for all of us
December 8th, 2020 at 6:26 PM ^
Fire Warde! It’s one thing to vote in favor of letting OSU play, which would be the reasonable thing to do, but to openly advocate for it??? MSU and OSU would kneecap Michigan if the situation was reversed. Do what is right and don’t block them, but stay quiet about it and make them squirm a bit and look like babies advocating for special treatment. No need to lobby hard if your biggest rival is bowing down.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:58 PM ^
At the very least, stay neutral, abstain on whatever vote.
December 8th, 2020 at 6:27 PM ^
If I had to imagine, the original policy was designed to make sure a 4-0 team couldn't coast to the championship and avoid the toughest games on their schedule. Say Wisconsin had another COVID outbreak and missed their NW and Indiana games - this policy would make a lot of sense. It's unfortunately clear that OSU is the best and most deserving team in the East, so this is probably the right call.
