Basketball opts out of Empire Classic
Michigan has opted out of playing in the Connecticut-based 2020 Empire Classic, according to sources, meaning the school won’t be traveling to Mohegan Sun. This MTE still has Baylor, Villanova and Boston College, which replaced NC State in the event. Scheduled for Nov. 25 and 26.

Probably a good decision. Hope it's the right one.

I was not exactly looking forward to breaking in the new starters against Nova and/or Baylor.

Last time we broke in new starters against Nova...it went pretty well for us!

I always thought we should do our version of the Philly 5 games. The directionals and UM and MSU. Add in Oakland and U of D.

Totally. The Crossroads Classic might be a more feasible model: It’s only one game on the schedule. Just have an annual doubleheader at LCA with U-M in one game and MSU in the other against a rotation of the other in-state schools.

Yeah except fuck LCA

I'd love to see that and have it played at Calihan Hall at U-D, packed with 8,000 fans at capacity and include all the local high school coaches and players and make it a Michigan basketball showcase.

How’s life in the bubble?
Putin has lived and worked since the pandemic broke out in March as if he were the “Bubble Boy” from “Seinfeld.”

Feelin' fine...

Here comes conference games only with maybe a few directional schools.

Ah maaaaan, too bad. Guess it's probably the right move, but too bad. Hoops season is gonna be even weirder than football.

Given the level of outright madness in our country, I'm all for limiting their travel. Let's not kill Phil Martelli.

Probably going to see a lot more of these opt outs as we go forward

Luckily our conference is pretty loaded, so if we can manage to perform well in the conference we should have a substantial resume. Half of me was looking forward to seeing the boys take on the talent of this tournament, the other half knows we will be plenty battle tested in conference play so it is what it is. Just excited for the season to tip off

Crap. Where the hell are they going to get any NC games at this point?

avoiding the greater nyc area, isn't a bad idea
